Leh Nubra
editIs it possible to travel Nubra Valley & Pangong Lake by hiring motorcyles service?
- It is definitely possible to visit Nubrah and Pangong by motorcycles. but the roads are bad and dusty and it takes about 3-4 hours to reach Pangong or Nubrah. So don't risk it if you aren't a good rider.
However, going in a motor cycle gives you the freedom to stop anywhere you want for photographs.
leh in mid-April?

To Guide
editThis is the best article about anyplace in Jammu and Kashmir so far. It would be great to make it a Guide, as it would be a wonderful place to feature as an Off the beaten path. Here are my comments on Wikivoyage:India Expedition/Jammu and Kashmir:
A lot of work has been done on this article, and it's very good. It's close to Guide status, and I think that once the locations of the few "Sleep" listings that still have unidentified locations and all the other entries are added (such as with lat/long geo), we can make this a Guide and nominate it for an Off the Beaten Path feature on the front page.
I'd add that all the entries for hotels should be checked to make sure they're still in business, and prices mentioned throughout the article should be checked and updated as needed.
Is there anything else you notice that needs work? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:17, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Jesus in Leh?
editThere is a gap in biblical accounts, nothing about his life between ages 13 and 29 when he started preaching. This story claims he spent most of that time in a Buddhist monastery in Leh. Pashley (talk) 13:07, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- I've heard it said many times that Jesus did, or may have, spent time in India. However, this is the first time I've heard it suggested that he was in Leh, let alone at a Buddhist monastery. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:45, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- He was well travelled. Apparently a family friend brought him to Cornwall during that time as well w:Joseph_of_Arimathea --Andrewssi2 (talk) 00:06, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
Article badly needs work
editFor such a visited location the article needs work. many guesthouses have no price listed- and it seems at least to me that the prices across the article are also badly out of date.
there is no distinction between the local markets, as prices vary between them
also there is no note about supporting the local community- as opposed to the hoardes of rajistanis and punjabis who flood leh for half the year and take their money home leaving the locals without in the winter. I'm not sure how to word this without it sounding racist. "try to determine whether business people are year-round inhabitants of leh"
on a similar note does anyone know any way of verifying the douzens of "tibetan refugee" orginisations and markets? the products are imported, most of the workers are immigrants from pujab- I would be inclined to advise against shopping there on ethical reasons.
I desperately want to do more myself, but I am without internet or...like...any money for internet cafes.
