Hello Ront!

Welcome to Wikivoyage. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.

Than you for contributong to Ganzi, Kham, Litang, Xiangcheng, Hue, Nanning and China, as well as joining our discussions. Good work, nice neat new articles. -- (WT-en) Huttite 08:13, 21 Jun 2005 (EDT)

And thanks from me too, great to see articles from places I'm planning to travel to myself! One thing though to correct a common misunderstanding: the "Get out" section is not the opposite of "Get in", it's supposed to mean day trips/excursions/interesting places in the vicinity. Transport schedules and other nitty gritty still belongs in Get in.
Also, should you have any opinions about the romanization of Lao, please chip in at Project:Romanization — personally, I detest the French style, but we haven't arrived (or really even started) a concrete policy yet. (WT-en) Jpatokal 07:41, 22 Jun 2005 (EDT)

General discussions and feature requests

edit

The best place for miscellaneous topics is Project:Travellers' pub. Do note that any feature that requires significant programming is unlikely to get implemented unless you can do the work yourself, User:(WT-en) Evan is a busy man... (WT-en) Jpatokal 03:50, 5 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Xiangcheng Image

edit

Hi Ront. The syntax you used for the Xiangcheng image is correct -- [[Image:Cubical_houses_in_Xiangcheng_valley.JPG|thumb|left|300px|Traditional houses in Xiangcheng valley]] -- but as far as I can tell that image has never been uploaded (I looked at the 100 most recent images and didn't see anything). Take a look at Project:How to add an image and Project:How to upload files for a discussion of how to put an image on the Wikivoyage server. -- (WT-en) Wrh2 13:23, 22 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Ah, I understand now. Since Wikivoyage isn't an official Wikimedia project there is no easy way to use stuff from commons, and it must also be uploaded here. There has been some discussion about handling this sort of thing better (I'm feeling lazy, but I think it is still in the Project:Travellers' pub) but at the present time the workaround is still to upload a separate copy to the Wikivoyage server. -- (WT-en) Wrh2 14:36, 22 Oct 2005 (EDT)
