List of important cities
editHere is a list of cities that will probably be important to include in the article. I adapted it from the Old West footer template on WP, at w:Template:American frontier.

- I believe that, instead making a ginormous list of sites and cities in the article, we should strive to have a bulleted item for each state with some explanation in prose with in-line links to the individual sites. Something like:
- Texas — Though it was serious cattle-raising land, with some ranches bigger than whole states back east, Texas was distant from the earliest railroad lines, and the famous Chisolm Trail was used to drive cattle from as far south as San Antonio up toward the nearest railhead at Abilene, Kansas, with important stockyards at Fort Worth which have been nicely preserved for visitation. A large number of forts from the war for Texas independence and the Indian Wars dot the central and western portions of the state, from the famous Alamo in San Antonio to smaller forts at Fort Xyz and Fort Lmnop. Also, blablabla and the stuff about ablababla and the fuzzy pickle he found in his saddlebag and that other stuff about blobbyblobeddyblah in El Paso and the buffalo hunters in the Panhandle and yeehaw stuff.
- Doing it this way will allow us to keep the list down to 16 or so bulleted items, possibly grouped under 4-5 regional subheaders, but it will still send readers to all the right articles, and it will offer a more integrated overview of each area than just listing everything separately.

Listing names and dynamic map
editThe format used on most listings:
name=[[Astoria]], [[Oregon]]-->
creates broken links in the dynamic map: Astoria,_[[Oregon
Hm. Piping the link (even with identical text-to-be-shown) seems to work, where the destination is the first item in the name. What to do where you want some description before the to-be-linked-on-the-map item is still unclear. Perhaps one should just reword the listing name.
Mormons
editMormons have played an important role in the history of the West and there was an almost civil war between them and US military (or so I've read), yet we don't mention them at all. Any expert on Mormon history willing to cover that a bit? Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:38, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Little House on the Prairie
editWould the Little House on the Prairie locations be best described here, or in a separate article? /Yvwv (talk) 00:19, 2 January 2018 (UTC) http://littlehouseontheprairie.com/historic-locations-and-museum-sites/
