Region
editI wonder... are the various Gulf Coasts, from Brownsville to Key West, cohesive enough to form some kind of meta-regional article, spanning state lines? Would there be any value in it? --(WT-en) Evan 00:05, 13 July 2006 (EDT)
- The Wikipedia article indicates that it's a cohesive region, but I'm not sure what the value would be in creating a region article. It would be a similar case to the Rocky Mountains - we could make that a region article, but it cuts across regions that everyone has already agreed upon (in this case the US & Canada & the states/provinces in them). In this case we'd have a region that includes parts of the South and Texas, as well as Mexico, and I'm not sure that the disadvantage of confusing the existing hierarchy is worth any benefit that would be gained by having such an article. -- (WT-en) Ryan 00:25, 13 July 2006 (EDT)
- I agree, I postulated it more as a straw man than a real proposal. I could see an itinerary in it, though; Driving the Gulf Coast might work... --(WT-en) Evan 00:45, 13 July 2006 (EDT)

editReasons are similar to the cardinal point redirects & West Coast etc. above. Also, this one is incomplete; it does not have the Gulf coasts of Mexico, Panama, ... or of Saudi Arabia. Pashley (talk) 11:02, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. I was quite surprised that that article had none for Mexico. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:08, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Keep as long we have articles by that name (with disambiguation suffix). Some of the articles could be moved to better names and removed from the disambiguation page, but if there are some missing we cannot get rid of it. –LPfi (talk) 18:50, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Keep — this is a tourist destination usually referring to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. This isn't used arbitrarily as the cardinal directions are used. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:04, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Should we then rewrite this to mention that tourist destination in plain text? There is a distinction between "more than one place" and "split between several articles". –LPfi (talk) 09:50, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- I just noticed we have Gulf Of Mexico which overlaps with this disambiguation page. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 20:43, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Shouldn't we keep pages on common search terms? Then perhaps keep this and link to Gulf Of Mexico for the Gulf Coasts of that sea. I'd do it the other way round and have a section on the Gulf Of Mexico, but I assume there are some islands that would feel misplaced in a coast disambiguation. We have disambiguation or extraregion pages for several seas, so this isn't that odd. –LPfi (talk) 09:50, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- Per WV:Bodies of water, it seems like it, but that policy has always left me confused (hence why I don't get involved much in discussions relating to bodies of water) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:24, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

- Keep. We don't have articles called Gulf Coast (Mexico), Gulf Coast (Panama) or Gulf Coast (Saudi Arabia) so no articles are missing IMO. We should keep the page to disambiguate our articles but not try to cover every place in the world, any more than we should list every "north coast" etc in the world.
