Breadcrumb hierarchy

I just put it under Europe because that's where Russia is. Do we care that this is now the only region article not under one of our 7 basic continent trees? Texugo (talk) 20:13, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Articles in Other destinations aren't part of the basic continents either. Matter of fact maybe we should move Russia to Eurasia too. The country is culturally part of Europe but 3/4 of it is actually in Asia (east of the Urals). As an extreme example: Chukotka is so far east that it's actually far west ie. in the Western Hemisphere :) . ϒpsilon (talk) 20:27, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

We had a 'kludge' in which Russia (Asia) contained #REDIRECT [[Russia]] {{isPartOf|Asia}}. Create something like Vladivostok {{isPartOf|Russia (Asia)}} and the breadcrumbs actually did fall into place. (See also Talk:Asia#Proposed Eurasia breadcrumb.) Then again, ru: puts their Vladivostok article in Europe because they think culturally it's more European than Asian. K7L (talk) 20:35, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Making decisions based on culture, rather than geography, doesn't make sense. And if Vladivostok is culturally more European than Asian, what do we do with places like Tuva? As far as I know, the kludge thing doesn't actually work - redirects appear in italics in the breadcrumb and do not correctly display any parent regions which precede them. Texugo (talk) 21:55, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

The kludge was based on mw:extension:GeoCrumbs displaying the parent of the redirect instead of the parent of the target article in the breadcrumb trail. That only broke because someone removed the #isin tag from the redirect. K7L (talk) 22:05, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Strong anti-Russian sentiments

We now say "Non-participating states usually have fewer Russian speakers and often have strong anti-Russian sentiments."

Comparing the map in Soviet Union and the list here, the only Post-Soviet states not being part of the CIS are the Baltic ones, Georgia, Ukraine and Turkmenistan.

Are there strong anti-Russian sentiments in Turkmenistan? Russia has waged war on the others, except the Baltic countries, which are a special case. They and the mention why they aren't part are mentioned; I don't think we need to say anything more on the sentiments (which are better handled in the countries' Respect).

Latvia and Ukraine have large Russian minorities. Is that the "often"? Wouldn't it be better to say that Russian is a good language to know in the CIS countries, instead of discussing countries that are not covered?
