Talk:Yokohama
Rant
editI've snipped this out:
For those travelling cross-country Japan, might have noticed one big difference. The Kanto area (Tokyo, Yokohama Kawasaki, Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa and Saitama region) and the Kansai area (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Gifu, Okayama region) charge room rates completely different. '''Kanto goes PER HEAD'''. Thus most room rates are basis per head checking in. If couples it is highly advised to go with the assumption that the rates double, even for the same room. Whereas in '''Kansai''', hotel managers take the more accustomed Western style,'''charging you per ROOM''', regardless of whether alone or couple.
To as "WHY" is unknown. Street rumours say that this boils down to the ancient rivalry between the two areas (old capital vs. new capital). It is like Boston vs. NYC, England vs. France style. Myself as a foreigner, born, raised here, think the above is important as it will have agraaving difference in your budget planning when travelling throughout Japan.
These differences are actually quiet deep rooted, as even the electricity cycles are different (Tokyo / Yokohama 50 cycles; Osaka / Kyoto 60 cycles) which is apparently based on the saying that back in te Meiji era, Tokyo area brought in the first power plant from the USA (rumoured to be GE), whereas Osaka, in rivalry went to Europe to buy from there. Hence the difference.
Note also as an etiquette, that standing on escalators. Tokyo you ought to stand and line up on the left side, people passing by on right, whereas in Osaka you stand on the right side, passing by on the left! (Osaka get all to proud to say that they are much more westernized than the Tokyoiters.) "
I'm not entirely convinced it's correct (every ryokan I've ever stayed in in Kansai has charged per head), and it certainly doesn't belong under Yokohama#Sleep. (WT-en) Jpatokal 00:28, 26 November 2006 (EST)
Everywhere I've stayed in Kansai has also charged per head, for what it's worth. 61.114.9.102 20:16, 22 February 2007 (EST)

Sugiyama shrine: several ones
editAccording to the Japanese Wikipedia, there is a good number of Sugiyama shrines in Yokohama. It can be confusing for those who search for the Sugiyama shrine. - Fabimaru (talk) 21:51, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
New page banner
editA more dramatic page banner. /Yvwv (talk) 03:05, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, this is the current banner:
- I think everyone will agree that the new suggested banner is far superior to the existing one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:11, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree, so much better. Drat70 (talk) 03:16, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
Districtification
editAbout time to divide Yokohama into districts? /Yvwv (talk) 08:48, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- I'd support this. Main article is getting unwieldy. Thuegh (talk) 00:48, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
- Since you know the city, please propose specific districts and describe their boundaries. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:50, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
- I'll be honest by saying I don't know the city well. Looking at the official Yokohama guidebook they seem to split it into 11 different areas grouped based off attractions and neighbourhoods. However, they don't appear to coincide well with the official ward boundaries, so if we go with those boundaries, we would really need to finesse the streets. If we follow the official ward boundaries, then most of the attractions will be in the Naka ward anyways, which kind of defeats the point of dividing into districts. I would defer the boundary making to someone with better understanding of the city and how things are grouped. Thuegh (talk) 01:07, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Eat Section
editMany of the listings seem to be written in bad English, and also come across as touting. Could anyone with good knowledge of Yokohama please help to clean it up? The dog2 (talk) 18:21, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
