London skyscrapers

They're not in the strictest term "novelty", but towers such as the Shard, the Cheesegrater, the Walkie-Talkie and the Gherkin (and its lookalike in Barcelona) are popularly named after the everyday things they supposedly look like. Big towers in Pudong

While I'm thinking about it, the Lipstick Building in New York definitely belongs, and I would also ask whether to include the Chrysler Building, with hood ornaments in place of gargoyles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:05, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

I don't know. I tend to think not, because though Londoners gave the buildings fitting nicknames, they aren't as obviously imitations of those objects as the structures pictured in the article such as the basket, the ketchup bottle and the blue whale. However, the Lipstick Building is expressly built to look like lipstick, so I think it does belong. I'm leaning against considering the Chrysler Building as a whole to be an example of novelty architecture, because while it does have hood ornaments, it doesn't look like a car and is one of the great buildings in the U.S., not just a building with novelty value. Foreigners in Shanghai sometimes call the leftmost of the three towers shown "the bottle opener". All three are over 400m (a quarter mile) tall & are tourist attractions. Pashley (talk) 04:47, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

It looks like I'm incorrect about the Lipstick Building, and it belongs in the exact same category as the Shard, Cheesegrater, Gherkin, etc.: w:Lipstick Building.
