Hello, Kriscarlson! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.
Hey Kris, I wanted to draw your attention to Project:Welcome, tourism professionals. In particular, a lot of the good content you are adding doesn't match with our goals for tone—it reads a bit like a tourism brochure, rather than a travel guide which should keep a bit of distance from being promotional. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:54, 30 November 2009 (EST)
- Heya, I really don't mean to curb your enthusiasm in any way, but some boring legalities bar us from using Wikipedia content at the moment (We are trying to change this, but it's not in effect yet), so please don't. I've also seen some concern about some of your external links, it would be great if you could skim the policy. Cheers --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 11:39, 1 December 2009 (EST)
- Also, you can use content from your own website, provided that you yourself own the copyright to it and post a notice on the article's talk page to let everyone know the content is yours, but keep in mind that Wikivoyage does aim to have original content ;) --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:14, 1 December 2009 (EST)
Kentucky State Parks
editI have tagged Kentucky State Parks and the associated image, as a copyright violation because the content has been directly lifted from the http://parks.ky.gov/ website. The website carries the statement Copyright 2009 Commonwealth of Kentucky, All rights reserved. Unless you can demonstrate that you have the authority of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to post their copyrighted content elsewhere, I am afraid we cannot use it. Someone like the director of the state park service would be an appropriate official representative to give that authority.
Please note that the content that you have contributed also violates various aspects of our manual of style, including, using the first person (Wikivoyage is not the Kentucky State Park Service), Spelling, the Tone seems to be touting, The 7±2 rule and assuming the content is always web-based. Additionally, while the Kentucky State Parks article is a different way of seeing travel, it is still essentially geographical and so should be a regional article in our geographical hierarchy and should therefore follow the Wikivoyage article templates. - (WT-en) Huttite 04:53, 2 December 2009 (EST)
