Welcome

Thanks for your contributions to the Paris article. Hello, ParisYank! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.. To be clear:
  • In articles about France, we use the 24-hour clock like the French do. Travellers will see 23:00 in France, not 11pm, so that is a what we use.
  • We don't need to tell someone that something in the Paris article is in Paris, France -- that's obvious, and we don't include postal codes.
  • We use €9, not 9€.
  • Big cities like Paris are broken up into neighbourhood articles, and listings for individual museums, hotels, restaurants, etc., are put in the neighbourhood articles, not in the city article.
If you have any questions, just ask. Ground Zero (talk) 21:36, 29 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your comments. I believe I have the Foundation Cartier-Bresson corrected. There is a lot to learn. I have more questions, I will try the Arrivals, etc. ParisYank (talk) 08:25, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot for updating some dead links in the Nice article. When you do that, please remember to delete the "dead link" template. Thanks!

All the best,

OK. I thought it was best to leave them but it is cleaner without. There are still a few dead links and I will take care of them as time permits. I am still learning.

It's confusing to call something a dead link when it's not.
By the way, you can put colons at the beginning of each line of text on a talk page to indent a reply. It's a little funny that that works, but it makes things easier to read in a thread. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:25, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the tips. Question: I see suggestions that after a dead link is resolved, one should add the date resolved http://www.example.com [formerly dead link] (and perhaps a "access-date=" as per Wikipedia).... This changes the template to "formerly dead link". If I should remove the template then what is the purpose of adding a resolution date to the template? Is it useful to add a "access-date=" tag? I can see that dead link management is a challenge. Thanks ParisYank (talk) 10:00, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps I'm wrong in thinking that we should just delete the template? Maybe someone else has an opinion about this. Your example.com link didn't show me anything, though. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:30, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I agree with just removing the deadline template after it's been resolved. We don't keep historical information like restaurants or hotels that have closed, so I see no reason to clutter articles with information like "this used to be a deadline but it isn't now". —The preceding comment was added by Ground Zero (talkcontribs) 11:40, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Information in listings

edit

You just added a listing for Language International in the Nice article. Thanks, but when you add listings, please don't delete template fields you left blank, and moreover, if that organization doesn't have a local address, it can't be listed, so if you could please list their local address and phone number (and any other useful information you have, such as rates, which would go in the "price" tab, and methods or scope, which would be described in "content"), please add that, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:00, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comments. Don't give up on me. I appreciate your feedback. I will not delete fields in the template. I now see the Listings template button. Language Intl does not seem to have a local Nice address. Makes sense to only list local addresses. I will remove Lang Intl entry and look for conversations meetings. BTW, I would like to break Learning into two parts, second being 'Arts and Crafts'. Do two or more sections make sense? ParisYank (talk) 15:05, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sure, create subsection headings at will wherever they're helpful. And no-one's giving up on you! All of us know there's a learning curve for new users on this site because all of us were new users once. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:30, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely. Adding content is the most important thing. You can learn about formatting as you go along -- just watch how others correct your mistakes, and you'll pick it up quickly. We're glad to have your contributions. Ground Zero (talk) 16:58, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
