Regions

edit

Unless others have a better idea, I'm planning to use the regions as defined by the ministry of tourism [1] and improvise from there if necessary. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 19:33, 25 January 2010 (EST)

Is that the right link? I don't see anything breaking the Congo into regions. I've even searched that website and couldn't find any regions (other than a list of the political regions). (WT-en) AHeneen 00:50, 26 January 2010 (EST)
Oops, here's the correct link [2] (scroll down for the regions). I've found several other sources too, and will post a bit more here tomorrow. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 01:54, 26 January 2010 (EST)

And here it is. Thoughts? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 20:51, 26 January 2010 (EST)

Kinshasa has a larger capital star than Brazzaville? --(WT-en) globe-trotter 21:13, 26 January 2010 (EST)
Well, I did put Brazzaville on top ;) I try to scale the city/capital icons to represent how big the cities actually are, and Kinshasa is just under seven times bigger than Brazzaville. Of course, it's essentially one city, but that would be hard to show here. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 23:37, 26 January 2010 (EST)
Superb map. I genuinely think we are creating something quite special and unique with these African maps. To be picky, I would definitely suggest showing equal sized stars for Brazzaville and Kinshasa. With the latter showing as larger, it implies that it is the capital of the country being mapped. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 23:51, 26 January 2010 (EST)
Point taken, but I don't want to abandon the principle of showing the size of cities on the map—showing which are towns, which are cities, and which are really huge f-ing cities is one of the more useful things we can do, I think. How is this instead? I've reduced the opacity of the city icons outside the RoC (and adjusted the size of the Brazzaville icon just a tad). --(WT-en) Peter Talk 00:43, 27 January 2010 (EST)
Ah. I did not realise that we differentiated size of capital cities. I must bear that in mind as my own maps do not. It's a good point. Yes. the opacity reduction helps. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 01:25, 27 January 2010 (EST)
Nice map. I had a hard time trying to find info about Congo's regions, but these regions look fine to me.

Regions, again

edit

13 years later, and the Congo has only 8 articles split among 6 regions. The region articles add little value. I think it makes sense to remove the region structure from the country article, and direct readers directly to the city and park articles. The region articles should be preserved so that they can be reactivated if we get more city and park articles down the road. Ground Zero (talk) 01:50, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sure, and thanks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:02, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
