Nizil Shah
Hello and welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
Also, please read what is an article and Welcome, Wikipedians. Temples rarely get their own article on this site, and in addition, your Brihadeeswarar Temple was completely copied and pasted from Wikipedia at first, with travel information for Thanjavur appended, which is not needed for a site within that city. That temple is a sight in Thanjavur, and is covered in the Thanjavur article. If you believe the "See" listing for Brihadishwara Temple in the Thanjavur article needs to be respelled or edited in any other way, please plunge forward and do so, though without simply copying large amounts of encyclopedic text from Wikipedia.
All the best,
Thank you
editThank you very much for your helpful edits to articles about Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar! Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:49, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Copyright violation
editHello, and thank you for adding content, but please avoid copying and pasting from other sites in violation of their copyrights and Wikivoyage's copyleft policy. Whenever I see a multi-paragraph listing, I tend to be suspicious of a copypasta job, so I did a web search for the following text:
"An ancient city, a gateway to Rajasthan. A hiding place for rulers, concealed from enemies, citizens, angry wives, even from the sun, tucked between"
Can we trust you to eliminate all plagiarism as soon as possible (as in, within 24 hours at most), or is it necessary to revert all articles to their last version before your edits? The choice is up to you, and please avoid doing this in the future.

- Thanks, User:Ikan Kekek for bringing my attention to copyvio. It was imported from en:w:Sabarkantha district which I did not suspected as copyvio. Removed from both places. I am Wikipedian for long time and know seriousness of copyvio. I think I have not added copyvio content from any sources excepted copied texts from Wikipedia sometimes. Still if you have doubts, please go through my edits and suggest me if any problems. Regards,--Nizil Shah (talk) 18:38, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- OK, about Wikipedia: It's permissible to copy and paste from Wikipedia, but only if you credit your source in an edit summary. Otherwise, it violates both Wikipedia's Creative Commons Copyleft and Wikivoyage's copyleft policies. As a matter of style, it's sometimes good to copy swathes of text from Wikipedia but usually better to summarize and paraphrase. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:01, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Red-linked districts
editHi, and thanks as always for your contributions. However, I'm reverting your insertion of "Districts" sections with red-linked district names in articles for regions in Gujarat. Why don't you instead start articles for some of the red-linked cities?
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:24, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek:, thank you for pointing it out. Then please delete Mehsana district as well. I was thinking of writing from top-down approach but you suggested bottom-up approach which is better. Will do it that way. Regards,-Nizil Shah (talk) 06:26, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- Great. Will do. And district articles could always be (re)started in the future, if the region articles become too unwieldy (e.g., lots of cities with articles in each region). Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:06, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

"Only museum of ikat work"
editHi, Nizil. What do you mean by that? The only museum where that has ikat work? Only museum in Patan? Only museum in Gujarat, perhaps? I speak Malay and know "ikat" to mean "tie(d)". Loads of museums show ikat sarongs of different kinds. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:28, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek: Thanks for noting. Well, I read such claim on their website. I will remove it. -Nizil Shah (talk) 06:32, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

- I haven't read through the entire article yet. I noticed, though, that you changed "By plane" to "By air". We don't use "By land", "By sea", "By air", although that's a perfectly logical alternative to the style we've adopted. We use "By plane", "By train", "By bus", etc. See Wikivoyage:Article skeleton templates/Sections#Get in. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:14, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

