Talk:Game of Thrones tourism
Links?
editShould we link to the HBO site? To either the Wikia Game of Thrones Wiki or Wiki of Ice & Fire?
I'd say yes to all three, but it seemed worth asking first. Pashley (talk) 08:58, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
- The wikis give links to several tour operators [1] [2] [3]. Should these be linked here or in the Belfast article? I'd prefer to just provide a link to the list on Wikia. Pashley (talk) 00:41, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
How should we deal with Spoilers?
editThis is possibly a general question also with regards to fiction tourism more broadly (though there seems to be a cultural perception that older works can be spoiled at will). Wikipedia does not believe in spoilers and thus has full plot summaries for all works of fiction it deems relevant. But should we have the same approach here? Hobbitschuster (talk) 19:47, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- I suppose you are asking about things like this paragraph, which I recently added:
- Material from several locations is sometimes used even in a single complex scene. For example, most of the battle that destroyed Jamie Lannister's loot train and much of his army in Season 7 was filmed in Spain, but the dragon and some of the other effects were added with computer graphics and Dani riding the dragon was filmed in front of a green screen in the Belfast studio.
- We could cut that to:
- ... For example, most of the loot train battle in Season 7 was filmed in Spain, but ...
- I wrote it the other way because I thought it was more dramatic & interesting, but if we want to avoid spoilers we should make that cut. I'd have no strong objection.

- Done. Pashley (talk) 20:24, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- If I wanted to avoid spoilers for my favorite TV show, surely I would just avoid this page completely? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 20:51, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
- Many places on the internet have spoilers announced in a "don't read on if you haven't seen x yet" fashion. Even Wikipedia does so in a sense, having parts of its articles explicitly designated for summarizing the plot and others usually relatively free of that. List from another travel site
edit23 real-life settings you can visit from Game of Thrones. Our article currently has most but not all of these, plus some they do not cover. Pashley (talk) 04:23, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- I've just added a few from their list here. Pashley (talk) 05:20, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Guide?
editI just kicked the tag on this from Outline to Usable, which seemed quite overdue.
To me it looks like it is already at Guide. It should be tagged as such & nominated for featured travel topic. Other opinions? Pashley (talk) 02:30, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- Support promoting this to 'Guide', per Wikivoyage:Travel topic status, mostly thanks to your efforts.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 11:14, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
- Support. This article is tighter and better-looking than The Wire Tour and spoiler-free, too. Big thumbs-up. Ibaman (talk) 11:36, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
- Promoted. Pashley (talk) 11:42, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
British copyright rules?
editThe article currently has a lovely photo of one of the "Glass of Thrones" stained glass panels in Belfast. Can we keep it?
Looking at the rules as explained on Commons, it appears to me these panels would legally be "graphic works", so publishing a photo would violate copyright rules. We should delete it here & propose deletion on Commons.
Other opinions? Pashley (talk) 08:18, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- I've moved it here. Pashley (talk) 10:21, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- It's in Belfast, which I guess was a typo on your part.
- Thanks. Corrected. Pashley (talk) 11:33, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- It's in Belfast, which I guess was a typo on your part.
- The uploader said they were the copyright holder; I assume they meant of the photograph (in which case this would be copyvio per a bizarre loophole in our freedom of panorama laws that excludes graphic works), but it's possible they're claiming copyright of the glasswork.--ThunderingTyphoons! Slight nitpick
editIt's a minimal issue here, which I'd fix if I was smarter about wiki code, but as things go, I can only report: the use of listings is problematic as the field "name" comes with an automatic period which messes up the punctuation. Markers don't do that, and would be preferable here. However, listings are clearly superior, they can hold more info, and I won't mess with them. Ibaman (talk) 11:49, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
- Done I took the liberty of optimizing the sorting of listings and markers, for the benefit of punctuation and tidiness. Ibaman (talk) 12:18, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

- I'm not sure why this is an important picture, but if you think it is, it would probably have to be uploaded locally. But why, would be my question. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:17, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- I guess they are central characters in the series. Fans of the series probably can judge better if the picture is important or not, but it's also used in the article's FTT nomination. So if this one will be deleted, we need to pick another picture for the FTT nomination. --Ypsilon (talk) 13:30, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, Jon Snow is an important character - possibly the most important character by the end - so I hope the image is not deleted. The one vote currently there opposes deletion on the grounds that it's fan art, rather than copyright infringement. No idea whether that's a valid argument or not, and ultimately it's hardly an article-ruining deletion in the same way as if we weren't allowed any pictures of Disney property on Commons.--ThunderingTyphoons! Museum in Split
editSplit, Croatia was a filming location & now has GoT Museum. This likely needs mention here & a listing in the Split article.
A quick search did not turn up either a web link for the museum itself (lots on other travel sites, though) or co-ordinates, & I haven't time for a more careful search just now. Volunteers? Pashley (talk) 12:44, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
