Split from UK article

edit
Swept in from the pub

I split this out of the UK article, but would appreicate some assistance from active UK drivers. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:00, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Looking good. I have added a few extra points that non UK drivers may not be aware of. Suggest you link to this from the UK article so more people will find it. --Traveler100 (talk) 19:33, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Massively expanded now, and I would really appreciate some help on the added sections. I'm also considering if there should be a distance, routing table for major destinations. I asked over on the english Wikipedia Desk concerning a possible initial list for this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Humanities#Top_20_Destinations_by_Road_in_the_UK, I initally thought 20 items would cover it, but a figure around 40-50 seems more likely. Is this article needed

edit

I don't understand the purpose of this page.. Can't this all be covered on Britain's page? Ceadeus Slayer Sea of Blood © 20:39, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

We already have things like Driving in China and Driving in Mexico for places where the driving seems really odd to an outsider. To me, those seem necessary. We also have Driving in Australia, Driving in France, Driving in New Zealand, even Driving in Los Angeles County though that has a merge tag. Personally, I'm inclined to doubt those are very useful, but clearly some people disagree strongly enough to have put a lot of work into them & that's fine.
In short, there are quite a few precedents for this sort of article. If someone wants to work on this one, just plunge forward. Pashley (talk) 21:42, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes it looks useful for someone thinking about visiting the UK and driving on the roads. The UK AA doesn't really cover it all that well http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/seasonal/index.html and it doesn't seem to be readily covered by the UK MoT. I tend to agree with Pashley, , just plunge forward-- Felix (talk) 16:17, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

SEO edits

edit

If you have a minute, compare this article to the section in the UK article it was spun off from on that other site. (You can do so by copy-pasting the text into Copyscape) I am sure, this tool will prove invaluable in weeding out stuff that was rightfully deemed badly written, outdated or otherwise unworthy of inclusion at the main UK article post migration. Of course this article will be longer than the corresponding section in the UK article (that's the point after all), but there is no need to keep wordings from three or more years ago, especially when they give us SEO punishments. Electric vehciles...

Nothing on provision of charging points in the article? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:33, 27 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

The banner

edit

looks pretty cool and I like the composition and colors of it :). Should it be added to the star-standard banners? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:48, 19 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Road Signs...

edit

I'm not sure the addition of signs which are broadly similar to their European Counterparts is useful, also some of the ones that shoukld be here like the UK equivlaent of a US Yield were removed. Can someone review and trim these back to the essential ones? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:40, 18 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Magic Roundabout

edit

I added a note about "Magic Roundabouts". As far as I am aware, there are two such roudnabouts - one in Swindon and one in Hemel Hempstead. Do they deserve their own article (possibly with additional notes about doubole roundabouts). Martinvl (talk) 18:11, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Martinvl: Thanks for the note, which I think is sufficient. We don't have articles about individual road features on Wikivoyage.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 22:50, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
