A tip edit

If you want any phrasebooks to look at for inspiration Category:Guide phrasebooks or Category:Star phrasebooks is a list of some of the best phrasebooks on this site. The Armenian phrasebook or the Russian phrasebook are pretty good phrasebook for a phrasebooks in a non-Latin script, while the Portuguese phrasebook is probably the best on this entire site with audio recordings (which can be done via Lingua Libre). But regardless, nice work on the Manipuri phrasebook. Looking good so far :) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:03, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@SHB2000: Thank you for the information. Besides, I am expecting Manipuri to be supported within these coming 2-3 years by Google Translate. Currently, Manipuri is under beta version test platform selected by Google Translate for the last 5 months since August, 2021. So, that's why I post this! :) Haoreima (talk) 09:11, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. I still don't understand why Google translate chooses to support Latin (which is a dead language) but not numerous languages that are well spoken in Asia and Africa, including Tibetan to my surprise (maybe I'm surprised because Tibet get's a lot of media attention worldwide). Illegible notation edit

I want you to know that the following kind of notation, which you've added throughout the Manipuri phrasebook, just shows little boxes with, for example, AB on top and CC on the bottom, then R8 on top and EB on the bottom, etc. - nothing but gibberish. I would ask you to please eliminate this kind of notation:

ꯌꯨ ꯌꯥꯎꯒꯗꯔꯥ

ꯐꯥꯟ ꯊꯥꯕꯤꯕꯔꯥ, etc.

Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:04, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ikan Kekek: that's because your browser does not have proper rendering support, causing it to have such issues. I get a similar issue on my old computer, but I don't get that on my new computer. Try seeing it with a different device. w:Help:Multilingual support (Indic) might help a little bit. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:09, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek: I feel very sorry that Meitei script (Manipuri script) isn't still supported by some computers in some parts of the world. It's history of proper regulations started from the year 2006. Before that everything for Manipuri language was to be written in Bengali script. Nowadays, writing system got changed to Meitei script only. So, 2006 is a very late timing in case of development compared to other ethnicities of the world. That's why there's still some parts of the world not able to see Meitei script. However, this issue is getting overcome year by year. Newer desktops and laptops are starting to add Meitei script. Regarding mobile phone, most already did so.
Please see these:

Please don't say "gibberish". We will try to do at our best to make sure everything is adaptable and comfortable to others in future. Even within a few years, Google Translate is to approve Manipuri language, that was what I and SHB2000 we're discussing a few hours back, here.
Thank you for informing me that! I feel elated to explain you the real fact. :)
Haoreima (talk) 12:52, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm saying how it looks. It looks like gibberish on my laptop. That's not an insult to the script; it's an accurate description. And I feel like we can't expect most readers to buy a new laptop or download special programs to read it. However, if that's what we're going to do, it's vitally important to: (a) mention in the introduction to the phrasebook that many computers and cell phones don't show the script by default and (b) post links to programs (hopefully free) that Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android users can access that will enable them to view the script. Because otherwise, we are not serving travellers well. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:08, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek: Yes sir! I agree with you. For that, to the best of my knowledge, Mozilla Firefox is one of the softwares which supports Meitei script for laptop and desktop computers. For mobile phones, the script is supported by most in the world. If we need to mention more softwares, I can give a list of softwares for typefaces. Regarding this, please either suggest me how to write in which portion of the article or please add those captions for me. :) Haoreima (talk) 05:09, 6 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm using the latest version of Firefox. Don't create captions; just add the links in a prose sentence in the introduction to the phrasebook. You can see the format for en.wikivoyage links at Wikivoyage:External links. If you have any questions after you've looked at that, just ask in a reply or in the Travellers' pub. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:27, 6 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Late reply. I think what's best to do is to add a {{disclaimerbox}} to the top of the page. This isn't just a problem with mni though, because currently for me, the second word of the Inuktitut phrasebook reads nothing but squares to me (and same with the mni right now). I'll leave the wording to you. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:14, 16 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Pagebanners not showing edit

I'm not sure what the issue is, but pagebanners are not showing in Kakching, Sirohi National Park or Keibul Lamjao National Park. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not on Keibul Lamjao National Park, either. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek: Sir! I don't know why does it happen like that! Because I am not handy at banners! Usually, SHB2000 fixes banner problems about that! :) 03:40, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's because the file doesn't exist on Commons ;). I'd usually do it, but I'm overseas now and can't access the CropTool. I'll make banners for them when I return home on 2022-01-12. For the time being, just put "Asia" in the first parameter. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:44, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you edit

  The India Barnstar
Thanks for your contributions to topics related to Manipur. Guides and topics related to North-east India are really lagging behind. Your hard work is seen and appreciated.

