Nashville Limo Addition

I was the one who added the limousine (Grand Avenue) listing in the Nashville article. It was a mistake that I had not signed in, and I have made other edits to Nashville. I don't work for them, and I have heard they are high quality from people who would know. Can we get it back on? —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) Saxonjf (talkcontribs)

We've had a lot of trouble with limo companies advertising on the site before, and since limo service is of limited use to most travelers we've generally just ended up removing them. If the company you added really is commonly used by travelers in Nashville please go ahead and restore it, but make sure you also restore the company that was there originally that you removed, or at least provide a reason why you are removing it. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 00:11, 4 January 2011 (EST)

Chicago's winters

The original average January high of 29 in Chicago was waaay erroneous. The normal January high temp in Chicago is 12 and the normal low is -5. Also, there is no way for any city to be fully prepared for an ice storm, especially as long as utility lines are strung on poles or on any type of elevated mounting that causes the wires to hang freely above the ground instead of the wires being laid underground. More info on ice storms can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_storm --(WT-en) Zxcde 11:04, 4 January 2011 (EST)

Sedona

I ate at the Coffee Pot Restaurant three months ago and it was doing good business; are you sure it's closed? (WT-en) LtPowers 17:12, 19 January 2011 (EST)

Before originally marking the article patrolled I did a search for "Coffee Pot Sedona" to make sure the anon was removing closed restaurants, and I got this result which says "Cee Dee Jamaican Kitchen opened May 15 in the former Duke’s Coffee Pot Cafe at 1070 N. Swan Road.". Looking at that more closely it looks like a different restaurant, so based on your experience I've restored the listing (sorry for the confusion). The URL for the other restaurant that was removed [1] didn't work, so I'm assuming that one is definitely OK to remove. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 19:23, 19 January 2011 (EST)
Yeah that one's in Tucson, many many miles from Sedona. The one in Sedona is named after the Coffee Pot rock, a rock formation just north of the restaurant. As for D'Lish, their new web site is http://www.dlishvegetarian.com/, and from the looks of it they have indeed closed their physical location in Sedona. Ho Chi Minh City (Eat)

Hi Ryan, you recently deleted a couple of Eat listings:

  • Villa Romaine [2] Part of the Thao Dien Village complex, which is located at 195 Nguyen Van Huong Street, Thao Dien Ward, Dist. 2, ☎ +84 8 374 4645. High quality Italian food. 15 min by taxi from District 1 (or 7 min by boat) and is on the banks of the Saigon River.
  • Halal@Saigon [3] 30 Dong Du Street, D1, is opposite to the Indian Jamia Mosque, near Sheraton Hotel. ☎ +84 8 3824 6823. Halal@Saigon offers Vietnamese and Malaysian cuisine.

Your edit note mentions "copyedit per Wikivoyage:Don't tout - one listing only". I am thinking this may have been a mistake but I do not want to revert your edit in case there is something going on that I have missed. They do not appear to be repeated nor exceedingly touty.

I do note though that Villa Romaine and Water Puppet Show at Ngon Restaurant share a phone number.

  • <do name="Water Puppet Show at Ngon Restaurant" alt="" address="95 Nguyen Van Huong Street, Thao Dien Ward, Dist. 2 " directions="" phone="+84 8 374 4645" email="" fax="" url="" hours="" price="">Every saturday at 7:30PM there is a traditional Vietnamese water puppet show on the riverside outdoor terrace of Ngon Restaurant in District 2. This is a traditional Vietnamese experience nobody should miss. The show is located about 15 min by taxi from District 1 (all taxi drivers will know the address) and is well worth the trip.</do>

Cheers -- (WT-en) felix 22:56, 17 February 2011 (EST)

