Merge article?

@Vaticidalprophet, LivelyRatification: May we merge this article to Overland travel between Melbourne and Adelaide? I'd like for that to be made a star article and that also has info on the GOR but not enough. What do you think? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:10, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Both articles are fairly long. Would it be better to split the Dukes/Western/South-Eastern route out of Overland travel between Melbourne and Adelaide, and have the Overland article provide a general introduction and links to the two route articles? A traveller is really only going to be travelling one route at a time.

As someone who wants to travel these routes (not someone who knows anything about them), I think separate articles might be less cluttered and more useful. Ground Zero (talk) 11:25, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Think carefully about this merge proposal. I'm not sure it is a good idea. Great Ocean Road is considered one of the best tourist drives in Australia. Some people think it is the very best one. It is included as one of the top nine "Other destinations" in Australia. Would we really not want to have an article dedicated to it? Nurg (talk) 12:08, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Cautiously against it. The Great Ocean Road is one of the most famous Australian tourist drives and the article itself is fairly detailed as a standalone article. Add a warning of "drive to the left"

This may seem rather odd and strange but can we add, keep to the left side of the road? Near Torquay, and up to 100km west of Torquay, there's constant reminders about every 1-3 km saying "Drive to the left in Australia". So I'm presuming that people have drove on the right before. No. As long as it is mentioned in the 'Australia' article (which it is) there is no need to repeat it in other Australian articles. Nurg (talk) 11:41, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

That's very odd to know about all those reminders. I recently added a photo of such a sign in Australia to an article, and had assumed it was near an airport though the description didn't say where it was taken. In Europe, on roads leading away from ports on either side of the Channel one or two signs remind you drive on the left or right, but once you've passed those you're on your own.--ThunderingTyphoons! Warrnambool to Port Fairy vs Guide status

The Warrnambool to Port Fairy section in Go is empty, yet the article is rated Guide.

Something is wrong here; if the route goes as far as Port Fairy (or beyond) that section has to be covered too, otherwise the article can't have guide status. If on the other hand the itinerary ends in Warrnambool, then the article would be complete, but the header of the mentioned section should be either deleted or moved to Go next (ie. a suggestion to continue your trip after completing this itinerary) and expanded. --Ypsilon (talk) 15:38, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
