New Golden Route edit

Hi there, thanks for making the New Golden Route article. I've upgraded the article from outline to usable, because I think it meets the criteria. You might want to read Wikivoyage:Itinerary status and some of the best itinerary articles we have such as Tourist Drive 33 or Quebec Route 389, both being quite detailed. If you need anything, you can always come to my talk page, especially for technical questions, but I'm open to all things. Cheers, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:29, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Naming edit

I've noticed you've renamed Gujo and Omihachiman. We typically write the names of articles in their English form without the accents for Japanese. In Wikivoyage:Naming conventions, it even lists Tokyo, not Tōkyō, at the top. Gujo and Omihachiman are almost always written in English without accents both in English guides and in the official Japanese guides, town sites, and tourism bureaus of these cities [1] [2] [3], [4] [5] [6] [7], so I'm moving the content back to their original pages. We generally avoid the accents unless there is no recognizable name in English. In most cases, Japanese cities should not have the accents. They should be written in the opening line, for pronunciation, for example: Tokyo starts out: "Tokyo (東京 Tōkyō)" with the accents in the parenthesis beside the Japanese for pronunciation reference. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 06:47, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry for that, can you make Gujō redirect to Gujo and ōmihachiman redirect to omihachiman
Thank you! Tai123.123 (talk) 17:05, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's okay, everyone makes mistakes. To create the redirect, create Gujō and add the text #REDIRECT [[Gujo]]. Do the same with Ōmihachiman and add the text #REDIRECT [[Omihachiman]]. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:26, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Tai123.123 (talk) 02:54, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
In future, for reference, to create a redirect, just enter #REDIRECT [[name of article]] and hit enter. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:47, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
thank you Tai123.123 (talk) 02:25, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Usable vs. Outline edit

Just an FYI, but you might want to have a quick look at Wikivoyage:City article status. Basically for usable, all it really needs is a get in, plus bits from see, do, eat, and sleep. Go next and get around isn't really needed, but it's well needed. Cheers, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 05:51, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Listing template fields and capitalization edit

Hi, Tai123.123, and thanks for your great work! There are a couple of things I'd like you to pay some attention to, though:

  • (1) Please never delete unused fields from Wikivoyage:Listings templates.
  • (2) Much less important, so only when you have a spare moment, but have a look at Wikivoyage:Capitalization, because you sometimes capitalize words that are not proper names.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:47, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, have you reviewed Awashima to see if it is guide ready Tai123.123 (talk) 16:33, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
No. Reading an article with a fine-toothed comb takes time. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:03, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I feel like deleting empty fields should make an article not a Guide. Please restore all deleted fields that are standard in WV:Listings templates. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:07, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
What fields did i delete? Tai123.123 (talk) 18:13, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It has all the field listed on the small city template Tai123.123 (talk) 18:14, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm talking about fields within each listing template. Not deleting empty listing fields is part of Wikivoyage style. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:32, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I don't where i deleted the fields so could you add them back Tai123.123 (talk) 18:55, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

[undent] Here's a listing template:

  • .

Look at it in edit mode and compare it to any of these. Your listings look different from that and lack many of those fields because you deleted them. I appreciate your work but don't feel like taking the time to fix all of them, as I have things to do in real life. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:39, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

thank you Tai123.123 (talk) 19:44, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:15, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Fixed all listings and upgraded status to guide due to approval by SHB2000, if after your eventual analysis of the article you fell it's unworthy of guide please revert it to Usable Tai123.123 (talk) 03:53, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

They're more active on the Dutch Wikivoyage than here, but the ping should get a response. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:58, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I will revert to usable if he can explain what he finds wrong with the phone numbers on the article as they are taken directly from the official website Tai123.123 (talk) 04:01, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Tai123.123. It's not actually that much of a big deal to change an article to a guide. If someone disagrees, as you said, they can always revert it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:56, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I have no plans to get Awashima to a star or to nominate for off the beaten path (even though it is off the beaten path), the next articles I plan to work on are Yaotsu, Toi and Inatori. Along with that I plan to divide the Kiso Valley like I mentioned on your talk page. Tai123.123 (talk) 06:28, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

A Japanese Barncompass for you! edit

The Japanese Barncompass
Should have given this to you a little earlier, but... thanks for all the work you've been putting into articles about Japan! I hope I can use these when I go to Japan soon.* --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 13:33, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000 Thank you, I think most articles I've worked on are too rural and off the beaten path for a first time visitor. I think my main goal will be to get Chubu to guide status and to get all articles in the region to usable, I may also districtify nagoya soon, though I'm working on the Kiso Valley now. Also where do you find the country specific Barncompasses as I didn't see them on the Barnscompass page Tai123.123 (talk) 17:22, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