The same user edited all of these listings, and the URL is the same as one of the resort listings. The addresses differ, but given that this user seems to be adding lots of duplicates I may have been a bit heavy handed in copyediting. If you know the city feel free to restore as you see fit. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 23:08, 17 February 2011 (EST)
I have no special knowledge of the destination, hence my reluctance to mess with your edit. Certainly Villa Romaine appears to be part of the 'resort' and is clearly promoted as an in-house restaurant so you are quite correct. I am thinking that the Water Puppet show should probably get the axe as well for the same reasons. It appears to just be a decent quality resort with some good restaurants (and a puppet show) and they should all just go under a single Sleep-Splurge listing..
  • On the website they state "Thao Dien Village is a haven for food lovers. We have four restaurants to choose from. Ngon, Vietnamese fine dining, the romantic Villa Romaine, Chaba Thai, and Tama-Gawa Sushi Bar. On request we can organize private parties at any of our restaurants." 195 Nguyen Van Huong St., Thao Dien Ward, Dist. 2, HCMC. Tel: (84.8) 3744.6457 Fax: (84.8) 3744.6458 Email: hotel@thaodienvillage.com
Halal@Saigon seems to be an entirely separate operation and I think someone has made a mistake with the URL. I finally tracked them down at http://www.halalsaigon.com/ and they are a Malaysian operation set up by some guy called Dr Shimi. On that basis I will put the Halal@Saigon listing back in with an edit to fix the errors asI am assuming the only reason you deleted Halal@Saigon was the common URL.
I have consolidated the Thao Dien hotel, the 4 restaurants and the water puppet show (trying not to LOL now) into one listing under Thao Dien Village. Run your eyes over it and make sure it seems OK-obviously edit if you think required. Cheers -- (WT-en) felix 12:48, 18 February 2011 (EST)

Split-apartment booker

Hi Ryan, there is a new apartment booking service listing at Split. They have a street address and phone number in Split (although they forgot the street number) and seem to be offering more than a cyber booking service. Split seem to have a few apartment listings already, indeed there is an article section. It looks fairly legit so I tidied up the detail and left it there my edit note reads -- (→Mid range - add to and clarify detail for apartment booking service, correct ph number error, provide street number and email address--bit borderline). As per my edit note I feel it might be a bit borderline. What do you think? Cheers -- (WT-en) felix 12:37, 5 March 2011 (EST)

Officially any apartment/rental listings must first be discussed on the article's talk page, and there must be some consensus to include an apartment listings section in the article, although in cases where such listings aren't being abused I think most editors here tend to look the other way. In the case of Split it may be OK, but if that section gets out of hand then it can be removed unless someone wants to argue for its inclusion on the article talk page. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 13:49, 5 March 2011 (EST)
Thanks Ryan that pretty much concurs with my feelings on that listing in the context of that article but I do understand that it is a sensitive issue at times. Thanks for your opinion. It seems like a relatively calm article and I see no evidence of the apartment issue either having been discussed or being problematic at this time. I will just leave it in as per my tidying up edit, cheers -- (WT-en) felix 15:57, 5 March 2011 (EST)

Talk Page deletions

Hi Ryan, Please revert your changes to the Pitcairn talk pages. If you need the reasons please email me for a copy of the relevant court order. Wikivoyage is not above the law. I suggest you and I would save a lot of our time on this matter if Wikivoyage had someplace to deliver court orders of this sort. I strongly suggest you start standing up for the small guys of the web by recognizing the issue of cyber-harasment and allowing the courts to sort out who is right and who is wrong. You are not the judge of this issue, but simply a enthusiastic web editor, this is why we have developed a court system in the western world where everyone gets their say and the Judge makes his/her decision. Please do not put yourself above the law.

