Plural

How about renaming this "Air sports" or "Aerial sports"? Using the singular, "sport", for more than one sport is very weird to Americans. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:04, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Yes, and decide where the scraps of other sports should reside, pending their expansion. This particular page will expand by outlining the skydiving disciplines once you're trained, and adding governing body websites at least where posted in English. Grahamsands (talk) 10:48, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

The other air sports are now outlined in the level above. They're just miserable scraps, eg "ballooning" was just a mention of three destinations that always seem to have balloons on their publicity material. Touting

This edit impelled me to skip through the article a little, and it seems full of touting. What are we going to do about that? In other words, what amount of description should remain? I'd suggest linking the article for the town where the skydiving company has its headquarters and not including any URLs here, with only a brief summary of services remaining here.

OK, I've taken the drastic step of moving all listings here. Let's decide what will remain before we put anything back. As per my suggestion above, I think we can mention names, with brief descriptions of services only, no URLs for specific companies, and links to the relevant local destination articles. I think the limits were misunderstood for this edit. What are your thoughts on listing for West Tennessee Skydiving, just a quick scroll down? Seems excessive. ispeedy (talk)

My thoughts are stated immediately above, and the problem is not with a single listing. To repeat: There should be no specific listings in this global article, in my opinion. Why is that "excessive"? Usual Wikivoyage guidelines are to have full, specific listings in local destination articles only, and avoiding the duplication of listings is a central facet of this site's don't tout policies. We shouldn't have individual listings of skydiving companies here, because the list would either be extremely long or it would cover just a few cities/places of the world properly. If there are some destinations that are particularly famous for skydiving (there has to be some?), let's add a Destinations section, and the individual skydiving businesses would then be listed in the destination articles where they operate. Later: the sport is re-awakening from its covid shutdown. The page as it stands is truncated: I propose adding a destination section that would do little more than link the relevant national organisations, who display lists of centres in their own country. In the background, the listings above should migrate to their base city. Any northern hemisphere club that has not re-started by Easter 2022 may be assumed to have folded, but other regions have different seasons, so that task might take a while. I generally agree, but Easter 2022 may be a little too soon as a cut-off date. As legal restrictions on business in Scotland only ended yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised if there are still restriction in place elsewhere that might make a skydiving trip unviable. I think that some clubs may still be in a "paused" state, and will restart later in the year or next year depending on their business conditions. AlasdairW (talk) 23:39, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Paragon, Strathallan and St Andrews are all flying, and in any case are described by the BPA website. Skydiving Inverness looks nowadays to be just an agency carting jumpers off to other DZs. Grahamsands (talk) 15:18, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
