Gosford a city, district, region?

edit

Gosford and Wyong are the two areas (city and shire) that make up the central coast.

When structuring the region, we have a few options.

  1. Just have one article for the Central Coast (New South Wales). Build it up to be a comprehensive reference for the area
  2. Let Wyong and Gosford be two regions under the central coast. Build them up as destination articles, and perhaps develop one or two sub-articles that tend to be major tourist destinations
  3. Let every suburb of the Central Coast develop its own article. If there is someone prepared to develop the content, why not?
  4. Let the Central Coast contain the regional information. Develop Gosford, Wyong, The Entrance, and other popular destinations as their own articles. Ignore Gosford and Wyong as regions, and just treat them as suburbs/towns like any other.

I'm in favour of option 2. This is like the Illawarra region is developing, with the three cities ot Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama making up the region of the Illawarra. In this way, Wyong and Gosford would make up the Central Coast (New South Wales), with additional destination articles only added when the content justifies them. --(WT-en) Inas 01:52, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

I saw this 6 years too late :)
I went already for Option 4, since quite a few articles have already been created prior to my looking at this. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 01:27, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merge all towns breadcrumbed under Central Coast and merge them here?

edit

Quite a big task, and I don't know how to explain it, although I'll do my best as I can.

Into about CC

The Central Coast is quite a little bit of a weird situation. It's not really a city, but rather just numerous towns that make up these large area. But this isn't like your ordinary region, because these towns essentially function like suburbs, except that they're not because of the tiny 1km stretch of greenery between some of them (can go up to 5km). I can't even think of any other region anywhere in the world that functions like the Central Coast. And for some reason, we have an article for these towns.

Proposal

edit

Go Inas' original proposal 1. Have one universal Central Coast (New South Wales) article and treat this like a city with suburbs. Merge all the contents to this article, and develop only this article. This includes the two centres of Gosford (renamed as "Lower Central Coast" because of this very same issue) and Wyong. It's possible to subdivide this article up in this very page (an example of an existing issue subdivided is Parc national de Kamay Botany Bay on fr).

And to, what to do with this existing article type? Probably change it into city/rural area article as there's no main town here. Because personally, I don't think distrifying this article is worth it.

Problems that can arise with this though:

  • On the New South Wales article, this is currently listed as a region. If this is turned into a city/rural area, I'm not sure what to do, but it'll just be like Norfolk Island.

OTOH, there's much more benefits in my opinion though and that is:

  • Since travellers may be confused by smaller towns not having much, this new article would have much more detail into neighbouring towns

  • I support, as it is already partially merged. Given the geography of small towns near each other in this region, merging into one city or rural area article is sensible. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:27, 24 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • I think this will work better and I support it for now as well. If the overarching Central Coast becomes very long, we can go back to splitting it by towns/suburbs. If there was a main town, it would be Gosford but better to call it the Central Coast, and classify it as a rural article. Gizza (roam) 12:24, 24 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I also didn't mention about Wollemi National Park, but I rather just breadcrumbed it under Blue Mountains given that the only way to enter is via the Blue Mountains despite being part of the Central Coast. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:28, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think national parks ought to be kept as separate articles. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:31, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, all I've done there is just changed where its breadcrumbed under. Not going to merge something 100km away (or 300km via car). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:35, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Done. The only articles now currently breadcrumbed under Central Coast (New South Wales) is Bouddi and Dharug National Parks. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:41, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

UNESCO tag?

edit

Is that there just because of the Great North Road (which is covered in Tourist Drive 33 and Dharug National Park)? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:32, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Gosford

edit

No, I don't support districtification of this article as most settlements have far too little to actually merit their own articles (the two national parks are the exception). Districtification makes no sense. Either there should be separate articles for different towns (villages, whatever) or this should be a bottom-level article. I notice it irregularly has two statuses, as a city guide and a rural area guide. It can't be both, yet it's defined in the lede as a region, yet a third category. I'd say make up your minds whether it's a region or a rural area, and then act accordingly. Region articles are not bottom-level articles but are subdivided into different bottom-level destination articles. And that's the limit of my opinion, as I don't know this area. When I meant districtification, I meant that plus articles for different towns, too. Sorry for not clarifying. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 11:11, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
IP, please give input or I will revert your edits. There is clear community consensus above to have one single Central Coast article. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 22:51, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Given the lack of response, I'm reverting the edits. There is consensus above to keep the articles in one spot. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:00, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
