Villages

edit

Three settlements on Mull are tiny, and are candidates for merging into others for critical mass:

  • Dervaig was a red link, so I've added content onto nearby Calgary (Scotland). There's a case for doing the reverse, as Dervaig has more about it, but Calgary is the internationally better known name.
  • Bunessan has some facilities, but is basically just a stop on the road to Iona, and I propose merging it into Fionnphort.
  • Lochbuie is beyond small. You can only get there down a lane from Craignure, so I propose merging it there.

I'll leave it till Thurs 6 June for reactions, as I'm offline for the week coming. Grahamsands (talk) 08:56, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

    • Dervaig could be a redirect to Calgary (Scotland). I don't see any point in reversing this.
    • Bunessan is 5 miles Fionnphort, and few visitors would want to visit one without the other, so merging is reasonable, but is not required as each article has a reasonable amount of content.
    • Lochbuie may be very small, but I think that it is too far (15 miles) from Craignure to sensibly merge. I think readers could be confused if Lochbuie listings appeared in Craignure - you wouldn't just pop into the Old Post Office in Lochbuie for a cup of tea before your ferry from Craignure. Whilst everybody visiting Lochbuie will visit Craignure, the converse is far from true. AlasdairW (talk) 18:09, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Agree, Bunessan content migrated and now redirects to Fionnphort, the other two left as is. Grahamsands (talk) 21:19, 6 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

TIC

edit

There are two references to a TIC. What's a TIC? Ground Zero (talk) 03:03, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

TIC = Tourist information cent[re/er]. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
but I think it should be written in full. I've also never heard of a TIC before, but just had to interpret it based on context. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:12, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@SHB2000: thanks. We should definitely not be writing only for people who already know about these places. Ground Zero (talk) 03:37, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Agree. I think it's a common abbreviation in BrE but I'm not a speaker of British English, so I don't exactly know. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 06:23, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cheese farm

edit

cheese farm with cafe. Worth adding? Pashley (talk) 11:17, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

It is already in Tobermory (Scotland) and Scotland. It could be mentionned here, as I think it is the best Scottish hard cheese. AlasdairW (talk) 20:19, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