Regards, Islandboy1

Wikivoyage has well-defined guidelines for talk pages, and you are welcome to present a rebuttal argument to anything on this site that you see as unfair or factually inaccurate. Discussion, rather than censorship, is a key tenet of the collaborative approach that makes a wiki work. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 15:34, 10 March 2011 (EST)
In every culture there are limits to free speech - yours included, otherwise those willing to tell the biggest lies and with the loudest voices would win any argument. Not a place I would want to live. When I am the subject of blackmail or harassment I do not counter this by harassing my persecutor or by blackmailing them back - or even standing in the middle of the road and shouting abuse at them - but this is what you are condoning in your argument - In the South Pacific we call this rule by the arrogant and aggressive - and it is definitely not part of our culture. How about some cultural sensitivity. I am a liberal, but I assure you that there are limits to all things, and your condoning of cyber-harrassment is destroying the very web that you obviously cherish - not to mention destroying peoples lives. We need a open, informed, and civilized debate on the web - not a shouting match. It should not a place for blackmail attempts and cyber-harassment - but unfortunately it is - as I, and many other victems like me have come to find out. Do not put yourself above the law, we train and pay lawyers and judges to settle disputes of this kind, this is not your role in society - how could you possibly make a judgment of this kind when you do not have the facts of the case - to do so would be arrogant the extreme - please read my non-molestation order - you want an informed debate, how about starting there. Islandboy1
Fascinating, yet totally irrelevant to the content in question. I'll add that no contributor to this site, including Wrh2, are legal representatives of IB; and to the best of my knowledge, IB has no holdings that would be within Pitcairn Islands jurisdiction. Whatever your problem is, this isn't the right venue for it. -- (WT-en) D. Guillaime 21:35, 10 March 2011 (EST)
Actually this is the right venue, as wikivoyage has no system to take in (and hopefully act on) court orders. In my opinion Wikivoyage will rapidly become a "dog eat dog" world if it stays outside the jurisdiction of the courts. I suggest you avail yourself of the facts of this case. The kangaroo courts of the middle ages worked like wikivoyage - ie made judgments without knowing the circumstances of the situation. By condoning cyber-harassment on wikivoyage you much degrade wikivoyages credibility. So Mr Guillaime, "what would you do to defend yourself and your family from blackmail and harassment dished out on the pages of wikivoyage ?" I really want to know - and to give you a hint, I will not lower myself to use the tactics of those harassing me. I am proud to live in a civilized society where I/we trust the courts to sort out harassment cases such as this. A dog eat dog world is not a place I want to raise my children. Islandboy1
You've already been informed of IB's contact information - which you should appreciate as a courtesy, since it's trivially found public knowledge. Presumably you can consult with competent legal counsel from there. Meanwhile, just as soon as I see you subjected to any harassment or blackmail here, I'll let you know... but at the moment all I see from you are unprovoked threats, which reflect far more badly on your company than anything already here. -- (WT-en) D. Guillaime 22:44, 10 March 2011 (EST)
I've responded at Talk:Pitcairn Islands#Do not delete talk page comments. As has been stated repeatedly, Wikivoyage has a clear procedure for resolving these sorts of disputes - if the complaints against your company really are false then it should be very easy for you to provide a counter-argument, but understand that deleting comments and similar actions are likely not to be productive. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 23:03, 10 March 2011 (EST)

I'm afraid the template you point out doesn't include a "By foot" section. My correction was purely linguistic, to me it just sounds odd to say "by foot". --95.17.151.222 19:53, 11 March 2011 (EST)

Project:Huge city article template has no less than five standard sections such as "By car", "By boat", etc. It's pretty clear that the standard is "By method of transportation", and yes, I agree that it sounds odd. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 13:44, 12 March 2011 (EST)

Whistler listing revert

Hi Ryan, just wondering why you reverted this edit [4]. I checked the HI Whistler page and it looks like the listing from the IP is correct. I'll check it out (and what happened to the old location) when I'm up in Whistler in a couple of weekends but I just wanted to check in with you before I undid your revert. Cheers. (WT-en) Shaund 21:33, 16 March 2011 (EDT)

Unless I'm mistaken the edit I reverted simply changed the order of the listings so that they are no longer alphabetical - did I miss something??? -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 22:42, 16 March 2011 (EDT)
There was a change of address too -- it looks like they moved over the summer. I'll just fix it up with the new address and description. (WT-en) Shaund 23:33, 16 March 2011 (EDT)

Northeast Washington

Hello Ryan. Thanks for your comments regarding the renaming of a Washington State region to "Northeast Washington." At the time, I tried to find the "move" tab, but it was missing. As I haven't done this on Wikivoyage in many years, I was thinking the move tabs were only on Wikipedia. After reading your comments, and looking into this further, I think the problem was being logged out unknowingly. That seems to make the "move" tab disappear. I did log back in before saving, but that's happened many times before, and I didn't think anything of it.

