JRHorse
Hello JRHorse and welcome to Wikivoyage!
At the risk of being accused of "trying to teach my Grandmother to suck eggs" (grin):
Wikivoyage is a project with the aim to create a free, up-to-date, and reliable world-wide travel guide, and it is based on an association with the same name: Wikivoyage e.V.
To get a clearer idea about Wikivoyage and how it works, have a look at the community policies and the FAQ section. It may also be useful to read the Copyleft page where you can find more information about our license. The part of Wikivoyage called Wikivoyage General helps Wikivoyagers to organize and discuss language independent topics. If you want to find more information related to potential language versions, have a look at the language version discussions page. "How to start a new language version" will help you plunge forward.
If you understand their languages, it might be interesting to have a look at the German or the Italian language versions of Wikivoyage, as those are the long established language versions and there you will have an opportunity to discover what the project and its articles look like. The launch of the English Language version is imminent. The images that are used within our articles are at Wikivoyage Shared.
Our policies, guidelines and Manual of style may be a bit different to other Wiki's you've worked on.
If you need more information or you have questions that have not been answered in the help pages, please do not hesitate to write a post in the Travellers' Pub or to ask me directly.
Contribution merge
editAssuming you're the same user as User:(WT-en) JRHorse and can provide some verification (see [1] for an example of how that can be done) then you may want to visit the Wikivoyage:User account migration page so that you can consolidate all of your past contributions under this one account. -- Ryan • (talk) • 04:17, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Since we can't undo a merge current policy is that there needs to be some unequivocal proof that the two accounts are owned by the same person, so could you login to WT and just edit your user page there to state that you edit under this account name on WMF wikis, or something similar? After that's done I can do the contribution merge here. Thanks! -- Ryan • (talk) • 05:06, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Done :) JRHorse (talk) 05:08, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Perfect, thanks! Since you already have a talk page here the old talk page was not moved over - let me know if you'd like it resurrected into an archive in your user space, otherwise everything should be done, including the moving of several sandbox pages that were in your userspace. -- Ryan • (talk) • 05:24, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
JR Tobu Nikko Kinugawa Free Pass
editHi, I translate English pages about japanese cities into French and I have seen that you have removed this pass from the page about Nikko. Did you do it because it does not exist anymore? Also, it would be useful for me (and others I guess) if you add a summary for your contributions when removing information. -- Fabimaru (talk) 10:01, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- Correct, this pass no longer exists JRHorse (talk) 12:46, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I will remove it from the french page - Fabimaru (talk) 20:39, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Page banners
editHi! I have seen you pretty banners, well done. You might have overlooked there is a rule for the banner width:height ratio of 7:1. For other details see Banner Expedition. Danapit (talk) 14:05, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll take a look into revising the current banners if I can figure it out, and will keep this in mind for future banners. JRHorse (talk) 13:32, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Rail travel in Japan
editHi! From your username and your edits I gather, that you are knowledgeable about rail travel in Japan. We have now spun of the "by train" section from the Japan article and would like to only give a brief overview in the main article with details going into that article. Do you think, you can help cutting down on the details in the main article and/or expanding the specialized article? Best wishes Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:00, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up! I'll do my best. JRHorse (talk) 02:23, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:14, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- I did an update, let me know if that works at all :) JRHorse (talk) 13:21, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- Did you want me to truncate the bus section too? JRHorse (talk) 13:59, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- I did raise the issue at Wikivoyage:requested articles and I think it can do no harm to spin it off as well Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:32, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:14, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
Japanese gardens
editI note from your history that you've edited a lot of article related to destinations in Japan. It would be appreciated if you feel it would be within your area of interest, if you could make a contribution to the Japan section of the article on Botanical tourism. Japanese-style gardens are notably different from Western ones, and it would be nice to have some examples and explanations alongside the more obvious tourist sites ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:22, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Sure, if I have some time I could add a few of them, at the very least Japan's "three best gardens." JRHorse (talk) 20:25, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

An award for you!
editThe Wikivoyage Barncompass | |
This Barncompass is offered in gratitude for your brilliant work updating COVID boxes around the world for nearly two years. Keeping track of restrictions as they come and go, picking out the details that are relevant to travellers and adding them promptly to articles can't be easy, but is invaluable. Thank you!--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 23:49, 8 January 2022 (UTC) |
- Thanks so much, this was totally not necessary :) I'm happy to help, but of course many thanks to those editors that also keep an eye on the ever-changing situation. JRHorse (talk) 03:10, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
Safety alerts?
editHi JRHorse, I saw that someone wanted to remove your safety alert on Mexico. Just wondering how long you intend for that to stay there. The person who removed it has a point that an incident might not indicate an ongoing risk and that at some point, it becomes counter productive. So how long do you think is "long enough"? 3 months? 6 months? I hope y'all don't get into an edit war over that, but my understanding is that these kinds of alerts should be discussed on the topic's Discussion page. Best regards! Mrkstvns (talk) 00:47, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, I think as long as there are travel advisories or warnings in place from other countries, that the warning should stay. I'll bring it up on discussion page and see what others think. JRHorse (talk) 00:58, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
