Pierre: Welcome to Wikivoyage. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.
Thanks a lot for your work on the French phrasebook. You may be interested in looking over the Project:Phrasebook Expedition and the Project:pseudo-phoneticization guide, if you haven't already. I'd especially like to hear your ideas and comments on those ongoing concerns. --(WT-en) Evan 16:36, 3 Dec 2003 (PST)
- So, I have to ask: are you trained as a linguist, or do you work as one? (WT-en) Maj is the only person I know who talks about "minimal sets" and the like. --(WT-en) Evan 17:41, 5 Dec 2003 (PST)

Romanian translation Tirana
editHi - I'm glad to see you attempted to translate the article Tirana from Romanian to English. I wrote that article in Romanian, and never did I think it would reach the English Wikivoyage in that form! Yes, Romanian is a bit different to French and Italian (grammar, vocabulary, etc). If you want, I will translate the article into English. Or, if you want help with any words, just ask me and I'll be glad to help. Cheers, (WT-en) Ronline 19:52, 25 Jan 2004 (EST)
- Deşi Cehia este o ţară fostă comunistă, rămâne cea mai bogată ţară din Europa de Est, însemnând că Praga va părea foarte mult ca un oraş din Europa de Vest - this sentence means the following in English:
- Even though Czechia is a former Communist country, it remains the wealthiest country in Eastern Europe (NB. "bogată" in Romanian doesn't only refer to wealth in terms of GDP for countries, so, even though Slovenia has a higher GDP per capita than Czechia, Czechia is more "bogată" - richer overall, with better services, etc.), meaning that Prague will seem very much like a Western European city.
- "Timp" and "ceas" are different in Romanian - "timp" means "time", "ceas" means "clock" literally. However, "ceas" can also be used to refer to time - like, "Cât e ceasul?" - "What's the time?". Timp, on the other hand, is more general like, "E timpul de mâncat" - "It's time to eat", or "Timpul e urât" - "The time is ugly (lit.)" meaning "The weather is not very nice" - like in French "le temps". Admin status
editPierre, you've now got admin privileges. Please look over the Project:Administrators page to make sure you know what you can and can't do, and re-login to make sure your cookie gets cleared and your new privs get updated. Also, watch the "Protect this page" link, as it's on a hair-trigger. Thanks for taking on this kinda boring work. B-) --(WT-en) Evan 17:10, 28 Jan 2004 (EST)
Pages
editPierre, thanks. Yes, but I wasn't sure what to do when Kuala Lumpur was already there, so I couldn't move Kuala Lampur [sic] into that article name. On Wikipedia, I believe what I would do is delete one of the articles to move the other into its place. This all stemmed from a typo on User:(WT-en) Maj/Todo which I clicked on and thought there was no article yet. :) (WT-en) Fuzheado 21:16, 30 Jan 2004 (EST)
Spellcheck
editPierre, thanks for fixing my spelling on the Namibia page. I'm really bad with spelling, it's too bad Wikivoyage doesn't have a spellcheck mechanism. --(WT-en) Dawnview 23:18, 31 Jan 2004 (EST)
- How do I use the spellcheck? --(WT-en) Dawnview 00:54, 1 Feb 2004 (EST)
- Thanks! BTW, are you sure that it's "Khoisan" and not "Khoesan?" I've never seen it written with an 'i'. --(WT-en) Dawnview 07:43, 1 Feb 2004 (EST)
- LOL! Fair enough. I read it in a publication about the San (The Status of the San in Southern Africa). But it seems from the Google search that either one is acceptable. --(WT-en) Dawnview 07:55, 1 Feb 2004 (EST)
Bears
editUnless there's a really good reason, please make a habit of using the Project:votes for deletion page. There's no harm in leaving a useless redirect around for a few extra days, and it gives everyone a warm fuzzy feeling that the process is fair. --(WT-en) Evan 15:03, 1 Feb 2004 (EST)

French Wikivoyage Expedition
editSo, the French language interface file is up for translation. I have a friend here in Montreal who's volunteered to help out with the Expedition -- he should be on later today sometime. I think that makes our magic fifth person. --(WT-en) Evan 14:23, 5 Feb 2004 (EST)
Congrats
editI think we're ready for business. http://www.fr.wikivoyage.org/wiki/ Good luck!
