Talk:Sulphur Springs

Would an admin please move Sulphur Springs (Texas) to Sulphur Springs? The move destination is a redirect, so I can't move it. Hanif Al Husaini (talk) 21:26, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Done. Does anyone know, if you are a patroller, can you move an article while deleting another? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:32, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- I in fact, did try to move it and could not as an autopatroller, if that helps. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 21:36, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Right, but that wasn't the question. Hanif is also an autopatroller. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:47, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- It was because it had a page history of 20 revisions in it until it was redirected. If I'm not mistaken, autoconfirmed users can only delete the page if it only had one revision in it, and that has to be a redirect. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:04, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Odd that an article with 20 edits has just one listing (without details), coords, and routebox. Still, when you delete the version to be replaced, always check whether there might be something worthwhile in it. Sometimes the new version was created by copy-and-paste from it, or parts of the old version merged later at some point. Here the absence of routebox in the new article broke the routebox chain (I assume it was broken since the original redirect). If the article histories overlap, they shouldn't be merged (so there'll be some pondering about what to do), but here the old article hadn't been touched since new article was created. The problems about handling history aren't something we trust patrollers to get right, that's why only administrators have the delete powers. –LPfi (talk) 10:42, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry if I did something wrong. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:10, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Easy to fix as long as it is just a deletion, so no problem (mistaken history merges, on the other hand, are often messy). However, when an admin is needed to move a page, one should always check the history. –LPfi (talk) 08:45, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
