Country sections
editDo we really intend to have information on every country, and keep the information updated? Wouldn't it suffice to tell about common and worst-case scenarios, and let the readers check their situation locally. Isn't the definite official information reasonably easy to find without our help, once somebody realises they need to check, while our link may go to an outdated page hanging around by mistake? –LPfi (talk) 10:43, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Isn't that the point of the disclaimer box at the top of the article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:42, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps. But whom are serving? Why come here to read information that is incomplete, outdated and perhaps plain wrong, instead of reading the current official info? What is the added value that we can provide? –LPfi (talk) 13:19, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Is your feeling that it would serve travellers better to delete this article and figure that anyone subject to possible military service will check these things themselves and otherwise that it's not our responsibility? Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:46, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- I am not sure. I think that an article with sections on all countries with conscriptions will get unwieldy and mostly outdated. We could aim at pointing out things that might be written between the lines or in small print at the official sources, and non-obvious consequences. Most such things are probably common to several countries and don't require country sections. On the other hand, what is here now is probably correct and might be useful, although I think few would come to Wikivoyage to find out the details for their country. –LPfi (talk) 16:55, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Can you think of some non-obvious consequences? I think the main issue would probably be for people who don't know a country they're visiting considers them a citizen and forces them to stay and do military service, but is this the right title for that kind of list? Any other non-obvious consequences you can think of? Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:27, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