I'm going to go back and redo the name change so the edit history follows the page. The discussion about it is a few years old, and its original name "Rocky Mountains (Washington)" was never debated or explained at all. The first person to propose all the regions came up with it, and somehow it was never changed. The problem is Wikipedia and other sources clearly indicate the Rocky Mountain range does not extend westward into Washington State. There are two different smaller mountain ranges in this region, but their names are not widely known.

Hi Ryan, whoops, I thought vietnamtransferservice.com rang a bell but recalled them from a different article. I recall they also multiple listed elsewhere but maybe it was at Ho Chi Minh City. Hi Ryan, as you have recently performed some edits on the Nusa Lembongan article perhaps you might like to give your opinion on a recent edit I have made there. Over time I have been growing a little concerned at the apparent incremental acquisition of other listings by one operator Victory Shine. Although it is of course quite possible that all the now 9 properties are becoming consolidated under single ownership or management control the operators have not been leaving edit notes or explanation on the article discussion page. Email addresses show multiple anomalous issues as do phone and fax numbers. I have given a fairly thorough explanation of this on the article discussion page. Perhaps you could look it over an let me know if you think the action is appropriate. They may have their own perfectly good reasons for using a mix of yahoo and gmail email addresses rather than their own domain name based email address, and their own reasons for not listing all of their properties on their own website however quite frankly I think they are having a lend of us. I hope my recent direct contact with them and subsequent edits to 8 of the 9 listings may motivate some explanation from them. Perhaps you could look it over an let me know if you think the action is appropriate. Although tempted to just move all 9 listings across to the discussion page perhaps we need to consider that is potentially prejudicial to the genuine operators should some of these be hijacks. -- (WT-en) felix 12:17, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

Hi. I see you have moved the above article. However, there are at least 16 Bergens in Germany, so we may have to rethink the name again in future. --(WT-en) SaxonWarrior 14:01, 6 May 2011 (EDT)

Saw your comment on the article talk page. Germany does have its own official disambiguation system which is even used on road signs e.g. Winsen (Aller). In the case of this particular Bergen, they use "Bergen (Landkreis Celle)" which is not particularly elegant! Most are better than that. I agree we should leave this for now, but I will mention the German system on the convention talk page. --(WT-en) SaxonWarrior 16:20, 6 May 2011 (EDT)

Also note that there hasn't been much support for quickbars for cities in the past, and per the Pub discussion it's an idea that might not yet be supported, so it is probably best to hold off on adding these to any more cities, at least for now. Note that there may be more support for quickbars for high level regions. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 16:02, 19 May 2011 (EDT)

Rhinocarhire dot com

Hi Ryan, I hope it is ok to contact you this way, I was hoping you could please update me on the status of Rhinocarhire dot com on the local spam blacklist. I have updated the thread and would welcome your comments as to how best to progress from this point. Many thanks.

Hi Ryan, I have read your response regarding rhinocarhire dot com on the black list thread and responded accordingly and a little disappointed with the response. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss some of your concerns - can you please advise the most appropriate way to contact you. We are not looking for a recommendation from wiki, merely to be removed from the blacklist as we feel there is no further justification for our inclusion.

With all due respect, from my standpoint I'm not sure there is anything more to discuss. You are welcome, however, to try to convince others that your business should be removed from the blacklist as consensus drives decisions on this site, so I am definitely not the sole gatekeeper to getting your listing removed from the blacklist. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 08:48, 8 June 2011 (EDT)

Can you please explain how consensus works in relation to having sites removed from the blacklist. I have said previously that we have no desire to be promoted on wikivoyage, merely to be removed from the blacklist directory as is potentially damaging to our business. I note this page is locked (understandably) and cannot see that without administrative assistance that we will ever be removed from the list.

