Split

edit

The content related to Salt Lake City and Rajarhat-New Town is getting increased to the point that the two areas should be separate districts of its own. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 08:29, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry; I thought a reference to Salt Lake City was a stray keystroke. I had no idea there was a Salt Lake City in India! The one I know about is the capital of Utah. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:35, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
The Salt Lake City in Kolkata is actually a nickname of what is officially known as Bidhannagar, as the township was built on the reclaimed salt-water lake. I have created a disambiguation page at Salt Lake for the readers with the inverse situation. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 09:46, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Should I plunge forward and create two new districts, given that it has been 9 days since I have started this discussion? Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 10:50, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
The size of the article is not so big that splitting is necessary. Even twice the amount of listings would not make it necessary (for me). --FredTC (talk) 10:24, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for input. Instead, I'll focus on other methods to manage this district. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 06:16, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Other banner?

edit

Present banner

Suggestion 1

Because "Science City is a major attraction", as already mentioned at the beginning of the article, it might be a good idea to have it in the pagebanner. The present banner just shows buildings that could be found anywhere. My suggestion (1) shows buildings that will not be found elsewhere. FredTC (talk) 11:03, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I prefer banner 1. Looks very interesting. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:05, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

New Town district

edit

I had previously talked about splitting the Salt Lake (Bidhannagar) and New Town sections into own districts. However, FredTC said such a split is not necessary, since the number of listings was low. However, the number of listings has increased since then, and the physical size of this district is also large. Considering the New Town section is rapidly developing, and there are ample attractions that merit for a separate article, I've gone ahead and created a district article on it. I think you should have waited for a consensus, but I trust you. However, Kolkata#Districts and the accompanying map need to be updated. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:58, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I have to wait for a consensus if it were one of the very popular cities widely visited by users but considering the lower pageviews of many Indian cities like this, I thought plunging forward is the better option for Indian cities unless someone opposes to the changes. I'm waiting for a week for any comments from FredTC, and then I'll update the maps to mark the new district as permanent. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 02:40, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree, as a matter of procedure, but I think it's fine, and since you plunged forward, you shouldn't wait a week before making edits that are needed as a result of your unilateral action. Keep in mind, all of this can always be reverted if for some reason a bunch of people come out of the woodwork and demand for that to be done, but just how likely is that? Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:31, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Anyway, a week is passed, and now it's time to update the maps for the new district. Let's look forward with this new district as long as it remains unopposed. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 09:06, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
