Hello, 2602:306:379D:1AA0:38F4:FAF2:A792:86BC! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Wikivoyage:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

By the way, have you considered creating an account here? While you can absolutely keep contributing as an anonymous user, it promises a bunch of benefits, and no obligations.

Can you please explain MediaWiki_talk:Protectedpagetext ? It doesn't seem to belong in Wikivoyage. Andrewssi2 (talk) 00:40, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

You nominated the above page for deletion by mistake. Now people are experiencing this. 2602:306:379D:1AA0:D57D:7A03:608C:5B7C 01:08, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Just to add to what the anon said, pages in the MediaWiki namespace are used to control messages on the site. Adding {{vfd}} to MediaWiki:Protectedpagetext will cause every protected page on the site to show the VFD notice. I've deleted your changes to resolve that issue. -- Ryan • (talk) • 01:19, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
If I understand correctly, adding VFD to a MediaWiki namespace is a bad idea (noted for next time), although the page should not have been created in the first instance. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:32, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Actually there was no page on Wikivoyage until it was created with the content {{vfd}} - prior to that, there was no local copy of the page and it simply showed the default MediaWiki message for protected pages, but once the local copy was created it overrode the default version. -- Ryan • (talk) • 02:36, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Just to help me out here Ryan , the URL the location where I placed the VFD was https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Protectedpagetext . Are you saying it didn't actually exist on Wikivoyage (even though it was in the URL) before I placed the VFD on it? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:40, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Check the deletion log - the VFD tag was on the mainspace page, not the talk page. -- Ryan • (talk) • 02:47, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
My mistake, thanks. Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:48, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is the discussion page for an anonymous user who has not created an account yet, or who does not use it. We therefore have to use the numerical IP address to identify them. Such an IP address can be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user and feel that irrelevant comments have been directed at you, please create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users.
