FTT? edit

I just read through most of this article and did some copy edits. I feel like with a little more editing, it could be an excellent Featured Travel Topic. What do you all think? What work remains to be done? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:47, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

The third image in the gallery is the only problem to me. @Wauteurz:, do you know how to fix that problem? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 06:07, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree that that's a problem. The caption for the rightmost image shows up on my screen as:

Dambalkhach

o Khachapuri

It should be "Dambalkhacho khachapuri". Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:03, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I've tried to increase the size of the images, but it doesn't seem to be working. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:37, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
This problem is caused by the method of implementation. <gallery>-elements ignore width (or any kind of size) amounts. Because the description contains words that are longer than the 'box' it is in allows for, the word is forcibly cut off to continue on the next available line. The only way I know to fix this, would be to switch to {{multiple image}}. I'll go ahead and do that, since it's not exactly great to look at as-is. I'll switch every gallery-element over to that, since it would otherwise create visual distinction between the galleries, and that's not exactly amazing either.

And it's done. I've set all images to have a width of 150 pixels, so they line up nicely. If that needs to be changed, open 'inspect element' in your browser (on desktop), and mouse over the image. This should tell you its size (width×height). The formula to calculate the width you should enter in the template is as follows: (desired height ÷ height in inspect element) × width in inspect element.
Say that an image is 200×133 when we mouse over it in inspect element and we want to make it 150 px tall, we'd fill this in as: (150 ÷ 133) × 200 = 226. It might need a little bit of fiddling, as rounding up and down doesn't always work out perfectly.

Hmm, on my screen the cheese and meat picture sets reach outside the screen to the right. Perhaps some photos need to be deleted.
When it comes to FTT, the original German article was featured as travel topic so everything important should be in the article and this could definitely be next year's featured cuisine article. --Ypsilon (talk) 20:04, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, the Chakhokhbili and Ojakhuri photos are too far to the right (a very small amount of the empty space in the Guda photo is, too, but I think we could either tolerate that or might be able to tweak it slightly). Should we separate those out and move them to the top of the "Eat" section or just delete them? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:51, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

"Eat" section edit

That title strikes me as funny, since this is a cuisine article. Could we substitute "Meals"? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:37, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to plunge forward and make the change. If anyone doesn't like it, please post here. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:33, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

edit

The current banner looked dark and unappealing to me so I made 3 more Tai123.123 (talk) 00:43, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion 0: Current banner

Suggestion 1: Khachapuri

Suggestion 2: More Khachapuri

Suggestion 3: Chashushuli and Bread
Banner 3 and 2 are my favourites and make me feel hungry for Georgian cuisine :-). Thank you for making these. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:49, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
2,3,1,0 for me Tai123.123 (talk) 01:20, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
2 is way too small unless there's a bigger version, 1 is blurry. I still like 0 best, with 3 as my 2nd place, as the dish on the left is relatively sharp and it shows a nice ensemble of dishes. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:54, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think your numbers are wrong, there is no banner 4 Tai123.123 (talk) 02:01, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
They're 1 number greater than the suggestion numbers, due to the filenames. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:46, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
So guessing it's 0, 3, 2 and 1? (based on what you said) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 22:51, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Edited. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:36, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Current Points (4 for first, 3 for second etc.)
0, 6.5
1, 4.5
2, 9.5
3, 9.5
If we can get a tie breaker vote I'll change it on the 30th when two weeks is over. Tai123.123 (talk) 02:58, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Tai123.123 As it's a tiebreaker, use number 3 (the last one) as two does not meet the minimum size requirements. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 05:42, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000 Do you want me to change it now or should I wait till the 30th when two weeks is over Tai123.123 (talk) 05:45, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'd say change it now. The discussion will still be open, so if anyone favours another banner, we may as well choose it. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 05:52, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Done! Tai123.123 (talk) 05:54, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Georgian cuisine edit

Swept in from the pub

In the article above, the image gallery in the Cheese section overshoots the limits of the conventional screen, it is not all too bad on PC (but the overshoot is still noticeable), but a little more problematic on a tablet. I didn't quite dare to dissolve the multiple-image gallery... what should be done? PragmaFisch (talk) 16:15, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

For me it works well (on desktop): I just don't see the extraneous images. That said, we try to avoid having too much images, and recommend against galleries. So, according to policy we should remove quite some images. On the other hand, it seems somebody has put thought in how to use images to present the foods, so one should probably raise the issue on the talk page and proceed with due respect. Taking it here was a good step. –LPfi (talk) 16:49, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't like the gallery in the "Cheese" section, particularly because of what it does to the text that's squashed to the right of it. But do we really think so many galleries are essential in that article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:40, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's using {{multiple image}}; if it used <gallery>, then it would wrap automatically.
My first thought was that this was a lot of images, but my second was that if I were walking around a market, I would actually benefit from knowing what to look for (from the visual appearance). I don't think I'd have guessed the 'string' cheese appearance, which is quite different from the string cheese in my grocery stores. Maybe we do need at least most of those? WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:42, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes. But let's at least use the template you mentioned. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:17, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Same here. But I agree with WAID that gallery should be used instead of {{multiple image}}. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:54, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
