editHello, PinkAmpersand! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~

Differences from Wikipedia
editHi, Tamzin! I'm glad you came back to add some updates to the Cape May article! I'm going to post our standard welcome message for Wikipedians below. For better or worse, we don't use inline links to Wikipedia in prose (see Wikivoyage:Links to Wikipedia) like some other Wikivoyages (e.g., fr.wikivoyage) do, but there are many similarities between the two sister sites, too.
Hello Tamzin! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:
- NPOV → be fair (not quite the same thing!)
- be bold → plunge forward
- Village pump → travellers' pub
- External links → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.
- sandbox → graffiti wall
- stub tagging → Article status
It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!
Thanks very much, and please carry on!
All the best,

- @Ikan Kekek: Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the clarification about local norms. Could you explain how you handle unfamiliar terms and concepts, then? "Cape May diamond" is a term that will be unfamiliar to most readers, so what's the best way to handle that? Likewise, with Sunset Beach, it seems like a bit of a missed opportunity to not link to some halfway-decent wiki-based content about that location, when currently there's nothing about it on Wikivoyage and I'm not sure whether an article about it here would meet y'all's standards. I'm very much not trying to be the outsider who barges in and says "You're doing it wrong", so these are genuine questions; just trying to grasp how y'all make it work. Thanks. -- Tamzin[cetaceans>citations] (she/they) 08:54, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
- Sure thing. I would say, just add any interesting content to the article and cite the relevant Wikipedia articles by linking them in your edit summaries and/or mentioning them on Talk:Cape May. Wikivoyage wouldn't cover Cape May diamonds in the same degree of detail as w:Cape May diamonds, but a good summary in the Cape May article would be welcome.
- I'd add, if you'd like to reopen discussion of what kinds of links can be made to Wikipedia in which contexts, you can always post to Wikivoyage talk:Links to Wikipedia or Wikivoyage talk:Sister project links. I'm guessing it might be hard to get a consensus behind a further opening toward linking at will, but I don't know, because the membership has changed somewhat since the last time we had the discussion, and I do know that some of the discussions we've had in the past have led to some relaxation in these guidelines.
- All the best,
