editHello, Primecoordinator! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. - (WT-en) Huttite 07:37, 24 November 2009 (EST)
- And very nice work on Figueres! --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 10:16, 25 November 2009 (EST)
- Thanks. Hopefully it will be useful to folks in seeing that there's more to Figui than just Dalí. It's a small town, but it's a nice town.
- Nominated Figueres as Destination of the Month a while back, you might want to voice your support :o) --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 10:36, 10 December 2009 (EST)
- Thanks for your updates, but one request. When creating a new article such as Tarragona (province), can you select the appropriate template from the list at the top of the "create new page" screen (in this case "region article")? Having a template for all articles encourages consistency across the site and makes it easier for contributors to figure out what information to place in the different article types. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 10:39, 10 December 2009 (EST)
- Adding to that, Isn't "Terres de l'Ebre/Tarragona" and "Costa Brava/Girona" overlapping regions? we strive to avoid having any ambiguity over which region a destination belongs in, so if I understand the current hierarchy correctly we should either go with the current Catalonia regions or the provinces, yeah? --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 10:56, 10 December 2009 (EST)
- Stefan, that was would a be difficult for them to overlap as Barcelona Province is between them and if it is listed somewhere as such, it's extremely incorrect, like saying that New York and Maryland overlap. And as for breaking down Catalonia, using arbitrary regions is crazy as they change and are redefined. Scrap those. They're designated by real estate developers and out of date tour books. The best way for localization is to use the very well-defined provinces of the Autonomous Region of Catalonia and then if you want to be even more accurate, use the comarcas (counties). And Ryan, sorry about that. I didn't have a chance to look around for the correct template and was more concerned with just banging the data in to a bit better shape than it was.
- Well what I meant to say was - isn't Costa Brava and Girona pretty much the same thing? but anyway, we are a travel guide, which means we often use the regions of the national tourist organisation, guide books or the likes. While I do see your rationale, I think Costa Brava at least here in Denmark, is much more telling to most people than Girona province. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 18:09, 10 December 2009 (EST)
- No, Costa Brava and Girona are not the same thing. Costa Brava ends a good 30km from Girona the town, but is a part of the Girona Province. I'm actually rather offended by that remark unless you were joking. It's like saying, "Isn't Denmark just Sweden?" There is a lot more on offer in the Girona Province than just beach and if you categorize it as such, you cut off any travelers who might want otherwise. I mean, there's skiing in the winter here. The "thing" that is Costa Brava is a two month blurt in the middle of the summer and that's it.
- Ah well, not really offended by anyone mixing up Denmark/Sweden/Netherlands, happens so often I'm rather immune to it by now. Anyway, was just trying to suggest it might be sensible to keep the current breakup into a Pyrenees and a Coastal region rather than using the administrative boundaries - since that is how we like to do regions. But if the provinces of Catalonia, are so established that mixing them up is offensive, we probably better not. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 18:55, 10 December 2009 (EST)
- To clarify on templates, when you create a new article there are a series of links on the top of the edit page - just click on the appropriate one and the template will be populated for you; no need to search and look anything up :) -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 18:25, 10 December 2009 (EST)
La Cabaña in Figueres
editSounds very yammie indeed :-) Could you give any price estimates for it, especially as it's about jamon, which is unreasonably expensive even when it's reasonably priced :-) ? --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 11:03, 2 December 2009 (EST)
- I've only glanced at the bills, but it tends to be less than 100€ for four people with a bottle of wine, two bottles of water, a gigantic plate of jamón, cheese, and a stack of pa amb tomaquet. Can't tell you how much less, but it generally seems reasonable and that price is for the pata negra.
- I've added "avg bill 25eur per person" to that listing; feel free to fix if that estimate is not correct enough. --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 12:29, 3 December 2009 (EST)
- Yeah, I updated it just a bit to show the range.
Figueres map
editJust to let you know that I have not forgotten. Sadly, the OpenStreetMap coverage of Figueres is terrible. Google Maps is fantastic but I really cannot go copying that for obvious reasons. So I am trying to cobble together a map from yours and the meagre OSM coverage. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 11:58, 19 March 2010 (EDT)
- Please see Talk:Figueres#Map. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:41, 20 March 2010 (EDT)
- Very cool. Just let me know when it comes about. Not surprising that the OSM is non-existent. Very little has been about for this town.
- Errr.... see Talk:Figueres#Map :). --(WT-en) Burmesedays 11:57, 21 March 2010 (EDT)