Questions
editHi,
Can you have a look at the questions I put on the Travellers'_pub and Evan's talk page. He may be busy with the server or something else. Thanks. (WT-en) Yann 08:39, 21 Feb 2004 (EST)
Go-between reports
editSo, for the go-between reports, I'm personally not that interested in horse-race results about number of pages added, number of users, etc.
For me, the health of the wiki is measured by the community there. Like, how are the help pages going? Is there a manual of style? What policy questions have come up lately (spelling, tu vs. vous, etc.), and how have they been resolved?
What technical issues are getting in the way of developing the site? If we have short-term goals for the wiki (e.g., getting certain Wikivoyage: namespace pages done in the first month), how are they progressing?
I'm more interested in keeping the communities in touch and less interested in keeping them in competition. Yeah, I know that sounds all Star Trek, about learning and sharing and caring, but it does kinda matter. --(WT-en) Evan 08:48, 22 Feb 2004 (EST)
Calendar
editHey, so, I think the calendar should point one way: from the date pages to destination pages. Not the other way around.
I don't like the way that pages look with lots of links to random things like month names. Not that the look bothers me, but it seems to encourage Wikipedia-like mad linking.
Anyways, I wonder if we can hold off on this right now. --(WT-en) Evan 09:00, 3 Mar 2004 (EST)
Wechselbot
editPierre, I commented on your Wechselbot idea on Project:Script nominations. (WT-en) DhDh 17:04, 5 Mar 2004 (EST)
Brazilian Portuguese phrasebook
editHi Pierre, I just floated a suggestion on the Phrasebook talk page that Brazilian Portuguese should have its own phrasebook. What do think? --(WT-en) Paul Richter 00:19, 19 Mar 2004 (EST)
Admin nomination
editPierre, I've just nominated User:(WT-en) Huttite for admin status. Please have a look at Project:Administrator nominations. (WT-en) Dhum Dhum Akubra 11:06, 24 Mar 2004 (EST)
- Thank you for your vote of support as a potential administrator. Though, respectfully, I feel I must decline the nomination at this time. - (WT-en) Huttite 05:54, 25 Mar 2004 (EST)
Upgrade
editI haven't seen any notes on it, but please let me know if there's any problems with the MediaWiki upgrade on fr:.
Also, tomorrow's my day for creating test.w.o. --(WT-en) Evan 01:44, 8 Apr 2004 (EDT)
Go-between report
editSo, I think the last go-between report for fr: was in March -- about 2-1/2 months ago. Any news? Things going well? --(WT-en) Evan 19:25, 2 Jun 2004 (EDT)
Sort Ascending?
editThe instructions at the top of Project:Votes for deletion says to add new items to the top of the list of proposed deletions. Did you invert the list? :-) -- (WT-en) Colin 13:53, 13 Jun 2004 (EDT)
- Evan fixed the instructions to match, so nevermind :-) -- (WT-en) Colin 14:32, 13 Jun 2004 (EDT)
Fixing Wikipedia Link?
editSo you made an edit to Newark (California) to "fix wikipedia link". On my web browser, it appears that you changed a working link into a non-working link (the link text doesn't appear at all now). Is my browser defective, or ?? -- (WT-en) Colin 23:22, 15 Jul 2004 (EDT)
- Ok, now I get it. I'd never noticed that little Other/sites languages line at the bottom of pages before. Thx. I guess I get to fix a bunch of my stuff now :-) -- (WT-en) Colin 00:07, 16 Jul 2004 (EDT)
Casino Spammer
editDon't worry. If (s)he comes back we'll do as before, and revert the links. Let's not block IP addresses until we absolutely must. It's probably dynamic, so it will do no good anyhow. If the spammer returns with the same IP it will make more sense, but I figure it's better to wait and see. -- (WT-en) Mark 06:09, 19 Aug 2004 (EDT)
Chinese Fonts
editI'm running Debian unstable, with KDE 3.3. I don't think the KDE or X versions matter really so much as just being able to get the font packages which I did with
apt-get install xfont-intl-* xfonts-efonts-unicode* ttf2pt1-chinese tfm-arphic*
I'm also running a package called fonts config, which sets up my X font configuration for TrueType, which is why I installed the ttf and tfm packages. To be honest I'm not sure which worked, because I took such a shotgun approach.