*That all depends on then the pandemic ends

I did once spend weeks working on a town with 15 people around 500km away from civilization (Innamincka). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:05, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000 which one? Tai123.123 (talk) 23:26, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
It was Innamincka which the nearest civilization near the town is about the distance between Okayama to Tokyo. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:57, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Well that’s only 3 hours by Shinkansen (though I understand that the journey takes longer, also where do you find the country specific barn stars, Thanks Tai123.123 (talk) 02:28, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
You can find them at User:SHB2000/List of Barncompasses. Mostly incomplete though. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:25, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Importing from Wikitravel edit

I see you have used the edit summary "import from Wikitravel" in a couple edits. We try to avoid importing content from Wikitravel because we prefer creating our own content. It's also best to avoid this for legal reasons. Translating or summarizing content from Wikipedia is better, as both Wikivoyage and Wikipedia are WMF sites. Details regarding the sites can be found at Wikivoyage:Wikivoyage and Wikitravel. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:20, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@SelfieCity: I saw that and it said it was legal should I delete it? Tai123.123 (talk) 17:35, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have reverted the edit, which should be sufficient. That page was written several years ago, and since then the issue of importing from WT has rarely surfaced because the two sites have gone their separate ways. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:43, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SelfieCity, do you want to delete that edit using revision delete. Tai123.123 (talk) 17:45, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, I don't think it's necessary. @Ikan Kekek, LPfi: you guys have knowledge in this area. I think we leaned toward a consensus previously that revision delete was unnecessary. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:46, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SelfieCity, Ok I think i'd preferred if it was deleted but it's fine if it's not Tai123.123 (talk) 17:56, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
No need to revdel, IMO. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:40, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
ok Tai123.123 (talk) 21:46, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Finger slip? edit

About Special:Diff/4323129. Was that a finger slip? Rollbacks are only meant to be used against spam and vandalism. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 05:32, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I just used rollback there as it was the same as undoing a single edit, just a bit quicker to do. Should I have undid it instead though that would’ve had the same effect. I’m sorry for using the wrong tool and using rollback against a trusted editor. Tai123.123 (talk) 05:35, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah no probs now since that's sorted out now. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 06:11, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tip edit

Hi Tai123.123, just a tip regarding when you tag a page for speedy deletion, if there isn't any admin around, you can make a request at m:GSR and a global sysop (a user who has sysop privileges on around 90% of all WMF projects) will eventually delete it (within usually 30 minutes). Particularly helpful when there's no active admin around. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 22:06, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Tai123.123 (talk) 22:54, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

A very late answer to mapshapes edit

A very late answer to User talk:SHB2000/Archive 2021#Help with dynamic maps, but this is what I've learned with experimenting with these this week for creating mapshapes for New South Wales.

It seems to get mapshapes, you don't need to use geojson at all. But from what I've done in the last week, all you need is an account on OpenStreetMap, and then search for the place which you want to add the mapshape on, and under the "tags" section, you add the Wikidata id with the Q in it.

And to create an account on OSM, I think you can also use your Wikimedia login as well, albeit it not being connected to your SUL.

Hope that helps.

--SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:04, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok thank you! I’ll see if that works. Tai123.123 (talk) 15:20, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Admin? edit

Hi Tai123.123! For several months now you've been contributing information to this site, and most recently, you've been doing administrative roles as well. It seems that to fulfil this role, a few additional administrative tools could be helpful. As you're already a template editor, few major changes to your user interface would take place with these changes, except you'd get a few additional vandal-fighting and administrative tools. The nomination process takes two weeks and I think the community would strongly support your nomination. Thank you! For more information please see Wikivoyage:Administrators and Wikivoyage:User rights nominations. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 15:57, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@SelfieCity, Thank you for the support, I'd be willing to become an admin to better fight vandalism. Tai123.123 (talk) 18:50, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Tai123.123: Thank you. I have nominated at Wikivoyage:User rights nominations. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 19:33, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Graffiti wall edit

The IP is right. In fact, I asked them to experiment on the graffiti wall instead of other pages. I don't like the tone of their revert, but unless there was something inappropriate, we should let it alone – the bot will clean up soon. –LPfi (talk) 18:47, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@LPfi Sorry, I saw the bot reverted previously so I followed. I won't do it again. It was just a bunch of a squares. Tai123.123 (talk) 18:54, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
There were some letters too, but they didn't make sense to me. The bot resets (sic, it does not revert) the page regularly, regardless of content. If somebody reverts the bot, it means they are not yet finished experimenting and should be allowed to continue (except if it is blatant touting or such). –LPfi (talk) 19:00, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ok sorry. Tai123.123 (talk) 19:02, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

New Golden Route edit

Hi Tai123.123, hope you're doing well.

New Golden Route is scheduled to be featured in 19 days, which is not long from now, so I was going to crop some banners for it. However, the page isn't linked to a wikidata item and I wasn't sure what to crop. By any chance, are you able to crop the images? Banners should ideally be in a 3:1 ration, and I think that's about all required for a banner. Cheers, --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:00, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
