Talk:Hong Kong to Kunming overland

Latest comment: 6 years ago by Pashley in topic Guide? DotM?

I will be making this trip in the February holiday, so am building a framework now to add observations later. (WT-en) Pashley 21:05, 16 January 2007 (EST)

Merge?

edit

This is tagged for a merge to China, which strikes me as silly. The China article is already too long. On the other hand, it would be hard to merge it into a region article because it crosses more than one; it is mostly but not only in SW China.

Keep it? Merge it into Overland to Tibet? Pashley (talk) 16:01, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Instead of merging, maybe we should reverse the direction. Most non-Chinese travelers arrive in HK. So if it is HK to Kunming, then this article feeds nicely into Kunming tourist trail. Tigerleapgorge (talk) 02:11, 5 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reversing the direction has been discussed before at Wikivoyage_talk:Itineraries#New_Itineraries. I think it is a good idea but have never found the time & energy to do it. If you want to, I'd say plunge forward. Pashley (talk) 02:18, 5 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I am trying to change the title to "Hong Kong to Kunming Overland" can't figure out how. With the title as is it seems to make little sense to reverse the actual itinerary. Tigerleapgorge (talk) 07:16, 5 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I moved the page, leaving a redirect behind. Pashley (talk) 10:24, 5 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Longsheng?

edit

We currently have rather short sections for Guilin to Longsheng, Longsheng to Sanjiang, and Sanjiang to Congjiang. I'd merge the first two into one Guilin to Songjiang section because I do not think Longsheng needs more than a passing mention.

On the other hand, you could make a case either for merging all three or keeping things as they are. What do others think. Pashley (talk) 23:28, 11 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I agree after I made the split it indeeds seems too many and too short. My original intention was to mark Sanjiang as a place to spend 2 days in. Granted I have only been to Longsheng but never been to Sanjiang. The idea is that since most people day trip Longsheng, it would be better to keep on going and sleep in Sanjiang instead of heading back to Guilin. Let me know what you think. Guide? DotM?

edit

This article is currently rated Usable. If it were Guide, it might be a good candidate for Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates. I think it is close, but I'm reluctant to promote it myself since I wrote large parts of it.

Other opinions? @AndreCarrotflower:. Pashley (talk) 02:08, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'll take a closer look at this article later, but right off the bat, it needs at least one, preferably more photos. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 02:10, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
It is close, but I don't think that it ready yet. It should have a map (add markers for the main cities, and mapframe), the first paragraph could give some idea of the distance and a suggested duration (would I be rushing it to do this in one week?). Also I think that some updating is required - the w:Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge will impact the start of the route when in opens in July, are hotels still so cheap?. I originally wrote this about 10 years ago & mentioned the prices I saw then. I do not think they have been updated since, so quite likely they are now wrong. Pashley (talk) 10:24, 8 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
