Merge with Linyi?

edit

This article is currently a stub because it has no "IsPartOf." But it looks like it's really part of Linyi, so shouldn't it be merged and redirected to that article? Pinging User:Zhuo1221 and User:Pashley for your input on this. I'd also note the remarks and map in w:Linyi#Administration. The population of Linyi Prefecture is over 11 million, which might suggest that we could consider turning Linyi into a districted city on this site, if there's enough content for all the districts, but I think such considerations are a long way off and would require the city article to have much more content. My impulse is to move it to Linyi/Junan. Full districting can wait, but it looks like merging would be messy & it seems pointless if it would all need to be undone later. Pashley (talk) 21:59, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do you think there would be enough content to district the city? There are 10 administrative divisions shown on the map on Wikipedia. I think it's way premature to district this city on Wikivoyage and therefore disagree with you and support a merge/redirect for now. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:09, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree that it is much too soon to district, but see merging as pointless.
I'm inclined to think that this does not make much sense as a standalone article, but places like Mawei or Jimei that are districts in the Chinese administrative system do get articles. Pashley (talk) 22:28, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
In larger & more complicated cities some WV districts correspond with the administrative ones, but others do not. e.g. see Shanghai#Districts. Pashley (talk) 01:42, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
If it doesn't make much sense as a standalone article, why would a merge/redirect not be the thing to do? Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:30, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
My 2 cents is that it does not make sense to have a partially districtified city and would favour a merge. But I'm not familiar with this area and haven't heard of it until now, so... --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 03:37, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Pashley, I want you to note that Junan is covered in the Linyi guide, as it should be. Why do we want to duplicate or divide content irregularly between articles? I wish I could have your support, so we can do the merge/redirect. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:41, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've stated my opinion but there seems to be a consensus for the merge & I can accept that. Pashley (talk) 12:26, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, we now have quite a number of partially districtified prefecture-level cities on Wikivoyage. Perhaps we should start a new discussion thread on Talk:China to decide on a common approach to deal with them. STW932 (talk) 16:23, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
By all means! Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:44, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── There is enough content here and in Linyi that it no longer makes sense to merge them. Ground Zero (talk) 18:50, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

4 months later, are we proceeding with the merge or not? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 01:03, 3 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Another 4 months later, and it seems no-one is interested in proceeding with a merger. If there's no further comment in a week, I'll remove the tag. Ground Zero (talk) 12:06, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is Junan currently covered by the Linyi article? I'm still confused about the organizational/hierarchy issues discussed above. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:26, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Linyi says "Junan County, in the east of Linyi City, is covered in a separate article." I see no Junan listings in Linyi. Ground Zero (talk) 15:15, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK, then it's perfectly fine to leave the articles separate. But since Junan is not part of Linyi city, should it be breadcrumbed to Shandong instead of Linyi? I tend to think so. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:27, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't have have an opinion on that. Ground Zero (talk) 02:43, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
