Charlotte should have a map before it becomes a star article. Now: I do enjoy creating maps but I have never been to Charlotte, and I am hesitant to create maps for places I have not been to and am not familiar with. That said, if no one else wants to do the map(s) I can do it next week.

Again, I am not familiar with Charlotte, but I would propose an overview map of the metro area for the main page and also a detail of Charlotte/Uptown to start with. Does this seem reasonable? What area does the overview map need to cover? Everything within the I-485 ring? If no one else wants to do the map then it would be great if a local could answer the questions I have raised above, and please leave a note on my talk page as I may forget to check back here in a reasonable timeframe. I think that using the 485 loop is a pretty good idea, maybe others would say all of Mecklenburg County would work also. But, I'm not a native, so others may say otherwise. If nobody else says anything, I'd go with inside the 485 loop. (WT-en) Willow 14:06, 2 August 2007 (EDT)

Awesome! edit

Awesome work to all the contributors of Charlotte! It is truely an amazing article! Keep smiling, (WT-en) Edmontonenthusiast 19:16, 27 October 2008 (EDT)

Districts edit

I read here the map was created by an awesome volunteer and wanted to focus on the inner part of the city. I'm hoping to find someone who can help me find what districts exist beyond this middle area. I'd like to know what district the airport is in, for example, which will help the Sleep section get better organized. I checked the official tourist site of Charlotte but the maps didn't go that far west. (WT-en) Zepppep 22:27, 16 November 2009 (EST)

As of now, the areas in light grey are simply not covered by Wikivoyage. I believe User:(WT-en) Bruinsbuddy42 came up with the districts initially, and I created the map based on his guidance here. Back at that time, we didn't have a methodical way of dealing with districts breakdowns (today, it's policy that there should be no gaps left when breaking a city into districts). Long story short, we'll need to come up with a new scheme, based on the existing one, before anyone will be able to answer your question! I'll be happy to help revise the map and work on a new scheme, but I've never been to the city, so my ability to help create a new scheme will be limited. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 15:34, 18 November 2009 (EST)
Thanks for telling me a bit about this. I've gone ahead and put the listings in their district articles as best I know how (thank you Google maps). I created a few new subsections, Airport and Carowinds, but am glad to see the article a bit cleaner now than before I got here. I wouldn't feel too guilty about not expanding the map or naming unknown districts--if the tourism board or those with the know-how haven't bothered to do so, I feel no pain. :) (WT-en) Zepppep 16:21, 18 November 2009 (EST)

Bus Fare Update edit

I just rode Charlotte Area Transit and noted that the new fare for the bus is $1.75, rather than the $1.50 noted on this site. i'd update the article, but cannot do so from my phone's crippled browser. Can I impose on one of you more technologically adept individuals to do it for me? Thanks. (WT-en) TheInfamousJ 10:35, 02 October 2011 (EDT)

Done, thanks for the update! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 14:24, 2 October 2011 (EDT)

The list of universities below isn't actually useful in anyway. I'm keeping here for the time-being. Andrewssi2 (talk) 05:05, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • University of North Carolina at Charlotte UNC Charlotte is a public research university that is home to over 25,000 graduate and undergraduate students. It is the fourth largest university in North Carolina.
  • Johnson C. Smith University - A historically African-American university located just outside Uptown. The centerpiece of the historic Biddleville community, J.C. Smith's campus is a picturesque gateway to the north/west side of the city.
  • Queens University of Charlotte Queens University of Charlotte is a private, coed, masters level university with 2,600 graduate and undergraduate students. It is affiliated with Presbyterian USA.
  • Central Piedmont Community College - CPCC has been a part of the Charlotte landscape for almost 50 years. It has six campuses located throughout Mecklenburg County and serves more than 70,000 students a year.
UNC is a big deal, but the question is, what can a 2-week visitor study there or in any of these other schools? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:32, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
In my opinion, better to list this info than to just leave the section blank. That, or delete the section and list the Universities under "See".wattmetmore 05:02, 14 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's an optional section. If the universities are notable sights, they should be listed in "See". Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:21, 14 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

District discussion edit

There seems to be a rather unsatisfactory and partial subdivision into districts, so let's have the discussion that the main page informs our readers to be taking place here somewhere... Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:05, 3 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Apparently an IP user has taken it upon themselves to create new district articles. Does anybody want to weigh in? Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:46, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've encountered the IP user on some other articles, and they've proven themself to be very knowledgeable about the Charlotte area (bringing Rock Hill up to guide status almost singlehandedly, for instance), though maybe not quite as knowledgeable about Wikivoyage policies. Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with Charlotte to be able to have much of an opinion, but I'm inclined to tentatively trust the IP user's knowledge of what districts make sense from a local perspective. —Granger (talk · contribs) 21:04, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Any further progress? Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:52, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, the IP user hasn't edited since August, and I'm not sure how to proceed with this if we don't have someone who knows the city. User:PerryPlanet has made some significant edits to Charlotte articles in the past—maybe he would like to weigh in? —Granger (talk · contribs) 16:20, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I have good knowledge of the areas and can help. What seems to be unsatisfactory here? Is there a policy or guidelines on district summaries? perhaps compare it to a city which has an exemplary districts section? It does appear that some of the Charlotte district descriptions are short-lived or subjective. Harambee (talk) 18:09, 5 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Harambee: Thanks for joining the discussion! Ideally, we would have a set of districts that cover all of Charlotte with no gaps and no overlap, with defined district borders and a map that shows all of the districts. (Buenos Aires and Chicago are nice examples of good districtifications, and some policy information is here.) In the current districtification, the map only includes some of the districts, and I can't tell if they cover the city with no gaps or overlap. —Granger (talk · contribs) 23:45, 5 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

It looks to me like the city has been fully divided into districts, although the map needs to be updated. (I have made a request at Wikivoyage talk:Mapmaking Expedition.) Should we remove the district discussion template? Ground Zero (talk) 00:40, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

It seems like the only remaining issue is whether West Charlotte should get and will get its own article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:44, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Has anyone proposed that West Charlotte be merged into another district? If so, then I guess we would still have a district discussion going on, but I don't see that proposal anywhere. This looks more like a "requested article" issue than a "district discussion" issue. Ground Zero (talk) 00:50, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
But wouldn't it be the case that either it gets an article, it gets subsumed by another district, or the city's districting is incomplete? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:00, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
This isn't the only big city article with a missing district. My point us that we can drop the template if there isn't active discussion about it. These templates aren't helpful if they are just slapped on and never dealt with. Often, the original motivation for proposing mergers is that the district articles are outlines, and then a few years later they've been filled in, but the template is still there. Ground Zero (talk) 02:07, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I understand. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:58, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
It seems like the map is still missing some of the color codes that are listed below it. Lazarus1255 (talk) 05:18, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
