Hello! Thank you for your contributions to the Ruili article. Welcome to Wikivoyage. I hope that you'll keep sharing information with fellow travellers through this project.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines, style, and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you need help, post a question in the Arrivals lounge.

Many of your edits to the article including formatting errors. Please take a look at Wikivoyage:Manual of style, and some other articles to see how we format articles on Wikivoyage. In particular, try to use Wikivoyage's standard heading in articles.See Wv:sh Thanks again for being a part of Wikivoyage! Ground Zero (talk) 08:18, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also, I have explained some of my edits at Talk:Ruili. Ground Zero (talk) 08:19, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Pleased look at my edits in the page history to see the corrections I am making to your work, and avoid making the same mistakes. You are using the listing template incorrectly, and it is causing errors on the article. Ground Zero (talk) 10:08, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Jihaiyun: Thank you for your contributions to the Ruili article. In English Wikivoyage, it is incorrect to add "Ruili City, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province" in the address field of listing. This listing is in the Yangjiang article, so the reader already knows that it is in Ruili City, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Please correct your mistakes by removing this text. Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 02:01, 6 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jihaiyun, Hanyangprofessor2: I have reverted your last edits to this article because you are making the same errors. It is not the job of other edits to clean up after you. Ground Zero (talk) 21:26, 7 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
According to your suggestion, I have corrected the wrong content in Ruili's article. Thanks again for your advice. If you find any other errors in the article in the future, please discuss them with me further. thank you. Jihaiyun (talk) 14:32, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. But the listings still have "Ruili City" in the addresses. Because this is the Ruili City article, we don't include that information in . It is redundant. Please correct that. Ground Zero (talk) 14:47, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Jihaiyun Ping student editor in case they don't check the discussion here without a ping (I wouldn't). Hanyangprofessor2 (talk) 00:40, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Removing other contributors' comments

edit

This is not permitted in Wikivoyage. Normally I would give a warning before blocking an editor for doing this. Because you are just trying to cover up the evidence that you have been asked to correct your errors and you aren't willing to do so, I will block you. If this causes you to get a bad grade in your course, that is because of your actions. You are the first of your class to be blocked from editing Wikivoyage. @Hanyangprofessor2: Ground Zero (talk) 14:07, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I see that you have started to correct your mistakes, so I have removed the block, for now. Ground Zero (talk) 14:10, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Because I don't think there's a need to keep the mistakes that have been corrected. What do you think? Jihaiyun (talk) 14:19, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
In Wikivoyage, it is not permitted to remove other people's comments -- see Wikivoyage:Using talk pages, unless they violate community rules (like personal attacks, or offensive comments). Wikivoyage is a community project, and you must respect the community's rules. Ground Zero (talk) 14:26, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Got it. I'll be reversing my operation. Jihaiyun (talk) 14:40, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
You should never remove posts by others, unless they give you permission to do it first. You are allowed to strike out, remove or change your own comments sometimes, see wikipedia:WP:REFACTOR Hanyangprofessor2 (talk) 01:55, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I understand, Professor. I have withdrawn the delete comment action. Jihaiyun (talk) 00:30, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Section headers, capitalization and other problems

edit

There are some problems with these edits. Please read Wikivoyage:Region article template, Wikivoyage:Article skeleton templates/Sections#Get in and Wikivoyage:Capitalization. And why are you trying to make a "districts" section in a region article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:10, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm still working on it step by step. Because I refer to star articles found that there are regions of this section. I created a province with a lot of municipalities underneath it so I wondered if I needed to add regions. What do you think? Jihaiyun (talk) 06:16, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You can propose further regional divisions by putting a proposal on Talk:Western Yunnan, but expect discussion to take a while.
Unfortunately, I reverted your most recent edits, because you did things like put detailed templated listings in the article that should be in city articles, instead; revert the corrections I made to your section header format; and add red-linked cities to the "Cities" section. Feel free to restore any content and useful edits that were lost in my reversion, but be a little careful. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:43, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Note this, in Wikivoyage:Region article template#See, for example: This is for an overview of the types of attractions as well as the principal attractions in the region. Don't give full details about each attraction (use prose, not a listing template); you should have that in the article for the city where the attraction is. If there isn't anything to say about the region's sights that isn't already covered by the descriptions in the Regions/Cities/Other destinations sections, or in the Understand section, then this section can be omitted. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:45, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you find any errors in the article, you can directly remove the parts you believe are unnecessary, but please don't undo all of my edits at once. Do you think everything you undid was entirely useless? Do you believe this article shouldn't include detailed sections on See, Do, Buy, Eat, and Drink? Thank you.@Ikan Kekek Jihaiyun (talk) 09:43, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have modified it according to your suggestion. Please let me know if there is any need to change. Thank you Jihaiyun (talk) 10:52, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, got it. Thank you Jihaiyun (talk) 12:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You should not have templated listings of specific restaurants in a region article, no. You should have bulleted listings of regional specialties, yes. Do you get the distinction? It's too much work for me to delete large swaths of text and keep others. I provided you with a link to my edit, so that you can easily copy and paste parts of your edits that you'd like to restore.
I linked Wikivoyage:Capitalization and Wikivoyage:Region article template above, yet you still have subsection headings like "By Air." The correct subheading is "By plane." Etc. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:54, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, got it. Change it right away.Thank you for your specific reminder Jihaiyun (talk) 17:06, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Don't just change the one example I gave you. You reverted the corrections I made to "Talk" and "History." Read the links I gave you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:35, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, got it. Jihaiyun (talk) 17:41, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Numbered lists

