Talk:Pu'er

Name
editI originally created this at Simao, but moved it here. WP says the older name has been officially restored and calls their article Pu'er City. Also, the only Chinese from the town that I ever met said Pu'er. Pashley (talk) 16:59, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm in Pu'er right now and all around I've seen it called Pu'er. I haven't yet noticed a sign or anything saying Simao but I'll keep an eye open tomorrow. — Hippietrail (talk) 16:11, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Wikivoyage is not an encyclopedia
editPlease see Wikivoyage:Goals and non-goals. This text:
- "Pu'er, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province, is located in southwest Yunnan Province, China, located between 22°02′~24°50′ north latitude and 99°09′~102°19′ east longitude, with an area of about 45,000 square kilometers. There are mainly Hani, Yi, Dai, Lahu, Wa, Brown, Yao, etc. "
does not belong in a travel guide.
- The introduction already identifies the city as being in southern Yunnan.
- The geographic coordinates are not useful to travellers. The article gas a nap to show the location.
- The area of the city should be in an encyclopedia article, not here.
- I don't know what is meant by the last sentence. It should be clarified.
Suggestion
editIt is good to add a map, I suggest adding a climate map about Pu 'er. Then you can add some photos of Pu 'er or a map of how to get to the hotel. Xjx921 (talk) 04:43, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- There is already a map, but it needs to be zoomed in much more. I suppose that requires a mapshape. I don't know what you mean about a climate map or a map of how to get to "the hotel." Which hotel? Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:09, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have split the map in two -- one for the city, and one for the region. It is not an elegant fix, but it's the best that I can do. If anyone can do better, then I will learn something new. Ground Zero (talk) 14:57, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Ground Zero @Ikan Kekek I was trying to fix the map but the GPS for the Jingmai Mountain (200km outside the city, but per descripton, with bus tours from here) is messing stuff up. What can we do? One option would be to have two maps, one zoomed out, one zoomed in, that's assuming we keep the mountain mention here? Hanyangprofessor2 (talk) 07:18, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- 200 km away is too far to be included in the city. Niagara Falls is closer to Toronto than that, but we don't list it under "Do" in the Toronto article even though there are lots if bus tours to take people there for the day. I would move it to a new section called "Further afield", and not include the geocoordinates, but instead describe its location relative to Pu'er. Another solution would to create an article for it (linked under Go next), if there is enough to say about it. Ground Zero (talk) 13:53, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Ground Zero @Xjx921 For now let's go with the simple 'further afield' idea. Should it be a listing without coordinates then? It kind of pains me to remove information (GPS) from the project without having it anywhere else
- Btw, Wikidata has Cultural Landscape of Old Tea Forests of the Jingmai Mountain in Pu’er - Wikidata ... which on Commons is Category:Jingmai Mountain - Wikimedia Commons - I am not sure if Jingmai Mountain is a separate entity from the heritage site, possibly? No en wiki or wikidata separate entries for Jingmai Mountain. Maybe a Chinese speaker could check zh wiki or wikidata entries - our listing is not connected to wikidata... @SCP-2000? - @Hanyangprofessor2 Hello, the Forest is a part of the Jingmai Mountain (Wikidata item), which is in Pu'er City (See also UNESCO page). SCP-2000 (talk) 04:58, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SCP-2000 Thanks, I fixed some Wikidata stuff and suggest a rename for the Commons category.
- As this is a UNESCO level item related to the city, I think we should mention it here, certainly. Hanyangprofessor2 (talk) 06:54, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
