Tremej
Hello Tremej! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:
- NPOV → be fair (not quite the same thing!)
- be bold → plunge forward
- Village pump → travellers' pub
- External links → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.
- sandbox → graffiti wall
- stub tagging → Article status
It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!--Ypsilon (talk) 20:29, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Lake Como Poetry Way
editWhat better way to start on Wikivoyage? Excellent work!
(Though if you don't mind, you should rewrite the sentence in 'Understand', because it doesn't really make any sense.)
I sincerely look forward to seeing more of your edits.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 20:22, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for your message and for the welcome greetings. I am not a native english speaker (although I have finished my high school studies in Australia...), so any suggestion of what is unclear or any English revision of the page is more than welcome. I have rewritten the suggested sentence, I hope it is better now.
- Furthermore, one request. On the Italian version of the itinerary, in the introduction section I have this sentence (here translated):
- The Lake Como Poetry Way is part of the project Passeggiate Creative, promoted by the local cultural association Sentiero dei Sogni, with the aim of discovering, or re-discovering, the surrounding places through characters and/or events that have characterised them. The proposed itineraries are half/one day trips that through the common thread of the arts (poetry, literature, cinema, music) lead to the discovery of the territory through its genius loci.
- Since I am a beginner here on the English wikivoyage, I would like to know if it is fine to put such a sentence in the intro. On the Italian wikivoyage I received the ok from the admins, however since I know that rules may be different here I first prefer to check.
- My intention is to put both on the Italian and English wikivoyage more itineraries linked with this project. I participate to these walks and they are a great way to discover the territory not only for tourists but also for locals. From here the idea to put them on wikivoyage in order to be available for all.
- Thanks and kind regards. --Tremej (talk) 16:05, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- I can now understand what that sentence means, so that's certainly an improvement ;) Don't worry about your English, as the general standard of translation is good, and there are plenty of people here who can correct errors if needed. Translation from your mother tongue into a second language is always harder than the other way around.
- Absolutely, please do link those websites; I see that Passeggiate Creative has some sort of relationship with Wikimedia Italy, which you are presumably heavily involved with, and one of our goals at Wikivoyage is to collaborate with local tourism authorities. In this vein, we would definitely welcome with open arms more itineraries from the same project, if you are willing and able.
- The most important thing is that the links are supplementary to having the information contained within Wikivoyage, rather thanks redirecting readers away from Wikivoyage, but that shouldn't be an issue here.
- I would also add that the information about the itinerary's background is more appropriate for the 'Understand' section, rather than the intro.
- Two other project pages you will find helpful are Wikivoyage:External links and Wikivoyage:Tour, which are probably similar to policies on Italian Wikivoyage, but there might be some differences.
- Hope you have a good evening, and if you're still in Lombardy look after yourself. Regards, ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 18:50, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
