Portugal Expedition Proposal
edit- Swept in from the pub
I have spent a few weeks getting all the outline cities in Portugal upgraded to usable (current stats). I would love to get all the outline regions upgraded as well and get the now usable cities up to guide status. I cannot undertake this huge task by myself and am thinking about starting Wikivoyage:Portugal Expedition, but I fear that community interest would be somewhere between low and zero. I don't think we have any current editors from Portugal. Does anybody have any thoughts on this proposed expedition? Nelson Ricardo (talk) 01:54, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- Strong Support It would be great to have one, and am actually surprised that we don't have one yet. Also, thanks for your great work to Portuguese articles! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 02:02, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support creating this expedition. I have the same concern as Nelson does, but there’s no harm in setting up an expedition page. We ought to consider, though, how to use our expeditions to attract more editors from the respective regions. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:52, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and launched Wikivoyage:Portugal Expedition. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 14:43, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Azores cities vs sub-subregions
editThe region of Azores has nine islands. Five have more than one municipality. Of these five:
- Flores (Azores) is set up as a city. Zero of two municipalities have an article, and it has no associated category.
- Pico is set up as a city. Zero of three municipalities have an article, and it has no associated category.
- São Jorge (Azores) is set up as a region. Zero of two municipalities have an article, and it has no associated category.
- São Miguel is set up as a region. One of six municipalities has an article, and it has an associated category.
- Terceira is set up as a region. One of two municipalities has an article, and it has an associated category.
The four islands that each have just one municipality are set up as city articles.
Should we leave the status quo or make any changes, such as converting Flores and Pico into regions and giving them and São Jorge a category, in hopes that municipality articles will be forthcoming?
For comparison, the region of Madeira has no subregions and its island of Porto Santo (one of eleven municipalities; the other ten being on the island of Madeira itself) is set up as a city. --Nelson Ricardo (talk) 03:01, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
Article ideas and requests
editCustom tasks
editOlá, Nelson Ricardo 2500, why do you ask for "Add all Pousadas to the appropriate city articles" and "Improve description of pousada at Portugal#Sleep and wikilink all pousadas to here"? Why do I have to treat a private hotel group differently from other hotel groups? Sanjorgepinho (talk) 14:32, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Sanjorgepinho, that's a good point. Am I misreading Wikipedia that the Portuguese State still holds 51% ownership of the pousadas? If I have misinterpreted this, then we should definitely remove these tasks. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 18:15, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- @ Nelson Ricardo 2500, this is a complex subject that we can discuss later. The important thing is that the Portuguese State does not directly intervene in any company in the tourism sector, and who operates the Pousadas de Portugal is Grupo Pestana, the largest Portuguese hotel group.
- To understand, let's see, for example, the Operating License for the "Pousada Castelo de Alcácer", which can be consulted at: https://registos.turismodeportugal.pt/RNET.aspx?nr=3577
- As you can see, this “Pousada” in Alcácer do Sal has a valid operating license until: 2022-03-13, the Owner is Enatur-Empresa Nacional de Turismo, SA, but the Entity exploring this “pousada” is Grupo Pestana Pousadas - Tourism Investments, SA
- It is no coincidence that the Pousadas de Portugal page, at https://pousadas.pt/en, is associated with all the hotel websites of the Pestana group. Sanjorgepinho (talk) 19:21, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Sanjorgepinho, For the time being, I have struck through these tasks and added a note regarding discussion. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 19:59, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
