Empty "sleep" section edit

Is there no place to stay or have we just not yet gotten around to listing the place there is? Hobbitschuster (talk) 10:29, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Google Maps shows at least three hotels within this district. Powers (talk) 19:11, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Alternative banner for this article? edit

Suggested new alternative banner

I created a new alternative banner for this article (I initially created it first and foremost so that it would be used at the top of the parallel article in the Hebrew edition of Wikivoyage, yet I later decided to also suggest that the English Wikivoyage community would consider using it here as well). So, which banner do you prefer having at the top of this article? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 05:03, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't see any clear advantage for the new banner over the current one, as both are appropriate and colorful in their own ways. However, there is room for another picture in the article, so why don't we put a thumbnail of the source material for the new banner in the article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:44, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
The current banner could have been taken anywhere. Therefore, in my opinion the suggested banner works better. ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 05:46, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I see your point. So perhaps we should switch the banners and use the source material for the current banner in the article. I do like the colorful parasols. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:55, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
The current banner was actually taken in the destination, and although I have not been it conveys the spirit of the Coney island summer vacation much better than the proposed one. Vote to keep original. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 13:20, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
The current banner is great, but I think its source image is even better, so I'd put it elsewhere in the article and switch to the new one, which is equally great. Powers (talk) 18:13, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

As a New Yorker who's been to Coney Island for almost 50 years, I would disagree that the current banner conveys the spirit of Coney Island better than the new one. The new one is an immediately recognizable image of Coney Island, and showing how it looks at dusk when the crowds have thinned is as poetic as showing the colorful parasols and crowd during the day. I'd like one of each. :-) But Powers really has the best solution, and I'd like all of you to please look at the fantastic photo from which the current banner is made and tell me you don't love this picture better than the banner that was made from it (I'm finding that I have to enlarge the thumbnail to around 350px to do it justice).

I am also a Coney Island person and #2 conveys the place much better. Syced (talk) 09:19, 25 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I just reverted what seemed to me a premature banner change. Andrewssi2 and Danapit, would you be willing to reconsider your thoughts in light of Powers' proposal to use the source image for the current banner in the article and change the banner to the new one? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:26, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the arguments seem convincing to me. I think there is a good reason for changing the banner. Danapit (talk) 09:13, 2 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for reverting. I do feel we are now changing banners on the basis of 'perceived just over the line consensus' rather than 'clear consensus'.
That said, I would change and support Powers suggestion in this instance. Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:55, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, ויקיג'אנקי, please understand that "consensus" does not mean a mere majority, but an overwhelming sentiment one way or the other. Consensus doesn't have to be unanimous but should be a clear supermajority. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:57, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your flexibility. I'll make the change. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:23, 2 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Manhattan Beach edit

I've never been to Manhattan Beach, as far as I know, and don't know anything much about it. Would anyone like to say something about it in the "Understand" section? Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:41, 2 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