@2006nishan178713: Thanks for the barnstar! And I hope you will surely break your record again for your easternmost travel from Tezpur to Manipur in future! :-) Haoreima (talk) 15:03, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I really hope that. 2006nishan178713t@lk 15:22, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Manipuri food edit

Hi, Haoreima,

I would recommend listing places to eat in destination articles and not duplicating information about pan-Manipuri dishes, which should be in Manipur#Eat only. However, if there are local specialities someplace, mention those in the article for that place. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:08, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Ikan Kekek: Do you mean there should be hotels instead of dishes in the section "Eat"? I am little bit confused! Haoreima (talk) 08:13, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Restaurants and the like. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:48, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
If there's any article you might want to look at to see how the eat section is formatted, Paris/1st arrondissement (which is currently a star article) is a good example of what eat sections should contain in cities except for articles about India, the 12-hour clock should be used and you don't necessarily have to split them up into budget, mid-range etc., that's optional.
For park articles, from my experience, it's uncommon to find a restaurant or a café, and so if there's any restaurants/cafés within close proximity, just list that one, somewhat like how I listed it on Mungo National Park (I'm biased with that one because I wrote that myself). If there's none at all nearby, just say there's none. If there's also nothing to drink or buy, then it can be merged somewhat like I did in Pulu Keeling National Park or Hartz Mountains National Park. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:07, 12 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Order for cities edit

I wanted to let you know that in region articles (including articles about states), the capital, if any, is listed first, followed by all the other cities in alphabetical order. Please see Wikivoyage:Region article template#Cities. Thanks very much. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:00, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Ikan Kekek: Ok, I was reading Greece#Cities. It's not in the order. Well, you are right, we should edit it according to the alphabetical order. :) Haoreima (talk) 12:03, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the info. I'll look at the Greece article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:12, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
The Cities section is in perfect order, but "Other destinations" is not. I'll fix it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:13, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's because I put it in order just then. ;-) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 21:19, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Links to Wikipedia edit

Hi, Haoreima. Please have a look at Wikivoyage:Links to Wikipedia. We can't use inline links to Wikipedia on this site, with few exceptions. Please delete all the links to Simple English Wikipedia. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:40, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Ikan Kekek: Thanks for informing me! I wasn't aware of this too. Well, I am aware now. :-) Haoreima (talk) 11:42, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
We all understand you're a new user here. In a lot of ways, allowing unlimited links to Wikipedia could be helpful, but then this site would really become just a branch of Wikipedia, not really a travel guide, I suppose? Anyway, there's been no consensus in favor of a greater scope for links to Wikipedia than are currently allowable. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:55, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well, the French and Italian Wikivoyages use them and all I can say is it looks ugly. On top of that, they also link to Wikispecies in the flora and fauna sections and it makes it even uglier. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:59, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000: Lol! But true! Haoreima (talk) 12:00, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
The difference there though is that they also put the Wikipedia, Wikispecies, Wiktionary or Wikibooks icon right next to a link, which on top of it not working out will, it would also end up chewing up data for some traveller where connection is poor. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:03, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000: According to my assumptions, the reason why they did so is to increase the readerships through cross wiki or just want to show every readers that these and those facilities are available in their languages. And for English, it's not done so because English is international lingua franca. Everyone knows about English Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, etc. but the case is less known for those of other speech groups. Just my opinion! :-) Haoreima (talk) 12:09, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Interesting thoughts from both of you, thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:10, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Might be likely, but I'm assuming that the French and Italian Wikivoyages are adding those icons following the French and Italian Wikipedias. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:11, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Another reminder: we don't do inline links to Wikipedia like this. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:01, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek: So sorry for that! I have mended it! Haoreima (talk) 09:07, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
No problem and thanks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:10, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cuisine of Manipur edit

I was wondering if whether you could might be interested in South Asian cuisine. That article is not really specific to any region, but thought you may want to contribute to that article. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:10, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@SHB2000: That's great! Thanks for informing. I will do that! :-) Haoreima (talk) 04:12, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
There's a couple of other topic articles at Category:Topics in India, including Hill stations in India (which doesn't have any in Manipur listed, perhaps because no-one has added them to this date) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:16, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SHB2000: I added the only one that has its own article at Wikivoyage, to the page you showed me. Other hill stations don't have their articles here as of now. This w:List of tourist attractions in Manipur#Hill stations full article is one I created long time ago. Today, our talk reminded me my old days of pleasure at English Wikipedia, which I long for still today! :) :-) Haoreima (talk) 04:30, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

COVID-19 box on Manipur edit

Hi Haoreima, hope you're enjoying the new year. By any chance, would you be able to update the COVID-19 box on Manipur? I couldn't find anything on http://manipurhealthdirectorate.mn.gov.in/ suggesting that there are any COVID restrictions, but I wanted to double check with you. TIA, --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 22:50, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi SHB2000! I think the webpage has been modified by its designers. So, we can remove the website from the article. :-) --Haoreima (talk) 09:39, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Restrictions on Afghans, Chinese and Pakistanis visiting Manipur edit

Here is the legislation on that: [1]. They need to apply for special approval, which probably means they won't be allowed to visit without a compelling reason. The dog2 (talk) 17:09, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
