Suggested new alternative banner

I created a new alternative banner for this article (I initially created it first and foremost so that it would be used at the top of the parallel article in the Hebrew edition of Wikivoyage, yet I later decided to also suggest that the English Wikivoyage community would consider using it here as well). So, which banner do you prefer having at the top of this article? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 05:08, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I prefer the composition of the existing image, even though it shows no land. The landscape in the new banner doesn't seem distinctive enough for me to favor it on that basis, but I could be wrong and might be convinced otherwise. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:48, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
There is something special about the three colour stripes - keep. Danapit (talk) 14:40, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
I think the original is pretty terrible. It just doesn't look like anything or say anything about the destination. When I first saw the two, I didn't actually read the title and know what the article was about, and assumed it was going to be Indian Ocean or something, not an actual landmass. The new one isn't ideal, but is an improvement over the former. James Atalk 09:50, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Prefer the original. The proposed one could be any tropical island. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 10:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
And the original can be any body of water. ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 23:26, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

7 years late, but prefer current – the new one doesn't give a feeling of remoteness. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:47, 25 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Possible territorial changes?

edit

UN voted in favor of returning Chagos islands to Mauritius. Is the UK going to simply ignore this request or do you think this is an inevitable thing? If it's the latter, it could open up the island for non-military visitors. Marathonian (talk) 22:43, 7 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

A UN vote (General Assembly, I assume) is very different from a World Court decision. I can't imagine that would be enough for an imminent change. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:46, 7 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I would think it really should go under Asia, but I'm new here.

Oh, here is the original site: Islands‎ (3 C, 4 P) —The preceding comment was added by 2600:6c54:7c00:f1b:5dd1:bfe:359a:915f (talkcontribs)

Welcome! And please sign your edits on talk pages (only) with 4 tildes (~) at the end. Before concluding that it should go under Asia, have a look at the parent article, Islands of the Indian Ocean. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:29, 23 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, there are some destination articles categorised under Subantarctic islands. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:18, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the current categorization, as I don't believe islands far from a landmass should be categorized as being part of that landmass. We make exceptions for islands close to their respective continents, for example categorizing Sri Lanka within Asia and United Kingdom and Ireland within Europe. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 14:59, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
A few years ago, we made the East African Islands to include several islands with Africa. /Yvwv (talk) 16:15, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure I agree with the current categorization. Islands of the Indian Ocean is an extra-region. BIOT probably does belong in Asia. However, there are some islands in the middle of the Atlantic, at any rate, that don't belong in any continental hierarchy. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:38, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Then there's also Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha which is breadcrumbed under Islands of the Atlantic Ocean. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:59, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Like I said. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:14, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