I would suggest leaving a message either in the Pub or on Project:Requests for comment asking people to respond to your arguments for blacklist removal at Project:Local spam blacklist#Various Car Hire Agencies. If people don't respond to that request you can make a few repeated requests, but be aware that it's not generally easy to get on the blacklist, but once on it there generally needs to be a pretty strong argument made in order to get off, and I'm not sure that "we're better now" will be sufficient to convince many contributors here. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 10:57, 25 August 2011 (EDT)

Malaysia-related block

Hi, Wrh2. I see you blocked unregistered user 217.115.137.222 for 1 week. Of course, I understand why and sympathize. However, blocking that IP is not likely to be useful, because that IP was used only once. The troll who posts to the Malaysia article uses various IPs (for example: 87.225.253.173, 83.170.92.9, 199.48.147.36, 199.48.147.42, 122.102.100.161, and 74.3.165.39) as you can see from the history[6] of the article (I would speculate that these are different public computers in an internet or computer centre of some kind). So if you want to protect the article from trolling, the only thing to do is bar unregistered users from editing it for a period of time. Meanwhile, 217.115.137.222 should be reinstated because there has been only one post from that IP, and for all I (we?) know, it could be one computer in an otherwise innocent computer centre somewhere.

All the best,

(WT-en) Ikan Kekek 03:05, 27 August 2011 (EDT)

My thought was to just start applying one week blocks for whatever IP posts that garbage since it's been going on for a while, just as we apply 3 month blocks to spambot IP addresses - the user in question has used the same IP address a few times, so my hope is that they may have a limited range of computers that they're using. It's possible that this would snare an innocent user, but the odds are pretty low given the number of IP addresses in the world. As to protecting the article, that's another option but we get a LOT of anonymous edits to the Malaysia article and it would be a shame to lose them due to one persistent troll. That said, I can remove the block if you're concerned - let me know. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 12:35, 27 August 2011 (EDT)
I agree that it's a shame to have to protect an article. If you would like, maintain this block, but if the troll posts from another IP, I think at that point, it would be advisable to lift the block on this IP and protect the article from edits by unregistered users for a period of time. User-created districts

User 78.145.44.147 [7] has been creating a lot of empty India districts. What should we do with them? Redirecting seems logical, but I do not really know the area well enough to judge where to redirect them to. Also, it is a politically sensitive area. That's why I was thinking maybe to just delete them? --(WT-en) globe-trotter 15:35, 28 August 2011 (EDT)

That user is also making politically motivated edits that in no way benefit the traveler. I say delete. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 15:43, 28 August 2011 (EDT)
I'm OK either way - I left a note on User talk:78.145.44.147 asking that any major changes to Wikivoyage's regional structures be discussed first, although I don't hold out much hope of that happening. My initial attempts at redirects were mostly an attention-getting measure, although unfortunately I had to run out before I could finish. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 20:01, 28 August 2011 (EDT)

Buffalo Eats Deletion Explained

I'm new to wikivoyage; and so, I really don't know the in-and-outs yet. Is there a place to explain a deletion without commenting in the actual article? Anyways, here is the reason. The portion deleted asserts that "beef on weck" is pronounced "beef on wick". Well, it's not. A native of Buffalo and having worked throughout the food industry here, I can confidently tell you that no one pronounces it "wick" - and I do mean no one. I've taken orders from literally hundreds of people for this meal, and I have never-ever even once heard anyone pronounce it that way. I don't know from where this misinformation comes, but it is just that: misinformation. Maybe somewhere else in the country people might call it that; but in Buffalo (where the dish originated), it certainly is not pronounced that way. So, my edit stands, and I shall redo it again. (WT-en) BoyBlueSky 21:42, 16 September 2011 (EDT)

I won't claim to be from Buffalo, but I grew up close enough to see beef on weck on menus and hear it pronounced. I didn't write the original phrasing into the article, but I concur with its interpretation of the pronunciation. It is pronounced "wick". It may sound like "weck" to a Buffalonian, but it sounds like "wick" to everyone else. (WT-en) LtPowers 09:04, 17 September 2011 (EDT)

