Talk:San Diego International Airport
Page Banner
editHere is an idea for a page banner https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:N8664J_Southwest_Airlines_2015_Boeing_737-8H4_serial_36649_-_5350_(23791075109).jpg Someonehere12345 (talk) 16:15, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, the 7:1 dimensions required for page banners make it difficult for this to work. This is what it would look like if you want both the houses and the airplane in the picture. Ground Zero (talk) 17:26, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- ok yeah, that definitly wont work. How about this one https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alaska_tails_at_SAN_(31748327132).jpg Someonehere12345 (talk) 17:30, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- It's difficult to find good banners for airports, but that one only shows Alaska Airlines planes, and could represent any airport they fly to. How about thus one: Ground Zero (talk) 10:07, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
BTW, 12345, CropTool is what we use to adjust pictures to 7:1 dimensions for banners. It's quite easy to use. Ground Zero (talk) 10:23, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- To be fair, I'm not a fan of either (too vague), but I'd go with the second banner if I had to choose. 2, 0 and then 1. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:23, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Same for me, 0 being the currently used banner. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:13, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- (and to clarify, 0 is the default banner which I still think is better than the Southwest banner) --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 11:24, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- How about this one, it showcases the houses like the one with the southwest picture, while at the same time showing a decent amount of the plane.

- 1638 × 234 pixels is short of our 2100- × 300-pixel requirement. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 20:31, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- In case you cant tell by more being exposed in the image now, I just increased the size of the image to 2048 x 292. Someonehere12345 (talk) 22:56, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- The picture quality doesn't look good to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:02, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Here is another idea for a banner. Its the san diego air traffic control tower in front of some houses https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:San_Diego_International_Airport_tower_02_(cropped).jpg, It is 7:1 and meets the pixel requirement (4228x2848). Someonehere12345 (talk) 03:11, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Here is the image for if you dont want to click the commons link Someonehere12345 (talk) 20:36, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- in case anyone is wondering what it would look like as a page banner, I think the quality turned out pretty well. If you want to see what the image looks like as a page banner, then check out this now reverted edit I made to the grafitti wall https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Wikivoyage:Graffiti_wall&oldid=4829624 Someonehere12345 (talk) 20:43, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- I still find banner 2 somewhat better, so 2, 4, 0, 1. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:26, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, so my ranking of the banners, is 4 (the banner with the air traffic control tower),3 (The one with the American Airlines plane),2 (The port of san diego banner),0 (The default banner),1(The southwest banner). I'm not a fan of 2, Since as seen in the graffiti wall edit I made and reverted here https://en.wikivoyage.org/w/index.php?title=Wikivoyage:Graffiti_wall&oldid=4830889, It seems to me the banner primarily showcases the port of san diego, which has nothing to do with the airport. The landmark aviation building seems to be more in the side of the banner, instead of the main focus of it. Someonehere12345 (talk) 02:37, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hold it, there are more than 4 banners, including the one that's currently in use? Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:08, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- 3 is unusable, in my opinion. See my corrected ranking above. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:10, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- 3 is unusable per policy. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 06:34, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Are the rest useable per policy? Someonehere12345 (talk) 15:37, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

- 3 is unusable, in my opinion. See my corrected ranking above. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:10, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- 1 (w/ Southwest undercarriage) is best - it's brightest, well lit, and clearly airport-focused
- 0 (original banner) is okay
- 4 is mediocre quality (washed out lighting, uninteresting composition)
- 2 is washed out as well and uninteresting
- 3 (as noted) is technically inappropriate
- My vote is 1 if a replacement is to be made, otherwise keep original. The others are not improvements. Mrkstvns (talk) 18:56, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

Informative Status
editSo I recently heard of informative status. From what I see the only thing holding this article back from being a guide is the lack of a custom page banner. Do you think that upgrading this article to informative status would be appropriate? Someonehere12345 (talk) 15:43, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
Guide Status
editSo it appears for some reason the custom page banner is appearing even though it isnt in the source (probably due to Parsoid, but thats just my guess), But I did a few edits, and I think that this article is ready for guide status, what does everyone else think?
