Talk:Xi'an
Official writing is Xi'an, not Xian. Therefor moved. (WT-en) LiangHH, 04.01.06
- Wikivoyage follows most common name policy, not official name policy. Therefore moved back. (WT-en) Jpatokal 06:53, 4 Jan 2006 (EST)
- Thank you for plunging forward. Before moving this page again please first read Project:Article naming conventions and Project:Why Wikivoyage doesn't use official names. I note that Google gives:
- Xian - 3 million references
- Xi'an - 1.8 million references
- I think Xian is the most common name, though Xi'an is also well known, so both names should be given approximately equal prominence.
- Also there is a bug with having a single quote in a page name that causes page errors. I think the page should be moved back to Xian too because it is more popular and less problematic. Sorry to be a pain, but they are the guidelines. Please discuss as I know this move will be controversial. -- (WT-en) Huttite 07:05, 4 Jan 2006 (EST)
Moved
editI just moved this from Xian to Xi'an. See Talk:Xian for rationale. That page also has various other discussion and was not moved here because this page already existed. Pashley (talk) 08:35, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
Universities
editI moved the list of universities to here, since there was no context belonging to any of them as to where in Xian they are or why you would want to visit. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:49, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Alternative banner for this article?
editI created a new alternative banner for this article (I initially created it first and foremost so that it would be used at the top of the parallel article in the Hebrew edition of Wikivoyage, yet I later decided to also suggest that the English Wikivoyage community would consider using it here as well). So, which banner do you prefer having at the top of this article? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 05:30, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- I prefer the proposed new banner because it is a more iconic view to be found in the city. I would also like the picture to be closer up to the statues if possible. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 06:17, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- The current banner is perfectly good, but I, too, prefer the new one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:35, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- The topic of the new banner is cool, but what about an alternative picture? The one I suggest is a bit clearer. Danapit (talk) 18:35, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes! Danapit's banner was the one I was thinking would look good for Xian :) --Andrewssi2 (talk) 21:55, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes indeed, Dana's is the best. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:18, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Foreigner-concentrated areas in Xi'an
editSince I had been living there until 2019, there was this understanding that foreigners don't go beyond the city wall. It was true, though, that we as the city dwellers hardly saw any foreigners in the "suburbs". So maybe we should consider adding more information of these places... —The preceding comment was added by Theanonymity.de (talk • contribs)
- By all means, provided there are places of travel interest there (normally around the world you will just find things like apartment buildings, hardware stores and generic fast food places in the suburbs of a city and travelers not visiting someone or traveling for business wouldn't be interested in going there). --Ypsilon (talk) 19:27, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
