Money matters

edit

Could someone briefly discuss how and where to obtain pesos? If their value is not basically stable, perhaps the entry should recommend finding current rates on-line. Thanks, Hennejohn (talk) 23:13, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

The information was available, but hidden in the Stay safe section. I moved it up to Buy and gave it its own heading. ϒpsilon (talk) 18:08, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Cruise ship visits

edit

Could someone also discuss (e.g., in "Get in") where the ships dock, any facilities, and availability of public transport, e.g., to the old city. Thanks again, Hennejohn (talk) 23:13, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I added some, based on a quick googling. ϒpsilon (talk) 18:08, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

DotM and obligatory enhancements to this article

edit

Cartagena is a DotM candidate. However, as others and myself pointed out on the nomination discussion, there are still quite a few things to fix in the article;

  • Missing coordinates   Done
  • Information with old dates ("as of 2008" etc.) - not sure
  • Many sections are actually pretty damn short. FIVE things to see?   Done
  • Eat should be divided into Budget/Mid-range/Splurge   Done
  • Things that User:Hennejohn mentioned above have to be added   Done
  • Anything else?

If this article is judged according to the quality control of the Rolex wristwatch factory same standards as Banff, for instance, there's sure a whole lot to do before the article can go on the Main Page. ϒpsilon (talk) 18:24, 8 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

OK, I've now moved the stuff in this article to my user space and will try to fix some of the problems above while translating stuff from de and pt. I would very kindly ask others not to make any (major) edits to the article until next week or so, in that way I'll have it much easier moving it back to the article when done. Fixed some of the issues. ϒpsilon (talk) 18:06, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Use of $ sign

edit

I know most people won't assume $ means USD, but isn't it kind of confusing still? Shouldn't we replace it with COP every time it appears? Hobbitschuster (talk) 22:13, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yes, unless there's a good reason to refer to US dollars, in which case, "USD" should be used. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:31, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
No it's not confusing. In Latin America the 'peso sign' is the same as the 'dollar sign' or '$' so it's quicker and second nature for Colombian users (and others who are familiar with the area and what's available there) to write '$' to imply the price of something. As Ikan Kekek wrote in the above if it's meant to be USD than the contributor should write in 'USD$' to differentiate. Colombian pesos are relatively stable and consistent so no need to refer back to US dollars. User talk: Anyone150) 16:47, 11 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
We have a policy on this at WV:$. It says:
"Colombia: COP$100 — not 100 pesos, nor COP 100 (although "$" is commonly used to denote pesos, Wikivoyage uses this notation for clarity because prices in tourist areas are sometimes listed in US$)"
If there is an argument for changing this, it should be made at Talk:Colombia. Ground Zero (talk) 19:21, 11 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Drugs are illegal"

edit

See this edit. Of course it's untrue and therefore an unhelpful statement that "drugs are illegal in Colombia". Undoubtedly, quite a lot of drugs are legal and available at your local pharmacy. So I think it's essential to edit this. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:40, 25 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Move to Cartagena

edit

Isn't the Colombian city the more famous one? Or is it just me being slightly biased since I know more about Colombia than Spain? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 06:59, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
