Gonjiam (Gonjiam-eup) is located in the southwestern part of Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province, and boasts a long history and tradition. The name "Gonjiam" is a combination of "Gonji (坤地)" meaning "great land" and "am (巖)" meaning "rock," which together imply "the rock of a great land."

In modern times, Gonjiam has become well-known for Gonjiam Resort, a popular winter destination for skiing. The area itself is peaceful and offers beautiful natural landscapes. The opening of the Gyeonggang Line train in 2016 has improved accessibility to Seoul, boosting the local economy.

History

edit

This area has been known for its beautiful natural landscape since the Joseon Dynasty and is historically significant, especially due to its proximity to Cheonggyesan Mountain and Namhansanseong Fortress.

During the Joseon era, the Gonjiam area was a key transportation hub, connecting Seoul (then Hanyang) with southern regions. This strategic location also made it a military stronghold. Moreover, the region developed a rich agricultural industry, with active trade and logistics centered around the Han River basin.

In modern times, Gonjiam has developed into a tourist destination, thanks to its proximity to natural attractions. Notably, Gonjiam Resort is a popular ski resort that attracts many visitors. Additionally, urban legends surrounding the Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital have led some to associate the area with eerie experiences, though this is largely based on superstition. In reality, Gonjiam is a peaceful and scenic area.

Gonjiam's growth is also closely tied to industrial and transportation developments. With the opening of the Gyeonggang Line, transportation access has greatly improved, making travel between Seoul and Gyeonggi Province more convenient. This, in turn, has boosted the local economy as more people visit the area.

Given this historical background, Gonjiam is a region where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony.

Gonji Rack is a natural landmark located in Gonjiam, Gwangju City, Gyeonggi-do. It is a popular tourist destination, known for its unique rock formations and scenic surroundings. According to local folklore, Gonjiam Rock is believed to have mystical powers, and wishes made here are said to come true. The area is a favorite among hikers, offering well-maintained trails and opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature. Gonji Rack combines the wonder of nature with traditional Korean folklore, making it an attractive destination for visitors.

I am a Korean university student. As a school project, I wrote a tour guide to introduce Gwangju (Gyeonggi), one of the Korean regions. I want you to give me feedback. Is it enough for you to understand the Gwangju (Gyeonggi) area? If you give me feedback, I will revise it in the future and make it a better article. Xisuux (talk) 06:14, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Good ! I like it because it's rich in content. However, It would be nice to add more about what to enjoy in Gwangju. Jeong Ahram (talk) 06:32, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi I am also university student. For your Gwangju page, I want to say it is good. But I think It could be better page if there are public transportation. Jo HyeonSeong (talk) 06:34, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
This article has come a long way; thank you! Some relatively obvious things to improve:
(1) Add a brief narrative in the "Climate" subsection. If you're not sure what to add, have a look at analogous sections in Category:Star articles. (2) Add info about getting in by car to "Get in". (3) Add more eateries and make sure all of them have at least location and contact information and a description. Opening hours and some price information would be even better. (4) Similarly, create a real listing for Wa-Bar. (5) Add sleep listings. (6) Add "Go next" recommendations with 1-liner listings.
These suggestions are not exhaustive, nor is it up to only one person to do all the work in a given time frame. You started the article, but it belongs to everyone, and everyone who can help improve it should feel encouraged to do so.
Many of these points may be relevant to many other articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:00, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Xisuux: thank you for your work have made to this article. Here are some ways you can make it better:

  1. the first paragraph of an article should explain why a reader would want to visit a place. What makes it interesting, beyond just that it is a resort town?
  2. We know that the places listed are in Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, because the article is called "Gwangju". In English Wikivoyage, it is incorrect to include the city name in addresses in listings, unless the listing is in a different city (i.e., not in Gwangju).
  3. In South Korea articles, we always use the 24-hour clock (09:00-18:00), not the 12-hour clock (9AM-5PM). See the box at the top of Talk:South Korea.
  4. We always include the country code in front of phone numbers, i.e., +82

Please make these changes. Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 13:58, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I will check these points and modify the document! Thank you for your feedback. Ysrfield (talk) 06:49, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Ysrfield, Xisuux: please remove "Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do" for the listing addresses. The article is called "Gwangju", which is in Gyeonggi. In English Wikivoyage, it is incorrect to include the city name in addresses in listings. I have asked both of you to do this already. Please fix your errors. Return to "Gwangju (Gyeonggi)" page.