Archiving help

I'm still plodding along at cleaning up the pub cellar, but hit a wall on two discussions. Do you know where we could/should move these? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:26, 29 September 2011 (EDT)

Perhaps Wikivoyage_talk:Technical_details? They both seem related to the underlying Mediawiki software, so that would be a semi-reasonable place for them. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 14:43, 29 September 2011 (EDT)
If I may pick your brain once more—this last one for 2008 has me stumped too, and I don't particularly want to bury it in the cellar. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 17:12, 29 September 2011 (EDT)
Honestly I'm not even 100% sure I understand what that discussion is about :) My first thought is that Template talk:Related would be a good place - it's not exactly what the discussion is covering, but it's a more relevant place then the cellar. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 18:29, 29 September 2011 (EDT)
Works for me. Thanks! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 21:58, 29 September 2011 (EDT)

Is the site screwed up?

Hey, are you still around? Is the site as screwed up for you as it is for me? My recent changes shows nothing until I click on a different number of changes to display, and then it loses my preferences. And the edit box of any edit page has shrunk down to only 2 lines tall. What is going on here?? (WT-en) Texugo 12:21, 18 October 2011 (EDT)

And now, after about 20 minutes of that nonsense, everything suddenly seems to be back to normal. (WT-en) texugo 12:23, 18 October 2011 (EDT)
You may have hit Pub#Preferences Reseting? - a few people (myself included) have seen their user preferences inexplicably reset recently. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 12:36, 18 October 2011 (EDT)

{{vfd}}

Hi Ryan. I occasionally feel compelled to prompt a delete of these things myself as sometimes they do sit there for a while. I am sure you are not at this 24/7 and you appear to be the one who clears a significant volume of this rubbish. I only put the detail on the deletion page as the policy dictates this should be done. I am happy to just apply a {{vfd}} and either blank or delete the content is it is obnoxious or silly enough to justify it. If my efforts in doing this are creating extra work for you (or someone else) in clearing the {{vfd}} then let me know and I will just leave them there. Likewise if I do not need to detail the {{vfd}} on the deletions page then I am happy not to. I recall Ikan complained about me doing that just after he got admin buttons as maybe he just thought I was posting them there for no reason. It only creates extra work for me if I list them on the deletions page when they are so obviously spam. As you are aware I do not have admin access here so I cannot delete them myself, otherwise I would be pleased to do so. Just let me know if I should just ignore articles and user pages containing spam and other rubbish completely as I would rather not do it at all if it is not useful to the project. Frankly I would rather just watch birds flying past my window than unnecessarily spend my time detailing reasons to delete a penis enhancement spam page. Also I do not really need any extra opportunities to bear further subtle chiding and derision from a few fellow editors here who apparently think some of my activities on WT are less than appropriate. Your advice on the {{vfd}} thing would be appreciated. -- Thanks, and do keep up the tireless work dealing with the spam and other garbage that occasionally appear here. -- 00:51, 9 November 2011 (EST)(WT-en) felix

Hi Felix - I responded at Project:Deletion policy#VFD required for new pages created that are spam. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 02:18, 9 November 2011 (EST)
Thanks Ryan, I will ensure that I only touch them is they have been up for over 24hr. I will continue to assume it is correct to list the detail on the deletions page if I apply a {{vfd}} unless you advise otherwise. I do appreciate the clarification.
What should I do if I come across something that is really astoundingly offensive, should I just leave it, or should I blank it and apply a {{vfd}}. If so then I am back in a circle unless I then list it on the deletions page. Should I just ignore it even if it is something really over the top. The world will certainly not stop turning if something stays there for an extended time but I would like to do something about it if it is something really nasty. Penis enhancements and drug promotions are stupid but fairly benign, I mean something obviously very extreme and highly inappropriate.-- (WT-en) felix 02:39, 9 November 2011 (EST)
Hi Felix - you're of course welcome to blank spam pages and nominate them if you'd like. The only reason I raised this issue is because I was concerned that time was being spent tagging and nominating pages that were just going to be deleted on sight as soon as the next admin logged on and saw them, and i wanted to point out that such nominations really weren't necessary. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 10:31, 9 November 2011 (EST)
Hi Ryan, I thought that is what you were intimating, though I am not entirely sure what a couple of the other comments from others were hinting at. I will not bother doing it then unless I find them lost back in the histories or they are astoundingly offensive in some way. Your own comments and feedback on this has been, as always, quite clear and succinct and thanks for the further clarification. As I cannot see your background admin process on the deletions I was concerned I was actually adding to the workload somehow with the {{vfd}} and that would be a most unfortunate outcome, and unintended. Thanks again for the clarity.-- (WT-en) felix 01:30, 10 November 2011 (EST)

