Yes. Thanks for catching that. Ground Zero (talk) 10:12, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia T-shirt edit

Hi, Ground Zero. You do such a lot of thorough MOSing edits. Have you ever been awarded a free Wikipedia t-shirt? Let me know. If you haven't, I'll nominate you. It's a nice shirt, and would be a tangible token of appreciation for all your great work!

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:11, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. That's very kind of you. I don't really want a t-shirt, but I very much appreciate the sentiment. Best regards to you. Ground Zero (talk) 18:44, 6 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
And to you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:23, 7 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yep, definitely. I'd question whether it was even appropriate in 2006 -- it looks like a random rant, but now it's ancient history. Ground Zero (talk) 16:20, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

WP:UAA equivalent? edit

For future reference what's the equivalent to Wikipedia:User names for admin attention locally? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:19, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wikivoyage:Vandalism in progress - is that what you are looking for? I'm not sure if a lot of admins are watching that. You could use the pub, too. Thanks for your vigilance. Ground Zero (talk) 10:24, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I always see posts at Wikivoyage:Vandalism in progress when I'm patrolling, because they appear in recent changes. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:39, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
That's good to know. Ground Zero (talk) 14:54, 25 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think that if you don't, you should probably put it on your watch list. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:17, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've checked: it's on my watchlist. Ground Zero (talk) 01:30, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Oh yes. Definitely touting, and so much to clean up that reverting makes sense. Ground Zero (talk) 16:40, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Second Opinion on User:Roadstoves1? edit

This read like an ad. but I'd like a second opinion. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:34, 2 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

His will be a third opinion. I'd delete it immediately and post the "tout" template on User talk:Roadstoves1 right away. I'm sure Ground Zero will do the same thing, but for the hell of it, I'll wait, so he can see the link you're asking about. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:38, 2 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely. Ground Zero (talk) 12:56, 2 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

A thank you edit

  The Editor's Barnstar
Thanks for all the work you've done splitting Japan into multiple topics and pruning content from the main article. It's been a bunch of work, but the results speak for themselves: the shortened article has become a much better overview of the country, pared down to just the essentials, while the details are split out for readers who want them. Thank you for taking the lead in advocating for this reorganization and for all the work you did to make it happen! --Bigpeteb (talk) 20:10, 6 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

kilometres/kilometers edit

You recently replaced "km" with "kilometers" in the Metro Cebu article. I think we should use "km" exclusively site-wide because it is shorter & avoids nonsense controversies about metre vs meter. I therefore want to revert your edit, but am asking first. Pashley (talk) 05:28, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Pashley: standard writing style in English is to spell out the unit of measure except where it us used with a numeric quantity. Wikivoyage could choose to follow a different style, but it hasn't. Wikivoyage:Measurements says: "Always abbreviate metric units in listings," but is otherwise silent, so I would go with standard English writing style. This may be worth discussing at Wikivoyage talk:Measurements to get tge views of other contributors and propose a change to the style guide. I think you have to think about the phrases "a few meters" or "a few liters", which would be unclear if written as "a few m" or "a few L". Thanks for asking. Regards, Ground Zero (talk) 12:53, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
The quibbling over spelling shouldn't happen if everyone just refers to the WV:Spelling conventions when deciding which "metre" to use. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 13:43, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

U.S. spelling in Laos? edit

How does that work? I would have guessed that the historical influence of French might cause them to use British spellings like centre and honour that are closer to the French spellings. How much American influence is there in Laos? Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:04, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

WV:spelling says "If the destination has no history of using English and no clear preference for the variety to use, we prefer US English spelling." On that basis, Laos would fit into the US spelling category, unless it doesn't. Do you know that they use UK spelling? Or do they use international/tourist English, which is usually American. I haven't been to Laos yet, so I don't know, but I'm planning to be there in March, so I can report back. Ground Zero (talk) 14:52, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Um, how many in Laos even speak English to such a level that we can distinguish American from British? I say we go with what policy says and use American.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 15:32, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have no idea. I haven't been to Laos. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:23, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
