Talk:Schliersee
Usable
editI've translated all relevant information from the German Schliersee page and therefore removed the Translate box. I also plunged forward and bumped the article up to Usable status, as I think it meets the criteria. Feel free to correct me on this point, though, if you feel differently about it. - Nice work. On a quick read by someone who does not know the region, it looks definitely Usable, even getting close to a Guide rating.
- Can people who do know the area get it to Guide soon? If so, add it at Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates; as a ski resort it should be featured in winter, so there should be enough time. Pashley (talk) 13:23, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- Good work. I was hoping to get to the nearby town of Spitzingsee sometime, which is more of the Ski resort than Schliersee. Andrewssi2 (talk) 14:17, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yep, Andrewssi2. But I don't think Spitzingsee on it's own deserves an article. There are 2(?) hotels up there, one bar/club (granted, that one's not too bad) and 2 restaurants. And the slopes of course. But is this enough for an article - I'd rather keep it within Schliersee.
- Writing this reply I just though of some points to add in the article.
- Pashley, I don't actually think this is DotM material. Even though Schliersee/Spitzingsee is a popular ski resorts with Munich residents it's not a big one and still rather OtbT. Tbp386
- German Wikivoyage suggests that there is plenty of material for Sptizingsee. Although German Wikivoyage is often heavy on the details that we do not need here, I think it is fine to follow that split between Schliersee and Spitzingsee.
- As an aside, I have been to these towns a few towns and they offer great hiking opportunities. For skiing most Munich people would however prefer to drive a bit further to better ski opportunities near on in Austria. Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:50, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- I see you went ahead and created the Spitzingsee page. I would have waited and expanded the Schliersee article to the point, where a split would have made sense, but now that it's done I guess it's okay. I hope it doesn't remain a stub for long.
- Talking of the German WV page(s), I think on the one hand they get lost in the details, and on the other hand don't provide much more information in the listings than the Yellow Pages would (de:Spitzingsee is an example here). Furthermore they tend to split up articles too often or to early and mostly along administrative borders (infamous example: de:Munich with 25 districts). Tbp386 (talk) 08:39, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- If the Spitzingsee page remains full of white space for the next few months, let's merge the paucity of information there into a section of this article. I regret that I spent only part of one day there, so I could only copy one entry that I could annotate. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:47, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- Now, after copy editing the "Do" section, I see that it's full of information about Spitzingsee, so either that should be moved to the new page, or the barely-started Spitzingsee page should be merged into this page. I'd suggest merging the small amount of information from that page into this page for now. Shall we place a merge tag on that page? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:08, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- I am not an "Everyday-Follower" (please excuse my English) in WV-en, but when reading this Discussion I fell free to write here some words, cause I am the main Author of Spitzingsee and Schliersee and also Munich in WV-de.
- I think, that User Tbp386 is well informed and is doing good work in WV-en an I personally have no Intention in making here bigger Efforts.
- Spitzingsee is, especially seen from Munich, very important for skiing, for skiing history and for mountaineering in Summer, so I think, some details are necessary in WV-de. Whether this Details are necessary in WV-en I do not know.
- The adresses (example to of the Huts) only like "Yellow Pages": well everybody is free to fill, most of the Huts near to the Sea i know by seeing (2-3 times a year), but most of them I do not know the current Situations in details (to much Tourists for me), same with the Hotels, in the Winterseason they are all crowded. What I know in Details there are the Huts above the Lake (Taubensteinhaus, Rotwandhütte): I am a Member of DAV in Munich.
- I have also read some of the other Discussions about Munich here, but sure not all, in Questions: Feel free to contact me on WV-de.--Bbb-Commons (talk) 14:52, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Ikan Kekek, I would go with "hatching" the Spitzingsee content within the Schliersee article and carve it out when it has grown to a critical mass, as I stated before. But I would like to hear Andrewssi2's oppinion on this, too.
- I guess because they are situated on different lakes I beleived that they would be better seperate. I'm not against merging at this point however, since on further examination not all the German content was not exactly ripe for translation (the excelent sewage facilities of Spitzingsee actually does sound better in a German cultural context) Andrewssi2 (talk) 09:36, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
To Guide
editI think this is almost a Guide. Something should be in the "Connect" section, and I think Spitzingsee should be merged into this article. That's it, as far as I can tell. Anything else anyone thinks the article needs before it can be a Guide? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:14, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- I added the free wifi hotspot in Karl-Haider-Straße to fill out the connect section. I'm not sure, though, if the article has enough content already for guide status (very few entries in the sleep, drink, and eat section). Tbp386 (talk) 21:28, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- Is there a lot more to add, though? Schliersee is a pretty small town, as I recall. So if the article is substantially complete in a travel guide and not Yellow Pages sense, it can be a Guide already. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:33, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- We don't want to create a complete list of facilities, of course. But a few more lisitngs for different price ranges of sleeping accomodations, some additional bars, clubs and pubs, and some restaurants would be nice (preferably from someone who actually experienced it himself). Schliersee might be small, but as a holiday resort has a lot to offer in all those categories. Tbp386 (talk) 12:02, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- It would be great to see some hiking paths listed, as this is a major draw during summer. Andrewssi2 (talk) 00:20, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- I definitely agree. I'm going to try to remember some tours (Brecherspitz, Jägerkamp, Rotwand, etc.) I did in the area, but I'll probably have to search through my photo archive to help my memory, so that's going to take some time... Tbp386 (talk) 22:01, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