Mandarmani hijackers-the Bengal cowboys

Hi Ryan, could you have a look at a note titled Mandarmani hijackers-the Bengal cowboys that I left over at Mr Ikan's Talk page. It is about the Bengali cowboys and you might like to take a look. -- cheers -- (WT-en) felix 07:22, 15 November 2011 (EST)

I'll keep an eye on it and will blacklist the URL if I see it come up many more times. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 10:42, 15 November 2011 (EST)::Ikan just whacked him again at Mandarmani doing this. Slipping this into the lead paragraph of the article
  • '''Mandarmani''' (or ''Mandarmoni'',http://www.hotelinmandarmani.in ''Mandarbani'') is a beach resort in [[Southwest Bengal]] in [[India]].

Time for some depth charges I think. -- (WT-en) felix 11:03, 15 November 2011 (EST)

:it spam

Yes, it would definitely be helpful for you to have admin tools on it, especially as I am going to be wandering around W Africa for the next month. I leave on the 27th, so lets get that nomination nailed down before then. In the meantime, I'll have a look to see what I can do in cleaning up. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 17:15, 16 November 2011 (EST)

Done - wts:Project:Administrator nominations#User:Wrh2. I am jealous of all your travels - I've got three-day business trips to Boise to look forward to... -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 17:27, 16 November 2011 (EST)
I'm not sure Boise's best foot is put forward in the winter... But I do recall you like cold destinations ;)
Cleaning up is like pulling your own teeth when the site is so slow. I'll do just a little each day to avoid losing my mind. The obvious solution to this problem, of course, would be to enable CAPTCHA for a basically dead language version. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 17:33, 16 November 2011 (EST)
If you feel like exercising a gross abuse of your bureaucratic powers and granting me preliminary admin rights I'll do some cleanup - my day today is a maddening series of write code - start compile - stare blankly out of the window - finish compile - repeat, so I've got some time. And Boise in the winter... yeah. Not as many penguins and caribou as I'd prefer. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 17:42, 16 November 2011 (EST)
Consider them grossly abused. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 18:08, 16 November 2011 (EST)
51 reverts and 33 deletes later things look a bit better. Unfortunately the history of a few topics now contain hundreds or even thousands of spam revisions, but unless there's a way of purging specific revisions I suppose there's nothing to be done for that. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 20:55, 16 November 2011 (EST)
Well, we could delete the page and then restore the edits, de-selecting each spam revision manually. We could also plan a Get-together in Lagos. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 21:28, 16 November 2011 (EST)

Middle East and Turkey

I am simply adding my comments on the article on its discussion page. Turkey should be classified as in Europe rather that Middle East. If you classify it in Middle East, please kindly remove it from European Region. Please kindly do not duplicate. And I added my "strong" feelings on the issue to its discussion page. --(WT-en) Nitrium Talk

And here is my message on the discussion board.

"it gives an political Message, MiddleEast is created to mention a region in political aspect. MiddleEast should not be used in terms of Travel. When you group Turkey to the MiddleEast, you give a rough message that Turkey is a country like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan, Egypt, which is totally false. Turkey implements secularism, democracy, Swiss model, and all European standards. Only because of having a Muslim majority in Turkey, you classify Turkey to be in such a region. Isn't this a prejuidice? If it is ok with talking in terms of Travel, please kindly put Cyprus, and Greece to the same region, which are close to the region --Nitrium Talk 00:40 11 December 2011 (EST) "
