Premature/unnecessary subdivision

edit

With only 17 city articles in Telangana as a whole, it is not likely that subdividing into 10 empty district articles is necessary or helpful. If this state ever does really need subdivision, districts may not be the best way to go; it could probably be better covered with about 3 geographical or cultural divisions than 10 administrative ones. Let's revert this to a bottom level region for now and redirect the districts there, and talk about subdividing when there is a stronger need for it. Texugo (talk) 16:35, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

As of 2022, Telangana has 18 destinations, quite a lot to split the state into two regions. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 18:01, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
A lot has changed in 8 years. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:04, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Dear Texugo, Ikan Kekek and Sbb1413 I think a state like Telangan should be divided into sub-parts.I have divide it into 5 sub-parts, namely: North, East, West, Central and South. I have shared the division below. Do have a look and if you think it is OK do approve. Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 18:03, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
How many articles will there be in each region? Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:30, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Atleast 10 in each section. This is a conservative estimate, some sections will have more.--Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 03:10, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Then you certainly have my blessing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:15, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Ikan Kekek. Sbb1413 we can start making the new articles. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 03:17, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Although I have visited only Hyderabad in Telangana, I'll try my best to create new articles per Wikivoyage:Tips for improving articles on unfamiliar destinations. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 04:37, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
While Osman Sagar is a good tourist spot near Hyderabad, it is not listed in any of the districts of the Hyderabad article and is outside the area covered by the Wikivoyage article. I think Osman Sagar (along with Himayat Sagar, Mrugvani and Ramoji Film City) should either be a district of Hyderabad (Hyderabad/Ranga Reddy) or be a separate rural area (Ranga Reddy). I will opt for the latter and merge Ramoji Film City to the rural area à la Bangalore Rural. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 05:20, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I also agree Ramoji Film City can't be a separate article. Instead of creating an article Hyderabad Rural I would suggest creating separate article like Hyderabad/Suburbs (East), Hyderabad/Suburbs (West). Ramoji Film City will come under East while Osman Sagar will come under West --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 05:52, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Dear Sbb1413, just went to the Ranga Reddy article created by you. Thanks for the article. I think there is no need to creatr articles like Hyderabad Rural or Hyderabad/Suburbs (East). I would suggest merging Ramoji Film City with Ranga Reddy--Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 06:02, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  Done, thank you. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 06:03, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Sbb1413, Wikivoyage articles don't have a info box. Why is it showing in Central Telangana. Can you remove it.--Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 06:13, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sir, I can't understand your statement. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 06:16, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please open the Central Telangana article. The article has a info / index box mentioning cities, other destinations, etc. This comes in wikipedia articles but not in Wikivoyage articles. Why is it coming? and how do we remove it? Ikan Kekek can you help. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 06:22, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is no longer showing. --Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 06:26, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Strange, I can't find such index box mentioning cities, other destinations etc. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 06:29, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hold on a moment. If there are currently 18 articles categorised under Telangana, there will approximately be approximately 3–4 blue links per TS subregion (obviously, this is a rough count and would be the case in a perfect world) and if you're suggesting that there will be ≈10 articles per region, that means that there will be around 6–7 (±1) red links. Unless a solid baseline is created for these articles (i.e. most sections filled out) or if more articles are created, I would oppose this region structure. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 11:03, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
We have started working on it. Lot of articles are missing. Give us some time. Rangan Datta Wiki (talk) 13:04, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I support the proposal. There would be a lot of unnecessary work involved in splitting it to e.g. only 2 subregions and then splitting it again a few months later when the other articles are created and developed. Gizza (roam) 01:52, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Due to the lack of attractions per district/city, I have converted the whole West Telangana into a rural area. Other regions will survive since they all have districts/cities with enough attractions. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 16:29, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Cities and Other destination sections

edit

This state is now subdivided into 5 regions, as shown above, yet there are 14 cities listed in Telangana#Cities. Per Wikivoyage:Avoid long lists, only 9 cities should be listed. Which ones should be removed?

In addition, "Other destinations" is messy. I'd like any that we list to link to articles, so if any of the attractions that don't have their own article merit articles per Wikivoyage:What is an article, whoever starts articles for them will be doing a good service. I will say, though, that I doubt a single temple will merit its own article, and I don't think Ranga Reddy, which seems to be a populated area more than an attraction on other bases, belongs in "Other destinations" at all.
