Hello, Pjamescowie! Welcome to Wikivoyage. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub. You seem to be jumping in with both feet; that's really cool. -- (WT-en) Evan 09:32, 11 Nov 2003 (PST)

Is Strudel's URL right? See Talk:Jerusalem. -(WT-en) phma 11:53, 16 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Some excellent stuff here. May I make a suggestion? Use the comment structure viz. <!-- .... --> to comment out the templates so they don't detract from the actual article. --(WT-en) Nzpcmad 15:57, 7 Jul 2004 (EDT)

Hey, great work on the Egypt and the rest! I'm really enjoying your contribution -- good reading and good for trip planning... I look forward to more and hope you don't mind my edits... (WT-en) Majnoona 20:25, 7 Jul 2004 (EDT)

Hey, you should probably check out the links in listings page. It looks like we are heading toward a consensus in which we'll have neither fron-linked listings, nor bare URLs at the end, but rather at the end of the contact stuff, after the phone numbers. Have a look. -- (WT-en) Mark 16:11, 12 Sep 2004 (EDT)

Sydney

edit

Would really appreciate your comments on my Proposal for refactoring Sydney -- see Talk:Sydney. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Hypatia 05:20, 8 Oct 2004 (EDT)

Paris

edit

Thanks for all of the good work on Paris. I hope you continue. I'd really like to get Paris in shape for a DOM spot in April or May, (you know, Paris in the spring).. anyhow I really really appreciate your contributions, as I believe do the rest of the community!

I'm going to be back in Paris next weekend by the way, in case there's anything particular you would like to see covered. -- (WT-en) Mark 13:31, 9 Oct 2004 (EDT)

arrondissement overview map

edit

You are absolutely right. This should be a very easy map to knock out, so I'm sorry I haven't done it so far. I'll probably try to get it done this weekend. -- (WT-en) Mark 14:45, 9 Oct 2004 (EDT)

Your critique of the map were right-on. I think the newer draft is better, with La Défence spelled correctly (I think) and the numbers and letters more legible. -- (WT-en) Mark 13:47, 10 Oct 2004 (EDT)
... and now.. with improved spelling -- (WT-en) Mark 17:44, 10 Oct 2004 (EDT)

Germany

edit

Hi there,

I tidied up the German city listing and left only the few major cities as they were found by you. It is always going to be point for controversial discussions where is the cut-off for cities this listing. My personal short list was the one the was edited by you and I kept it to a minimum. My selection criteria where a) major city b) is it worth visiting this city for a broader number of visitors (that would eliminate Hanover) c) how did the city article look like.

Hope we come to an aggreed city listing in the near future.

PS Thanks for the help with the Munster link

French region maps

I got them from the French Wikivoyage. -(WT-en) phma 20:26, 11 Oct 2004 (EDT)

In need of your feedback about maps

edit

Hi Paul,

I've posted a request for feedback on Project:Mapmaking Expedition, and would specifically like to hear from you since you're also doing a lot of work on Paris, and that's where I'm working out the problem in question. -- (WT-en) Mark 09:39, 8 Dec 2004 (EST)

edit

Hi,

Thanks for your help with the grammar and spelling fixes on the Goulburn page. I noticed you also made some modifications to some external urls changing them to a [http://....] format. Is this a style I should be following? (The template I was working from Project:Small_city_article_template#See lists the full url, and other style information I've seen around as well the goals suggested keeping full urls in the articles so that links were useful when printed for. Any pointers or links to other info here would be appreciated. - (WT-en) Arcae 04:38, 3 Feb 2005 (EST)

New Stub Articles

edit

Please don't forget to add those new stub pages to Stubs needing attention. That way we can find them again after they fall off the recent changes list, and do not have to troll through all the new pages looking for them. -- (WT-en) Huttite 16:29, 27 Mar 2005 (EST)

Admin nomination

edit

Paul, would you be interested in helping out as an administrator for Wikivoyage? You've been here so long, you seem like part of the furniture; I doubt there are many people who are as knowledgeable about Wikivoyage as you are. What do you say? --(WT-en) Evan 09:49, 30 Jun 2005 (EDT)