Now, bear in mind that I don't mind giving up the disk space. If you run RH I'm sure that there are similar packages out there, but I don't know what they would be called. I know that you can look up those packages on Debian's website to find out the upstream source, and install from source if you like. -- (WT-en) Mark 01:09, 11 Oct 2004 (EDT)
French Region Maps
editHi Pierre. I noticed that you provided the great maps for the French regions of Brittany and Corsica.... Are the rest of the maps available? (Maybe on French Wikivoyage?) If so, can we access them to place on new regions as they are created (such as Haute-Normandie?? All the best (WT-en) Pjamescowie 11:41, 11 Oct 2004 (EDT)

New admin nominees
editSo, I just nominated three new people for admin status. Since it takes the approval of two other admins to get one of these nominations approved, I'd appreciate it if you could drop in to Project:administrator nominations and show your support (or lack thereof). And, yes, this is just a copy-and-paste of the messages I've put on the other admins' talk pages. --(WT-en) Evan 17:18, 9 Nov 2004 (EST)
Go-between report for fr:
editThe last go-between report for fr: was on 26 October 2004. These are supposed to be monthly reports, per the Project:Language version policy. I know you've had some connection problems since the Nov 25 outage, but is there any way we can get some status in the Project:Logbook on what's going on on fr:? If you want, you can email me (evan at wikivoyage dot org) and I'll add it to the logbook. --(WT-en) Evan 12:08, 9 Feb 2005 (EST)
Go-between report

InterLangBot run in the french wikivoyage
editHi Pierre, we've starting a vote to have User:(WT-en) InterLangBot running in the french Wikivoyage. Could you have a look on the script nominations page? Regards. --(WT-en) Quirk 04:02, 28 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Election for a new administrator in french Wikivoyage
editHi Pierre,
There is an election for one new administrator for the french wikivoyage. I've nominated (WT-fr) Julien because he has now a good experience on Wikivoyage (revert spam, check licence compatibility, etc.) and I think it's better to have 2 administrators dedicated to the french version. Please, could give your vote too? Thanks. --(WT-en) Quirk 15:35, 18 Nov 2005 (EST)
Como vai?
editI've got a proposal for a bot to do the cleanup work on breadcrumb navigation here: Project:Script nominations#YggdrasilBot. Your comment welcome, please. --(WT-en) Evan 00:05, 11 Dec 2005 (EST)
Chalé Mineiro
editHi, Pierre. I think you have disabled your "mail this user" feature, so I'm using your talk page for this issue - feel free to delete it anytime. I've called Angélica this morning and she said she would send me the Swift code you need for the transfer. I gave her my mobile number and tonight she sent me an SMS confirming that your reservation (dorm room) has been guaranteed without need for the transfer. The message had no other info but I think it'll be ok because Chalé Mineiro isn't a particularly busy hostel, and it mustn't be for the period you've booked. Anyway, I'm sending her now an e-mail asking her to send you the confirmation by e-mail too, in case you haven't received it. Cheers, (WT-en) Rmx 20:38, 10 Jan 2006 (EST)
If you go to Minas Gerais I would suggest you to go to the historical cities (Ouro Preto/Mariana/Tiradentes/Sao Joao Del Rei) If you have enought time you could also go north of BH and try Diamantina.
- Sorry, didn't make it. I found out just before I left that I had to change my address and resubscribe to mailing lists. -(WT-en) phma 03:45, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)
Admin nomination
editI've nominated User:(WT-en) Cacahuate to become an admin; please comment on Project:administrator nominations when you have some time. --(WT-en) Evan 01:29, 6 January 2007 (EST)
Brazilian cities
editPierre, you've been a great contributor to the Brazil article, which needs to have its list of cities seriously downsized. I've come up with a proposal based on government statistics. Those do not necessarily reflect the needs and views of English-speaking travellers, so as you are very familiar with the country, maybe you'd like to join the discussion and help deciding which cities to keep on the list. Thanks, (WT-en) Ricardo (Rmx) 19:46, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
