Your work is valued

edit

Hi. I have to go offline now for a good part of the day. I just want to affirm to you that your work is valued. For all of us, there was a learning curve when we started posting here, but more experienced regulars are here to help you. Please don't get discouraged and keep making edits and suggesting things. Thanks.

All the best,

Thank you for that. It's just a little frustrating at times having so many people working on one page, while at the same time not seeing many people do edits. I admit I haven't visited the page in a while, but it seems that every time I visit, someone has added more clutter, with not enough people caring for the page's structure and appearance... But I'll take your advice and wait for a while to see what happens. Thanks for the kind words. MeriadocTargaryen (talk) 12:55, 30 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Certainly.
Multiple edits of varying quality is a good description of what happens on Wikimedia sites. You are always welcome to post about problematic clutter on the article's talk page and ask for help from others. You are also always welcome to revert edits you consider harmful, with an explanation in your edit summary. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:46, 30 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Districting cities

edit

How are you, MeriadocTargaryen? Thanks for continuing to edit this site.

I saw that you started a separate page for a district of Belgrade. If you believe the traveler reading this site would benefit from Belgrade being districted (divided into separate districts, each one with an article on this site), the procedure is to propose a series of districts with defined borders on the talk page of the city - in this case, Talk:Belgrade. You would then have to wait to see if a consensus develops in favor of your proposal. Only if it does should district articles be started. As it is, the Belgrade Stari Grad article, as an article for a single district that was not discussed on Talk:Belgrade, should be merged back into Belgrade and turned into a redirect to the Belgrade article. If a scheme for dividing the entire city into districts is approved by consensus, the redirect can always be turned back into an article.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

All the best,

Hi Ikan Kekek, the The problem with dividing Belgrade into districts is that not everyone agrees on how the divide ought to be made. Belgrade has 17 municipalities but only a couple (I would say up to 7) are considered "urban Belgrade" over here. Furthermore, most of the major attractions are found only in Stari Grad, Vračar, Savski Venac, and perhaps Zemun municipalities. I of course would like to follow protocol and if that calls for a consensus of editors of the 'Belgrade' page, so be it. What concerns me is that there aren't that many people contributing to the page and I don't think anyone can predict how long it would take to actually start creating more content in the different district pages. The main reason I wanted to start 'Belgrade Stari Grad' is to declutter the lists on the main 'Belgrade' page, which I think you mentioned once as an option... So, what do you propose now? I have no problem contributing to the 'Belgrade' page with information about Stari Grad, however the long lists of hostels etc. will still remain a part of one page, a kind of disorganized list, don't you think?

You can propose a districting scheme in which the municipalities you mentioned have separate articles and then there's an article for the Rest of Belgrade (but I hope it's under another name), as long as the rest of Belgrade is geographically contiguous. But you can't start district articles unilaterally, without any discussion or consensus. People are generally encouraged to plunge forward on this site, but when the edits effect the existing breadcrumb hierarchy, discussion and consensus are needed. In the meantime, there is nothing preventing you from creating separate subsections for each part of the city within the major sections of the Belgrade article, so that for example, "Sleep" listings in Stari Grad can be in a single subsection. There we go. Hopefully we'll be able to generate some discussion. Just to clarify, if no one responds, the 'Belgrade' page will remain as it is and there will be no additional district pages, correct? MeriadocTargaryen (talk) 12:48, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Fortunately, that's no longer a concern. :-) Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:24, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