LOL, some days I feel like part of the furniture! Thanks, Evan, it's a genuine honour and I'd love to help out any way I am able. (WT-en) Pjamescowie 12:33, 30 Jun 2005 (EDT)
Excellent. I've posted a nomination on Project:administrator nominations; keep an eye out there to see if there are any questions from other admins. Looking forward to having you on the team! --(WT-en) Evan 20:12, 1 Jul 2005 (EDT)
And it's done! Welcome aboard. If you have any questions about the fiddly bits, ask me or other admins. It's not hard once you get the hang of it. --(WT-en) Evan 13:20, 24 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Wales

edit

Originally I set up the Wales' page with regions to avoid having a long and dangling list of cities, counties and boroughs. All these are now listed on shorter lists under their designated regions. However, I notice that you added the two counties for Mid Wales on the main Wales page. I'm afraid this will start the long dangling list again, especially when all the counties and boroughs for South and North Wales are added. Consequently, I took the liberty of deleting the two mid Wales counties. Anyway, give the matter some tought, and if you decide to re-introduce them to the front page, then so be it. I won't delete them again. You can reply on the Wales discussion page if you wish, but your reply will be understood by your action.

"yob"

edit

Thanks for adding the extra text explaining the term -- without it, it was entirely incomprehensible to my poor American ears. You also mention other Western countries exhibit this peculiar behavior -- would it be advisable to add warnings for them too? I've never heard of this thing here in the states -- possibly because in the more violent US, such behavior would lead to significant fatalities among the instigators. -- (WT-en) Colin 03:15, 13 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Egypt - missing stuff

edit

There was a spam/hack thing that occured over the weekend, doing a bunch of random edits. It was difficult to nail down exactly which article in the history to revert to, so that how they got lost. -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 17:11, 10 Oct 2005 (EDT)

YggdrasilBot

edit

I've got a proposal for a bot to do the cleanup work on breadcrumb navigation here: Project:Script nominations#YggdrasilBot. Your comment welcome, please. --(WT-en) Evan 00:05, 11 Dec 2005 (EST)

copied from Talk:Very Large Array

I'm not convinced the VLA passes the "you can sleep there" test as a destination. It's already mentioned in the Socorro article, and since Socorro is the nearest practical place to sleep, that strikes me as enough. Let's discuss. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 22:52, 25 Dec 2005 (EST)

Update: It's now redirected to the teeny town of Magdalena nearby, which does pass the "you can sleep there" test. If you want to make some trivial change to the Magdalena article and re-establish "ownership" of the VLA content (I just lifted what you wrote on the VLA article, with a couple of minor additions), it won't bother me at all. :-) -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 22:45, 25 February 2006 (EST)

Wales - regions

edit

Hey Paul, excluding the three cities, there are actually 11 districts in South Wales. See Wikipedia - subdivisions of Wales. Then, when we include the districts of north and mid Wales, we have a list of 19 districts. As stated on the Wales main article, these districts are already listed under their specific regional page, and I wonder what is the benefit of creating a long, dangling list on the primary page, especially as many of the districts are of little or no interest to travelers. However, if you feel this is of some use, then please change it back. I won't revert again. (WT-en) WindHorse 21 Jan 06

"Shared" for images

edit

Hey - a relatively recent addition to the site was Wikivoyage shared, which allows uploaded images to be used across language versions. It probably hasn't been advertised as much as it could be, but the idea is that you upload the images to http://shared.wikivoyage.org/wiki/, and they are then available to all languages as if they were local images. See Image:01-denali-from-reflection-pond.jpg for an example. -- (WT-en) Ryan 18:02, 17 April 2006 (EDT)

Formatting

edit

When you have some time, you might want to checkout formatting for Attraction listings, Phone numbers, and Time and date formats. I mention this because some of your recent changes have actively removed correct formatting such as moving weblinks away from their correct position, replacing correct internationally formatted phone numbers with local, and removing capitalized PM. -- (WT-en) Colin 19:00, 28 April 2006 (EDT)

A little bit of admin help

edit

Could you please revert and delete everything User:(WT-en) Ilikecats uploads or edits. He's a vandal, who will never be converted. I suggest not actually looking at any of the images he uploads because they are all pronography. Any help would be appreciated, because I have to leave for work soon. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 04:09, 14 August 2006 (EDT)

ArchaeoWiki --> Wikipedia

edit

Hi! I am actually user Coin945 (i havent used this particular project before..). I stumbled upon your facsinating project the other day, and seems a shame to me that a lot of the great info is isolated by the fact that it is in that project rather than on a medium where it can be read and enjoyed by more people. I am seeking your permission to publish works from ArchaeoWiki on Wikipedia.--58.170.156.228 23:36, 30 November 2011 (EST)
