Field of horses
editNice article! Sounds like a good walk to try if ever I'm in Epping again.
I'm not sure "field of horses" is the best thing to use as a marker - horses, like any other livestock, get moved for various reasons. From your memory, are there any other distinguishing features (e.g. a paddock or stable)? --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:52, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- Good point. There was a sign saying something to the effect of "don't disturb the horses", which might mean they're there on a fairly long-term basis, but of course they're more likely to disappear than a bridge or a cricket club. Honestly I don't remember anything else distinctive about that field, though. There might have been a paddock but I'm not sure. I guess the alternative would be to just mention the field and omit the horses and the marker template. —Granger (talk · contribs) 18:27, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- Bloody precious horses, they live next to a motorway! I noticed there's even a photo of the field you took, and it looks very nondescript. Maybe remove the marker but still tell people to cross a field with a kissing gate where there may be horses. This can be still useful as (a) some walkers are scared of horses, sometimes with good reason and (b) dog walkers will know they need to put Fido on a lead.--ThunderingTyphoons! Disambiguator
editPer Wikivoyage:Naming conventions#Disambiguator, "places in the United Kingdom use the constituent country". If so, should this article be renamed to Oak Trail (England)? I don't know enough about the UK to judge whether this should be named "Oak Trail (England)" or "Oak Trail (Epping Forest)". --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 06:42, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- The policy is clearly in favour of Oak Trail (England), but I think that would be a strange title for a 6-mile walk through Epping Forest. So maybe Oak Trail through Epping Forest? What does Mx. Granger think?--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 10:30, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- I wasn't sure what disambiguator to use when I started the article. I think any of these titles would be fine. —Granger (talk · contribs) 11:22, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- On another note, does this article even need to have a disambiguator? The Oak Trail in Manitoba seems to only be your typical short hiking trail, and arguably it will never get its own article as it's only 1 km. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:57, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- Believe it or not, at one time it did have its own article, which was merged in 2015. I agree it's very unlikely to have one again, and there may be no need for a disambiguation page. —Granger (talk · contribs) 12:04, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- Interesting. Never thought 1 km trails would ever have had their own itinerary articles per this discussion. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:15, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- There are almost certainly other Oak Trails in the world, but until we make an article for one of those, perhaps this can just be hosted at Oak Trail, with the disambig moved to Oak Trail (disambiguation).--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 12:26, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
- Given we're all in support for this to be hosted at Oak Trail, Done. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:47, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
