Don't tout
editHello, Trailblazer101! Thank you for contributing to Wikivoyage, but please note that one or more of your recent edits has been reverted as it appeared to be an attempt to use this site to advertise or promote a business or service. Wikivoyage is created by travellers for travellers, and while business owners and employees are welcome to contribute, use of this site for promotional purposes is not allowed.
If you feel that your edits were incorrectly identified as promotional, please read Wikivoyage's guidelines on identifying promotional edits. If, after reading that guideline, you still feel your edits were incorrectly removed, please use this talk page or the talk page of the article where your edit was removed to explain why your change was not promotional. Note that it is very important that you discuss your proposed change before re-adding it since repeated promotional edits can lead to a temporary block of your account's ability to edit Wikivoyage, and in serious cases the business in question may be blacklisted from Wikivoyage.

- I am in no way affiliated with the business in question. I was merely adding a way for readers to navigate to another item using the "Glass onion" name, for my newly created disamb page for that term on the English Wikipedia. I find the assumption that I was doing so to "tout" a business to be rather insulting, given my long record of contributions to the English Wikipedia. But I digress. If the use of a redirect or anchor were of issue, that would be fine, and I am willing to comply with discussions about re-instating my good faith edit, as I find it to have been reverted under false pretenses. - oh no, I can assure you, it was reverted in good faith, under no false pretenses. This is not Wikipedia. Kindly get to read our WV:Tone and Don't tout policies. We don't use "anchors" in Wikivoyage (I had never heard about this piece of code until now, really), and this type of redirect here implies favoritism of a business, i.e. touting, oh yes. Don't feel insulted. We WV admins work on high-strung status, reverting everything that feels like touting, spamming and vandalism, on sight. Ibaman (talk) 17:05, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- I see. I was merely attempting to offer up a way to direct readers to another subject of the same name. This really isn't my place of work, and I see now that I have a lot more to digest if I were to continue here. My apologies for my initial reaction. I did not mean to come off in my edits as having "favoritism", and things do operate differently. It's all okay then. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:10, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- [Two edit conflicts:] Welcome to Wikivoyage, but why would I have any reason to know what your track record is on another site? Furthermore, Wikipedia disambiguations about the name of a business are irrelevant to Wikivoyage. And since a business with extremely few exceptions (on the order of Disneyworld, a privately-owned resort which is a huge travel destination) will never get its own article on this site per Wikivoyage:What is an article, you should understand why creating a redirect for a business's name would be seen as touting here. Please read Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians, so that you can understand some basic ways in which this travel guide differs from its encyclopedic sister site. Sorry for your rough introduction to this site, and please feel free to ask questions by typing another reply below or posting to the Travellers' pub (our analogue to Wikipedia's Village Pump) after you've read any of the links I've given you.

- [Later edit:] Don't worry, we accept your good faith explanations.
- All the best,
- Also, your work here is welcome, and don't worry too much if something else is reverted. Now that we know more about you, you are less likely to get rough treatment (although some admins might not see this page, but anyway, all of us get reverted sometimes). - I appreciate your kind words and directions. I get fairly defensive of my edits, no thanks to handling on Wikipedia, but we all are just doing our duties here. I'll make sure to take a look and read through the links you've kindly provided me, and I thank you for your time and understanding. Cheers! Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:16, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
