Talk:Esino Lario
By foot
editWhat is this list of numbers, letters, and places in the By foot section? It appears to be a (misplaced) list of bus lines with stops listed, or something of the kind. Even if that is the case, we usually don't give long lists of bus lines/stops, so this should probably be eliminated. Texugo (talk) 13:26, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- hi Texugo. sorry, i am still writing the introduction to it. actually those are the names of trails, it is probably the most useful information to have when you go around a mountain place and it is quite complicated to get because it is only in specialised maps or mentions sporadically online by users. I think they are not so many and it is actually a pretty cool information to provide. I can add text to descrive them better --Iopensa (talk) 16:37, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Iopensa. I see, well, that is better than bus routes, definitely, but a long list of short lists of repeated items is not the most efficient or easy-to-grasp way of presenting information on a criss-crossing network of trails. Any chance you'd be willing to take the time to get them drawn in on the map so we can reduce the listiness/redundancy of the text section? Texugo (talk) 18:43, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- ok. let me work some more on the article to try to make it a little less for "adventurous people" (i really like the evacuation style of the articles - it is really nice) and see how i can get back to this list for a map. I am actually making the article because I am promoting the Wikimania bid 2016 on Esino Lario. Rather than adding info to meta I though having tourist information here was much better and more useful for all (this also explains why in the hotels i write the number of rooms and beds, hope it is an information which can be included). thanks for the help, --Iopensa (talk) 20:55, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Deutsche Bank
editJust wanted to leave thishere for Wikimania: German customers of Deutsche Bank will be able to withdraw cash for free at the Deutsche Bank Italia ATM in Esino Lario. Customers of certain other banks that have a cooperation with Deutsche Bank in Germany will be charged a fee when using their standard debit card. Also, there is no service for German Deutsche Bank customers at the bank counter. Maybe this piece of information is less interesting for Wikivoyage but more so for the Wikmania wiki. --Gnom (talk) 15:28, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
Improve for Wikimania?
editWikimania will be held here from June 21st to 28th. It would be good to improve this article in order to promote Wikivoyage better to Wikimedia foundation members. One suggestion is to clean up the walking routes, since they are not particularly informative as they stand. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:25, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
- Are you thinking of the #By foot section that is discussed above?
- Also, if you're going to Wikimania, then it might be interesting to see whether a Wikivoyage edit-a-thon might be possible. Nearly every person present will have some information about traveling, after all. WhatamIdoing (talk) 06:21, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, the 'By Foot' section, although there are also a few listings that don't have any description as well. Since this could be a showcase article I think worth getting up to scratch.
- BTW, I will unfortunately not be attending. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 09:41, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- Also it seems many dual purpose restaurants and hotels are listed twice, invariably making a 'Plus' sign on the map. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 09:46, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
By foot walking trails
editThere were a large number of listings which appear to be hiking trails but most lack any context, just a list of names. If I were to go to Esino Lario tomorrow then I would actually know what to do with these listings.
Can we select a few of them to go into the 'Do' section instead, and provide a bit more context? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 20:34, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Unhelpful though well-intentioned articles
editEveryone, please look at Talk:Exploring cookery and tapestry, Talk:Exploring esino in the last century and Wikivoyage:What is an article.
It's the consensus of long-time Wikivoyage users who have participated in the above talk pages that information about individual attractions should not be separated from this article in order to create "articles" that are really just extended individual listings. The itineraries listed and linked in "Do/Excursions" are OK (though they might be developed more) because they give step-by-step explanations of how to walk from Point A to Point Z, via Point B, Point C, etc. Exploring cookery and tapestry, Exploring esino in the last century and Exploring... an archive are not OK as Wikivoyage articles, as they aren't genuine itineraries, as the term is understood on this site (see Wikivoyage:Itineraries) nor genuine travel topics, but souped-up individual listings.
Relevant (that is, non-encyclopedic) information about listings that are in the Esino Lario article should be added to this article. It's fine to create itineraries with different stops that encompass more than one or several attractions. However, it's not really helpful to visitors to farm out lots of information about individual sights to other articles.
I would request that you please not link to these articles, which in our opinion have to be merged to Esino Lario and redirected, and please don't create more of them, but include relevant information in the Esino article itself. Repeated attempts to link to these articles are extremely likely to be reverted just as soon as they are inserted, creating an edit war that won't help anyone.
If you would like to argue that these articles actually conform to Wikivoyage guidelines, contrary to my points above, and also are more helpful to the traveler than providing sufficient information about the attractions on this page, please explain how below. Otherwise, your cooperation in not posting links to them again, but rather, discussing the logistics of what to move here and how would be greatly appreciated.

- Shall we just semi-protect this article for a while? That shouldn't impact any serious Wikipedia user from making updates for the upcoming Wikimania --Andrewssi2 (talk) 21:02, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
- That was a good idea, but the semi-protection ran out, and the IP user who has been edit warring edit warred again, triggering a first (1-day) block. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:11, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
Things to translate from it:Esino Lario
editI put a translation template in the article but then thought better of it. However, there's no question that the Italian-language article on this town is more informative.
Sections to look at for anyone who's enterprising and wants to try translating (and in some cases, summarizing) content from the Italian-language article include:
it:Esino Lario#Eventi e feste. There are various festivals that might be interesting to list and describe. The Italian-language article also shows a picture of the celebration of the festive day of Sant'Antonio Abate. This would fit into the "Events" section of "Do" in this article, but it could easily be renamed "Events and festivals".
it:Esino Lario#Cosa fare. The list of "Passeggiate" could be good to list, although while the times and levels of difficulty that are given are welcome, descriptions of the scenery, landmarks or viewpoints along the way would be a welcome addition. This would of course go in "Do" ("Cosa fare" means "What to do", and if you didn't know that, you can't translate from Italian to English. :-)
I'm not so sure about the "Escursioni" subsection, but it might be worth looking over, especially if you're a mountain-climber. If this gets translated and inserted, it, too, should go in "Do".
it:Esino Lario#Sci. A skiing listing would be welcome. Scratch that. I see a skiing listing in this article.
it:Esino Lario#Nei dintorni is quite a lot more extensive and specific than the "Go next" section of this article.
A lot of this translation work would help bridge some of the gap between this article continuing to be merely Usable and becoming a Guide. Whether an article identical to it:Esino Lario would be considered a Guide here, I doubt, because it has links to the same 3 articles discussed in the section above as "unhelpful", and there are some listings with blank descriptions, too, but it's quite a lot more content-laden than this article is. Esino Lario on home page?
edit- Swept in from the pub
Hello. See my comment here? Thank you :) --Elitre (talk) 20:30, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. The quick answer to your question is No, but I also replied with links at Talk:Main Page. The usual place to discuss possible Destination of the Month/Off the Beaten Path nominations is at Wikivoyage talk:Destination of the month candidates, but in any case, Usable articles are not eligible for a feature. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:09, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
- With Wikimania about to start it is far to short notice to bring Esino Lario up to guide standard and feature it on the main page. However Wikimania 2017 is in Montreal in August 2017. Maybe we should consider improving either Montreal or Montreal/Downtown with a view to one of these being DOTM in August next year. AlasdairW (talk) 20:29, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
Kindergarten listing
editShould it be deleted now, since presumably, the tapestries are no longer on display there? Or are they? Does anyone know? Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:55, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