edit

In these edits, you changed many of the bullets points (●) to a numbered list (1, 2, 3,...). We do not do that in Wikivoyage. Please change it back. Ground Zero (talk) 12:10, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok, got it. Thank you Jihaiyun (talk) 12:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Corrections to Western Yunnan

edit
  1. We do not use boldface for the descriptions of the photographs.
  2. Section headers should follow the same rules of capitalization as anordinary sentence: capitalize the first word in the title, and any proper names. Everything else should be lower case. We write "Get around", not "Get Around". See Wikivoyage:Section headers.

Please make these changes. Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 20:37, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for your detailed advice. I will correct it immediately. Thank you again Jihaiyun (talk) 20:47, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

You did not understand me. Here are two examples:

  • Right: "Get around"
  • Wrong: "Get Around"
  • Right: "Tools for finding addresses"
  • Wrong: "Tools for Finding Addresses"

And so on. Ground Zero (talk) 22:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I see. Thank you for your patient guidance. I'll correct it immediately. Jihaiyun (talk) 22:30, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You have been adding cities to Western Yunnan that don't belong there. Dali belongs to Central Yunnan, Lijiang and Shangrila belong to Northwestern Yunnan. If you are unhappy with this arrangement, you should start a discussion on Talk:Yunnan. STW932 (talk) 04:26, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
"Based on your suggestion, I made some modifications. However, after searching the internet and Chinese online sources, I found that 'western Yunnan' indeed includes these regions. The term 'western Yunnan' generally refers to the vast areas west of Kunming in Yunnan. Broadly speaking, it encompasses cities and prefectures such as Lijiang, Chuxiong, Dali, Baoshan, Dehong, Nujiang, Diqing, and Lincang. So, I still have some doubts. What do you think?"@STW932 Jihaiyun (talk) 07:19, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
On Wikivoyage, we make our own decisions as to how a region is defined. We don't necessarily copy what others do. Are you saying that our Central Yunnan and Northwestern Yunnan articles should both be merged with the Western Yunnan article? If so, please start a discussion on Talk:Yunnan. STW932 (talk) 07:34, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I see. thank you! Jihaiyun (talk) 07:36, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mangshi

edit

This article is developing well. Two more style points for you:

  1. In China articles, we always use the 24-hour clock (09:00-18:00), not the 12-hour clock (9AM-5PM). See the box at the top of Talk:China.
  2. We write prices as "¥1,000", not "CNY1,000" or "1,000 RMB".

Regards, Ground Zero (talk) 01:15, 25 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Capitalize proper names, please!

edit

These edits to capitalization are wrong. For example, Dali Airport is a proper name. If you need a reference, read Wikivoyage:Capitalization, but how to capitalize proper names is really a question of standard English rules, not a Wikivoyage style question.

Do feel free to ask questions about what to capitalize if you're unsure. I was a writing tutor for years and worked with lots and lots of students for whom English was a second or third language, so I can definitely help you with any questions about English capitalization, etc. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:54, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Jihaiyun, Hanyangprofessor2: In creating this article, it looks like you ignored almost all of the advice given to you by other contributors. Did you copy this text from somewhere else? Ground Zero (talk) 11:57, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