North Gujarat
editHello Nizil Shah. Please take a look at Wikivoyage:Region article template. This policy says:
- Almost always, individual listings (including detailed contact info for restaurants and hotels) do *not* belong in a region or sub-region page. The region-level description is a brief overview only; it will mention that Walt Disney World is near Orlando but not list full contact info. Don't name every hotel and eatery in the area. General descriptions like "many hotels in Orlando accommodate visitors to the Disney park", "multiple restaurants offer patios facing the river" or "various marinas in Ontario and New York rent boats to Thousand Islands visitors" are fine but leave it at that and save the lists of individual hotels, cafés and marinas for the city or local-level articles. Individual listings should be placed at the lowest available level of local page (a district of a huge city or the city page for a small town).
North Gujarat seriously violates this policy. The individual listings in See and Do should be moved to city articles. Also, I deleted the restaurant you added. The listing did not tell the reader where to find this place in North Gujarat, which is a very large region. It also didn't tell the reader when it is open, what sort of food is served, how to contactbthe restaurant, etc. Of you know what city it us in, you can add the listing go that city article, but without an address at the very least, it isn't useful to the reader. Ground Zero (talk) 22:34, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing it out. I had added places in See and Do sections as a placeholder before I create specific article. I think I need to make "rural area" articles to list them. In past, when I created such articles (see #Red-linked districts), I was told to work bottom-up approach. I created several city articles and for places which are not in any city, I placed them in region articles as there were no in-between articles to hold these places.
- There is a confusion how to manage it. In Gujarat state of India, there are 3 levels of administrative divisions: State/District/Taluka. There are about 250 Talukas and 33 Districts in Gujarat state. For example, w:Mehsana district has 9 subdivisions called Taluka and in each Taluka there are one or more cities, few towns and several villages. Taluka is something akin to County.
- Should I create Taluka labeled article as rural area articles? Should I list city and town articles in these Taluka articles as they are located in those Talukas? Or should I create District (which is fairly large region) articles and list all things including Cities and towns in that district?
- Currently Gujarat is divided in 5 Regions. Each Region contain several Districts and many more Talukas.
- How should I manage this? Please suggest. Regards,-Nizil Shah (talk) 06:08, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- We don't necessarily follow official divisions on this site; instead, we use divisions that are most useful to the traveller. Until an existing region article becomes too heavy with cities and other bottom-level articles (such as national park articles), there is no reason to subdivide it on Wikivoyage. What is too city-heavy? Maybe close to 14 cities, if they can be divided close to half-and-half in two sub-regions. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:06, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Ikan Kekek, I understand that there is no need to follow official divisions. The question is: Where should I add places (see, do etc) which cannot be added in city articles as they are not in city and cannot be added to region articles as per above? There is no in-between level of article.- Nizil Shah (talk) 08:24, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- The most common solution is to put them in the article for the nearest city and specify in the "Understand" section of that article that it also covers (Name of Neighbouring City). How far are these listings from the nearest city that has a Wikivoyage article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:32, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Some places are 20 to 40km away from nearest city. I believe that listings not more than 5km from city is OK to be in relevant city article but beyond that is not useful to tourists as they might be not accessible by local transport (get around). Another problem is I cannot add coordinate in those listings as it will clutter/zoom-out city mapframe maps too much and will make it less useful. For example, Shanku's Water Park and Resort listed in in North Gujarat#Do is about 20km from Mehsana and 25km from Kadi. Regards,- Nizil Shah (talk) 08:49, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Would it be reasonable to create a rural area article for that area? See Rural Montgomery County for an example of such an article. Another option is to possibly give the resort its own article, like Walt Disney World, but the description needs only a few sentences, so that doesn't seem like a good option. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:30, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- I also think that 20-40 km is within the distance an optional "Nearby" section could cover in the Mehsana article. Is it really impossible to hire a car or take a cab or autorickshaw 20-40 km in that area? Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:33, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- "Nearby" section would work for most of the things I guess if city/town article exists. I need to create articles for cities where "Neraby" places can be added. One issue: Should I not add coordinates as it will clutter/zoom-out city mapframe maps? Or any other way to no show up coordinates in map of "Nearby" places? Thank you for guiding me. Regards,- Nizil Shah (talk) 06:58, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Nizil Shah, thank you for your reply. I understand better what you are doing. Ikan Kekek has explained how we create a hierarchy in Wikivoyage, i.e., not following official administrative divisions.
Even if a point of interest is 40 km away from a city or town, a traveller will usually have to stay in a city or town to visit it, so it makes sense to put the point of interest in the article for the nearest town for which we have an article. The region article should exp,ain what there is to see in the region in general terns, with a link to the town/city article where the reader can find more information. I hope that helps. Ground Zero (talk) 15:01, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Your explanation is understandable. "Nearby" section would work for most of the places. Just coord issue as mentioned above. Thank you for correcting me. -- Nizil Shah (talk) 07:00, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- Ikan Kekek and Ground Zero: I have moved Do listings from North Gujarat to Mehsana#Nearby. Please checkout. Is it OK? Please see its impact on mapframe map too. WV:sections#Nearby explains it bit differently so am I doing right? -- Nizil Shah (talk) 07:26, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- The optimal placement of the mapframe is often a tricky question. I'm not sure this is optimal, but I don't know what else might be. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:45, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- Well, I added Nearby places in Patan (Gujarat) too. It poorly impacted map too. Is there any way to add listing with coords in article but no being included in mapframe? It may solve map issue. Nizil Shah (talk) 07:28, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- Well, I did move some listing to Nearby sections but I am very unsatisfied by the result. See Mehsana#Nearby ruined the map. @Ground Zero, is there any way to fix the mapframe issue? Nizil Shah (talk) 07:06, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm sorry: I don't have a solution for you. I would love to know how to separate a map like this into two: one with "city" listings, and one with "district" listings. Would it make sense to split the article into two articles, Mehsana City and Mehsana region? Ground Zero (talk) 03:48, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

@Nizil Shah: I finally found an article that separates listings between two maps. Take a look at Maó to see how to do it. I hope this works for the article you've been working on. Ground Zero (talk) 13:58, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
